The A.O. Movement Collective, a Brooklyn-based performance company, is in need of a publicist!

We're looking for representation for our current project, a multi-output creation spanning the next two years. Our ideal candidate would be familiar with a wide range of communities: feminist, queer, digital, sustainable business, gaming, sci-fi, and beyond, and would be excited to work ravenously and creatively to promote our current genre-bending multimedia-performance project. Contacts in dance, performance art, and digital art communities a plus. Ability to work passionately for a group you believe in and explore new models with us an even bigger one.

DESCRIPTION

Toward the end of the 20th century, the Guerrilla Girls, an anonymous collective of women artists who take the names of dead women artists and wear gorilla masks to shield their public identities, sought out new frontiers in their fight for truth, justice and the feminist way. Guerrilla Girls BroadBand, "the Broads," use their wit, website and interactive multi-media events to combat sexism, racism and social injustice, focusing attention on such taboo subjects as workplace discrimination, armed forces recruitment tactics in schools, and abortion access for young women.

MAP ABORTION: An interactive, online map with multiple layers of information including historical context and first-person accounts exploring the relationship between access to abortion and the political and social struggles around reproductive justice in the United States. The visual theme will evoke a user-activated game appealing especially to young women.

Meetings of the collective are held in a central location in Brooklyn, NY. Interns must be able to correspond regularly through email, ideally be web and social media-savvy, require minimal micro-managing and maintain a journal for research results. We will work with your school/department to develop academic credit requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Ability to conduct online research;

• Ability to understand state-by-state legislation;

• Knowledge of reproductive justice issues;

• Independent worker with a strong sense of humor;

• Ability to collaborate in teams;

• Knowledge of abortion access issues nationally ideal.

End date: August 31, 2013
