ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PR and Media Relations
• Work closely with Campaigns & Communications Manager to outreach to and maintain relationships with critical media, develop media lists and identify media contacts for proactive media outreach
• Build GFW’s media profile in online and offline media, with a focus on engaging media outlets that will reach and engage new audiences
• Develops media partnerships with critical media outlets and ensures placement of high quality copy and content
• Monitor news, online trends, peer organizations, and international events relevant to women’s human rights, philanthropy, and GFW’s programmatic priorities
• Write and place articles, quotes, op-eds and blog posts for GFW and senior GFW spokespeople 
Social Media 
• Manage and implement Global Fund’s social media presence, producing engaging, interactive, posts on social media platforms, including, but not limited to: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
• Develop, execute and measure creative social media campaigns and initiatives with the Campaigns & Communications Manager as part of advocacy campaigns, online fundraising, online media projects, and GFW initiatives
• Monitor and evaluate engagement, impact, and social accounts’ performance on a routine and campaign-specific basis
• Ensure that social media presence is aligned with general Advocacy Team and GFW goals, strategies, create awareness and expand online constituency
• Promote GFW brand online through creative campaigns; monitor GFW mentions and brand consistency across platforms
• Identify promotional partners and social media influencers, and build relationships to develop GFW advocates, especially to promote and engage with advocacy campaigns and creative projects
• Collaborate with peer organizations, news outlets, and influencers on creative digital engagement campaigns, such as Twitter chats, promoting online advocacy opportunities, Google Hangouts, and more
• Manage and elevate CEO social media profile and online presence
• Develop strategy and train staff to expand team and individual social media use, understanding, and consult on how to integrate social media in their operational and programmatic strategies and tactics
• Provide regular reporting to Advocacy Team on digital engagement, online advocacy, social media trends, online media coverage, presence, share of voice, etc. 
Other
• Participate in cross-functional work-teams, as appropriate
• Write copy for reports, documents, email newsletters, publications and proposals as needed

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: The PR & Social Media Coordinator reports to the Campaigns & Communications Manager, and works in close collaboration with all members of Advocacy Team, and has collaborative relationships with the Programs and Development teams.
External: The PR & Social Media Coordinator primarily represents the Global Fund for Women to the public via social media and media relations, as well as through external relationships with vendors, peer organizations, partners, and online donors. S/he may also present Global Fund strategy and thought leadership at conferences and convenings.
START DATE AND COMPENSATION
The projected start date for this position will be May 2015. The PR & Social Media Coordinator is a full time, exempt position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Required
• Experience with media relations and PR; high affinity for and interest in news, especially breaking international news
• Deep familiarity with the social media space: experience managing Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts; and familiarity with YouTube, Pinterest and Google+
• Strong written communication skills for various campaigns, platforms and audiences, with the ability to synthesize information quickly and communicate complex topics to a general audience
• Excellent media monitoring, time management, and organizational skills
• Knowledge of news and digital trends and tactics, with the ability to mobilize audience participation and engagement
• Ability to measure and evaluate media coverage and digital and social media engagement

Preferred

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• At least 2 years of media relations, PR, social media, and communications experience preferably in an agency, with a demonstrated track record of achievement
• Demonstrated experience of pitching and securing significant media coverage, ideally for campaigns or social causes
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
• Established network of media contacts from the online/media communities

The volunteer's role

Based in Jamaica but working collaboratively with the other five (5) Caribbean Region ‘start-up volunteers’ based in both Jamaica and Guyana, this placement will support the development of the new 2015-2020 Caribbean Regional Program focusing on Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) in the Caribbean.
The scope of work for the Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist would involve:
1. Identifying regional partner organizations for GESI or building relationships where they already exist;
2. Identifying regional program strategies/interventions specific to GESI;
3. Collection of baseline data to support GESI outcomes at the regional level, contribute to developing the overall Cuso-Caribbean monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework;
4. Contribute to the development of a 5-year implementation plan for the Caribbean program;
5. Provide guidance to the other five (5) Caribbean Region 'start-up volunteers' on inclusion of gender and social issues in the Inclusive Sustainable Economic Growth (ISEG) program development and to the overall monitoring and evaluation for the Caribbean Region.
More specifically, the volunteer will:
-Review previous gender research done by Cuso International in the Caribbean Region, conduct desk and field research into interventions across the region and provide analysis/recommendations on most suitable initiatives for Cuso support.
-Review existing Cuso GESI partner lists and identify partner organizations suitable for Cuso to achieve outcomes under GESI and conduct partnership development sessions with specific GESI partners together with Cuso Caribbean country program office representatives to sign partnership agreements.
-Carry out baseline data collection for GESI, and work with the monitoring & evaluation volunteer (one of the five other Caribbean 'start-up volunteers') to support the development of the Caribbean Logic Model (LM) and Performance Measurement Framework (PMF).
-Make recommendations for the development of a Caribbean strategic plan.
-Support Caribbean country program offices (Jamaica and Guyana) and the five (5) other 'start-up volunteers' in the inclusion of gender and social issues in partnerships and programs being developed and provide technical advice on monitoring & evaluation for gender and social inclusion.

Essential Academic Qualifications:

-Degree in Development Studies, Gender, Social Sciences, Business or related field.

Essential Professional Background/Competencies:

-Minimum 3 years’ experience in research and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, organizational development, project planning and management, monitoring and evaluation;
-Experience in the thematic area of gender and social inclusion;
-Experience leading or working in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams;
-Experience using participatory approaches;
-Excellent report writing and analytical skills;
-Experience in writing strategy papers/guidelines;

The Strategic Programs Manager is an exceptional, dynamic, self-driven, team player with a unique hybrid of activism and leadership qualities. Supported by a values oriented team, s/he has experience at senior management level, knowledge of and commitment to feminist principles and values and women’s human rights issues, and a sophisticated ability to forging mutually reinforcing partnerships with relevant women’s rights CSO partners, academia, media, private sector, UN & AU counterparts and with bilateral and non-traditional funders and actors in order to stimulate action in the mobilization of visibility and resources to advance gender equality and women’s rights.
S/he has experience in resource mobilisation and financial management, proven management of a diverse and virtually connected staff complement, bilingual in French and English with excellent communication skills. Respect for minority diversity and a collaborative working style are essential. S/he must be willing to undertake frequent travel regionally and internationally. Management Responsibility
  • Provide strategic oversight, technical and program management to ensure programs delivery, high quality outputs, with accuracy and consistency.

The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (www.ciat.cgiar.org) works to reduce hunger and poverty, and improve human nutrition in the tropics through research aimed at increasing the ecoefficiency of agriculture. CIAT is a member of the CGIAR Consortium (www.cgiar.org), a global research partnership working many partners for a food secure future.
The Center’s research focuses on increasing productivity of key crops (cassava, common bean, rice, and tropical forages); reversing soil and land degradation; and using information to foster better decisions about issues such as climate change and environmental management. Headquartered near Cali, Colombia, CIAT has regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya, and Hanoi, Vietnam, with staff posted in other developing countries as well.
Soils are dynamic, diverse and function to provide the necessary ecosystem services to sustain life and civilization. Soils act as a medium for plant growth, storage of terrestrial water, act a source or sink for organic carbon and function a crucial role in nutrient cycling for plant growth. Unfortunately, our soil and land resources have been exploited unsustainably.
It is estimated that one quarter of the earth’s land is now degraded, and 24 billion tons of soil are lost to erosion every year CIAT’s Soil Research Area has a long history of providing data and information to restore degraded soils and lands with benefit to smallholder production systems in the tropics. Managing soil resources is crucial for the future of communities in the tropical regions of the world. Tropical soils occupy about a third of the earth’s terrestrial surface, host the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet and support about three-fourths of the world’s population. In an era of uncertain climate variability, maintaining the health of tropical soils and landscapes is necessary for providing food while maintain a healthy ecosystem.
This year, during the International Year of Soil, there is growing momentum for large-scale efforts to restore degraded lands, as policy makers face growing land scarcity and growing populations that need food, energy, and sustainable livelihoods. CIAT Soils is seeking a senior scientist to lead multidisciplinary research required to restore and maintain soils and landscapes, supporting nations to achieve often ambitious goals to restore their land.
The Position
This is a new position that will serve as a focal person for research on land restoration. Success will require research across disciplines and especially across scales to address questions such as “How can we maximize benefits with investment in land restoration?” “What are the best practices and where should they be implemented?” “Whose livelihoods are at stake during restoration initiatives, and how can we protect them?” and “How can we ensure accountability with monitoring and assessment?” The scientist will take a key position in the Soils Research Area where there will be significant scope to design and guide research. S/he will work with scientists across the institute and will engage directly with partners from landscape to national levels. The selected candidate will be part of a growing CIAT-Soils team, and primarily associated with the CGIAR Research Program Water, Land and Ecosystems. Linkages with other CGIAR Research Programs (CRPs) and regional organizations will be encouraged. The position will be based at CIAT Headquarters in Palmira, Colombia.
Responsibilities 
  • Carry out research activities to support successful implementation of large-scale land restoration initiatives; to include field research and synthesis of knowledge across scales in landscapes 
  • Incorporate knowledge from soil science, agronomy and economics perspectives into land use and ecosystem services planning contexts; to include building scenarios and tradeoff analysis 
  • Conduct research on soil process through field research and landscape models to determine potential impacts of management strategies that alter soil quality and have feedbacks in agroecosystems 
  • Collaborate with the team of CIAT-Soils, and with all relevant local and national stakeholders and investors, and in coordination with other CIAT/CGIAR teams 
  • Manage (timely, reliable, and valid) data compilation, analysis and synthesis, and prepare scientific papers suitable for publication in refereed journals and book chapters 
  • Support communication and publication efforts for scaling of activities and results and engage farmers, institutions, policy-makers and the general public to generate impact 
  • Mentor and supervise more junior staff and students to ensure timely completion of tasks 
  • Contribute to developing the Soils Research Area through new fundraising and partnership activitie
Requirements
  • PhD in Soil Science, Soil Biogeochemistry, Pedology, or other related fields 
  • Good knowledge of land restoration narratives and issues in the region and globally, especially with respect to management of degraded soils 
  • Proven ability to raise funds for research activities 
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English and functional Spanish, and ability to communicate to a variety of audiences, including policy makers
  • Demonstrated ability to publish high quality articles in international, peer-reviewed journals, and experience with open access data archiving Good interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively in a highly dynamic, transdisciplinary and multi-cultural team 
  • Experience in use of RS?GIS, landscape or ecosystem services models and knowledge-based inference mapping tools
Terms of Employment 
The position is internationally recruited and will be based at CIAT Headquarters in Palmira, Colombia and reporting directly to the Soils Research Area Director. The initial contract will be for up to two (2) years, subject to a probation period of six (6) months, and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources. The position involves travel to field sites in Latin and Central America, (up to 4 months per year).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Designs and oversees the implementation of program activities while ensuring that approaches are in line with best practices in CR internationally and can be adapted to local realities in remote parts of the country.
  • Serves as the technical expert on CR, including acting as a primary trainer for program beneficiaries, responding to inquiries and concerns from a network of community mediators, and adapting standard modules to local contexts.

  • Monitors and keeps Resident Director and other NDI staff informed of political, social and economic events in country that could impact the reconciliation process and/or the program.
  • Serves as NDI representative at CR-related local conferences and meetings and at other events as assigned when the Resident Director is unavailable.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, preferably in conflict resolution or related subject; graduate degree desired.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years relevant work experience in conflict resolution or related substantive experience.  Additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a one-for-one basis.
  • Living or working experience in post-conflict countries in Sub-Saharan Africa required; current or recent Mali experience preferred. 
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • French fluency required; English fluency preferred.
  • Exceptional competency and experience in conflict resolution at a community level.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with all levels of staff, program partners and beneficiaries with a wide range of backgrounds, U.S. and foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, funders, and policy makers.
  • Superior oral communications skills to effectively present information, respond to questions and negotiate.
  • Experience in training on conflict resolution strategies for multi-ethnic, tense environments.

  • Exceptional analytical skills for interpreting complex program and political issues and to think innovatively and introduce new concepts.

  • Experienced management and leadership skills in order to lead, inspire and motivate staff.

Reporting to the Director of Programs, within the Programing department, this position will support several ongoing and recently approved projects, which may include projects focused on child, early and forced marriage in Somalia; maternal, newborn and child health in Afghanistan; and youth livelihoods in Ethiopia. Responsibilities for any new projects will include ensuring gender mainstreaming throughout the project baselines and results based management frameworks, developing and supporting gender strategies, and facilitating gender capacity building for field teams via training and/or tool development. Ongoing responsibilities will include technical support, both remotely and via travel to work with field teams across thematic and regional contexts. Additionally, the post-holder will support the lead Technical Advisor on Gender as required, with duties including but not limited to supporting the design of new programs as well as the ongoing development of gender tools, research, and trainings.
Accountabilities
  • Provide quality technical support to the Toronto Head Office (HO) and Country Office (CO) staff and partners, including in Pakistan, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Mali, with a particular focus on the development, implementation and evaluation of gender sensitive and transformative activities to strengthen quality results and shared learning.
  • Develop and sustain gender-sensitive monitoring and evaluation (M&E), analysis, and learning systems and practices to capture and report on project gender deliverables, working in close collaboration with M&E teams.
  • Identify technical assistance needs re: gender of HO and CO staff and develop/adapt training resources as appropriate; deliver gender training and technical assistance to CO and project partners in such areas as gender and child rights, mainstreaming gender in the program cycle, and/or gender and specific technical areas including (i.e.) gender based violence, child marriage, education and/or health. Capacity building support may be delivered remotely or via travel to field offices.
  • Design/adapt gender tools for the CO and project partners to fulfil all project requirements.
  • Provide timely, complete and quality project narrative and financial reports and other required documentation, which integrates strong gender analysis, in compliance with Save the Children Canada and donor policies/regulations.
  • Liaise with DFATD officers, other donors, program staff of other agencies and members of the Save the Children International as appropriate
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in gender studies, international development or other related field with emphasis on gender
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in international development programming, with a focus on gender; at least 2 years of field experience
  • Experience developing practical tools and trainings, as well as facilitating learning of these resources
  • Knowledge and understanding of gender sensitive qualitative and quantitative research/evaluation methodologies and strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge and practical experience of working with DFATD’s Gender Equality Policy and results based management systems
