SCO is looking for a well-qualified Child Care Worker.
MINIMUM RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide a safe, clean and caring living environment for program residents.
  • Prepare meals according to weekly meal planner.
  • Participate in activity programming including individual and group activities, sports, games, trips, enrichment activities, etc.
  • Enforce the program's daily routine by accurately completing reports, checklists & daily point sheets.
  • Attention to and support of medical issues, student educational/vocational needs, case work, and clinical appoints.
  • Appropriately confront negative behavior whenever it occurs.
  • Maintain professional, positive and encouraging relationships with all residents, family members, and agency staff.
  • All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of HS Diploma or GED required.
  • This position requires successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training, which includes a written test and demonstration of the competency to perform physical restraints, as specified by the program and regulatory body. Additionally, staff must successfully complete all required TCI refreshers in order to maintain continued employment.
  • Prior exposure to working with an adolescent population desired.
  • Experience in child welfare is a plus.
  • Must be able to provide excellent references.

MRNY seeks a dynamic mission-driven experienced professional staff to supervise the health insurance enrollment work and provide health insurance enrollment assistance to individuals and small businesses through New York State's Health Benefit Exchange. MRNY is hiring for a Full time Lead Enrollment Specialist to be based out of the Queens office with occasional travel to Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Long Island.
THE ORGANIZATION
Make the Road New York builds the power of Latino and working class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services. Make the Road operates neighborhood-based community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson Heights, Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island; and Brentwood, Long Island. With a membership of more than 10,000 low-income New Yorkers, Make the Road tackles the critical issues facing our community: workplace justice, tenants' rights, immigrant civil rights, language-access, LGBTQ justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform.
MRNY is a multi-service organization. Our Education Department offers ESOL, Spanish-language literacy, and computer literacy, and in-school and after-school youth programs. Our Community Organizing Projects help New Yorkers to implement strategies to combat shared problems, and develop leadership and the capacity for civic participation. And our Department of Legal & Support Services provides direct legal representation, case management, and facilitated enrollment into public health insurance programs, training, and strategic support for members and organizing campaigns. Our attorneys and advocates specialize in labor and employment law, public benefits, disability benefits, housing law, healthcare and health insurance access, immigration, public education, domestic violence, and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) civil rights issues.
Legal and Support Services at Make the Road NEW YORK:
The Department of Legal and Support Services at Make the Road New York works to strengthen Make the Road's organizing work by (1) helping to envision and implement leverage strategies (including strategic litigation) that help win our organizing campaigns; (2) providing technical legal support for policy work; and (3) providing legal and support services to draw in new members and help meet the immediate needs of MRNY's active members.
CURRENT OPENING
  • Supervise the enrollment specialists in MRNY's other 3 offices (Brooklyn, Staten Island and Long Island)
  • Lead the grant management of this project (including ensuring that we are meeting our baselines and submitting all required reports)
  • Communicate with funders and submit all required reports on a timely basis
  • Advise consumers on eligibility for premium subsidies and public health insurance programs, like Medicaid and Child Health Plus
  • Enroll consumers into public and/or private health coverage in the New York Health Benefit Exchange
  • Help consumers choose an appropriate qualified health plan
  • Educate consumers on their benefits and responsibilities under the Affordable Care Act
  • Make sure all applications are accurately completed and submitted on time, adhering to submission deadlines
  • Maintain thorough case records of services provided, advice and/or referrals
  • Schedule and maintain appointments with potentially eligible consumers
  • Meet productivity and quality performance targets
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings
  • Conduct community outreach to potential enrollees
  • Work with other MRNY staff to envision and implement ways to support and mobilize MRNY members around health-related issues.
  • Work with health team to identify health issues of concern and develop strategy/carry out initiatives to solve systemic problems in the health system
REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience: A minimum of two year experience providing assistance to consumers and/or advocates on health insurance and health care access issues
  • Experience conducting outreach to recruit eligible participants in large numbers
  • Case management experience
  • Fully Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree or equivalent experience in public health, public administration or a related field
  • Experience managing different projects (monthly reporting, etc.)
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience providing workshops/ community presentations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • High level of accountability and initiative; needs to be a self-starter and eager to do team work to support the organization as a whole
  • Ability to work under pressure during deadlines
  • Ability to work in more than one work site
  • Flexible work schedule, some evenings or weekends required
  • Strong computer skills (web-based database, word processing, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be willing and able to work in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic work environment

SALARY & BENEFITS
Starting salary is based on a scale set by a democratically-elected personnel committee and will depend on factors such as experience and education. MRNY offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days and paid maternity / paternity leave.
