JOB SUMMARY
The Development Associate provides administrative support to the Vice President of Development, as well as some support to the Development team relating to donor stewardship. The Development Associate is part of the Development team and reports to the VP of Development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Direct Administrative Support to VP of Development
  • Scheduling and Planning: This position is responsible for maintaining the VP of Development's calendar. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: handling travel arrangements, scheduling phone calls and in-person meetings, and collaborating in planning for staff meetings, special events, retreats, and conferences.
  • Communications: This position facilitates communication from the VP of Development. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: screening incoming calls, mail, and faxes, responding when necessary; attending various meetings, preparing agendas, summarizing notes, preparing and distributing minutes as needed; drafting and proofing correspondence.
  • Budget: This position helps the VP of Development manage expense reports, track financial/budget reports for the VP and, on an as-needed basis, compile updated expense information for the Finance team.
  • Data/Information Management: This position maintains records of donor correspondence and other related documentation to support the work of the Vice President. Tasks include but are not limited to: updating donor database as needed to track essential information from VP's contact with donors.
  • Clerical Support: This position will provide clerical support to the VP of Development, tracking ongoing projects and processes, developing workflow systems to increase efficiency, and handling any ad hoc projects.
Support to Development Team
  • Teamwork: Develop strong working relationships with staff in all areas of the organization. Actively participate in planning and meeting goals as an integral team member. Participate in cross-functional work-teams as appropriate. Assist with special projects as needed to support the Development team and the Global Fund for Women as a whole.
  • Donor stewardship: Support team-related projects such as semiannual impact report mailings and sends out donor acknowledgment and thank-you letters
  • Event Support: Assist Dev team with donor events including report and list generation, creation of invitations, RSVP process, event logistics, post-event follow up, including mailings of thank you letters and other event related tasks
  • Donor Research: Prepares Donor Briefs
  • Information Management: Provides gift entry and acknowledgment support at year-end, as needed
  • Miscellaneous: Follow the Global Fund policies and procedures. Carry out job responsibilities in a manner that reflects concern for personal health and safety and that of co-workers
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Internal Relationships
This position reports directly to the Vice President of Development. In addition to daily working relationships with the VP, Primary Contact Managers, and all staff, the Development Associate will also have periodic contact with Board members.
External Relationships
As a representative of the Global Fund for Women, the Development Associate will have periodic contact with donors, institutional partners, vendors, consultants, and community leaders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
  • Strong organizational skills

  • High degree of skill with Macintosh computers, using Word, Excel, Outlook, and Salesforce.

Preferred:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3-5 years of administrative assistant experience, in a Macintosh environment, preferably in a non-profit
  • Experience working in a diverse and team oriented environment

The projected start date for this position will be January 2015. The Development Associate is a full time, non-exempt position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The Global Fund for Women is an international grant making foundation that supports groups working to advance the human rights of women and girls. We work in partnership with groups addressing issues that include but are not limited to: Building Peace & Ending Gender-Based Violence; Advancing Health and Sexual & Reproductive Rights; Expanding Civic & Political Participation; Ensuring Economic & Environmental Justice; Increasing Access to Education; and Fostering Social Change Philanthropy. Since 1988, the Global Fund has granted over $100 million to more than 4,400 women's groups in 174 countries.

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Officer, Learning, Evaluation, & Impact works closely with the Director of Learning, Evaluation, & Impact to advance the Global Fund for Women's (GFW) understanding of its impact, to promote ongoing learning and response, and to support efforts to communicate results externally. This position supports the development and implementation of an organization-wide learning, evaluation, and impact framework for the Global Fund including designing data collection plans and tools, analyzing and producing findings, assisting grantee partners to strengthen their evaluation capacity and sharing findings with Global Fund staff, grantees, advisors and other key audiences. The Program Officer, Learning, Evaluation, & Impact also assists in designing and implementing evaluations of specific portfolios of grantees and participates in cross-team projects to provide research and evaluation support.

LOCATION

This position will be located in either San Francisco or New York City. Candidates must be eligible to work legally in the US and willing to relocate.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Development and implementation of an organization-wide LEI framework
  • Assist in developing and implementing an LEI framework for the Global Fund for Women that includes detailed theories of change for the key program focus areas, priority learning and evaluation questions, indicators for progress and outcomes and data collection plans and tools
  • Work with Program, Grants Operation, and Information Management teams to refine application and reporting forms and processes
  • Compile and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from various sources
  • Prepare reports for internal and external audiences, including using data visualization to illustrate findings
  • Provide support to grantees in their efforts to evaluate their work
Evaluations of specific portfolios
  • Assist in the design and implementation of evaluation plans for specific portfolios of grantees. This including portfolios focusing on women's economic and political empowerment, sexual and reproductive health and rights, ending gender based violence and women's and girls' leadership development, among others.
  • Coordinate with Program and Grants Operations staff to conduct non-standard data collection from grantees, including mid-term reporting, surveys, site visits, etc.
  • Compile and analyze data, and prepare reports for specific portfolios and other major grants, on request
  • Participate in grantee partner and advisor convenings as required
Research & Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Support research and writing of progress and impact reports
  • Coordinate with, and provide, in-house research and data analysis support to external evaluation consultants
  • Organize learning meetings to share findings with GFW staff, grantees, advisors, and other key audiences
  • Provide evaluation support to Program staff, as well as other teams, as appropriate
  • Assist in preparation of briefing papers, presentation in conferences, workshops and/or webinars on evaluation and learning related topics
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evaluation/research design and methodology
  • Experience in designing evaluation plans and systems with not-for-profit organizations and foundations, including developing theories of change or logic models
  • Proven skills in developing quantitative and qualitative research tools for data collection
  • Proven skills in data collection, including administering surveys, conducting and documenting interviews and focus groups
  • Proven skills in analyzing quantitative (via SPSS) and qualitative data, and writing evaluation reports and final products

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Director leads the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) grant-making programs of the Global Fund for Women. As a senior member of the Program team, the Program Director provides vision and strategic leadership to the organization's strategies in the region.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Director will be responsible for the strategic development and operational delivery of GFW's program in the LAC region.

Regional Focal Point and Integrator:

•Develop strong analysis to guide the grant-making priorities and strategies for the region •Oversee and manage a diverse portfolio of grants in the region •Develop, manage and strengthen the regional Advisory Council network •Ensure the timely and high-quality completion of all program deliverables and reports •Build GFW's capacity in the region to deliver on the grant-making vision and strategy, including managing the resources required to meet the programs' objectives and facilitating 'best practice' sharing •Provide regional thought leadership and strategic direction in response to the challenges women face in collaboration with GFW Advisory Council and grantee partners

Regional Strategy and Impact

•Ensure that regional program development activity achieves the desired results articulated in the strategic priorities and annual work plan •Work with the Vice President of Programs and the other Program Directors to implement a comprehensive Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation framework and approach in the LAC region •Track LAC external environment and trends – strategic priorities, desired impact, performance metrics and align LAC priorities with overall Program priorities •Lead the LAC region's operating plan and report on progress against strategic priorities

Strategic Regional Partnerships

•Build and engage a highly effective group of Program Advisers in the LAC region •Identify and secure the critical partnerships required in the region for funding, resourcing and support for grantee partners •Manage and strengthen collaboration with strategic partners, such as women's funds and peer women's rights and donor agencies. •Contribute to linking opportunities between grantees and donors •Articulate regional trends and grant-making priorities to diverse audiences, including media, donors and other organizations at public events, forums and conferences •Leverage additional resources for the movement by advising grantee partners and applicants on how to secure funding support from other funding sources and serve as a strategic bridge between women's rights organizations and other foundations/funders •Conduct exploratory visits and field trips to countries and areas that are strategic for the region and/or where strategic support to women's rights is required

Regional Fundraising

•Work with GFW's Development team to implement a LAC regional fundraising strategy to identify funding priorities, sources and opportunities •Work with the Vice President of Programs and Development to increase funding opportunities for the LAC region, including participation in meetings, presentations to current and prospective partners •Ensure time on grantee partner visits to also meet with current and prospective fundraisers, as appropriate •Work with grantee partners to expand opportunities for new partnerships and resource mobilization

Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation

•Participate in the development and implementation of a learning, monitoring and evaluation framework and coordinate its operation in the LAC region •Create, establish and share systems and models of effective and efficient grant-making to contribute both to GFW's organizational learning as well as to influence the field of philanthropy •Produce documentation and reports on the impact of GFW's grant-making and partnerships

GFW's Regional Presence

•Serve as the regional spokesperson and advocate; Promote knowledge of the region at the Global Fund through information sessions and grantee presentations •Work with GFW's communications team to ensure regular stories and social media on GFW's grantee partners and GFW's advocacy for the LAC region •Maintain up-to-date records on LAC grantees and programs in the region for use in GFW advocacy, communications and funding proposals •Represent the Global Fund for Women, influencing and informing decision makers, working collaboratively with leaders from other organizations, and building alliances and networks with other players in the social justice, human rights, women and feminist movements, among others

Capacity Building

•Ensure at least one regional and thematic convening every two years to be conducted with advisors and/or grantees. •Work with grantees in the region in operationalizing GFW's Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation plan •Identify opportunities for leadership training for grantees as well as speaking opportunities at key forums •Organize strategic grantee convenings to develop program initiatives and implement GFW's monitoring and evaluation strategy in collaboration with Advisors and Grantee partners

Organizational Responsibilities

•Administer an annual LAC budget (grant-making and program expenses) •Work with the Grants Operations staff to ensure the successful management and delivery and tracking of GFW's LAC's grants program •Manage the work of other staff as assigned, ensuring effective individual and team performance •Liaise with other Program Directors to ensure consistent policies across all regions; supervise interns and volunteers as needed •Build a performance-driven culture across the region, with monitoring and consultation with grantee partners on performance indicators and appropriate risk mitigation •As a member of the Senior Management Team, contribute to the overall leadership of the GFW •Promote an integrated approach, so that Development and Communication work is strategically aligned and balanced with program priorities: contribute to the organizational fundraising efforts by developing and strengthening relationships donors, as needed and in consultation with Development staff; contribute to the Communications team in drafting regional content for reports and publications •Participate actively in organizational knowledge management, sharing learning with others and drawing on learning from across the organization and our networks/alliances

JOB SUMMARY

As a member of the Program team, the Program Officer for Asia Pacific (AP) provides direct substantive support to the Program Director (PD) to implement a strategic, innovative, and high-impact grantmaking program that addresses complex challenges in international women's rights. The Program Officer for Asia Pacific region reports to, and is guided by, the PD in implementing programmatic and grantmaking plans for the region and in helping to manage relationships with collaborators and women's human rights organizations that request support from the Global Fund for Women (GFW). In addition, the Program Officer provides support on cross-team collaborations and initiatives in relation to issues and opportunities in the region.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Officer supports strategic delivery and operational implementation of the Global Fund for Women's program in the Asia Pacific region.

Regional Strategic Analysis and Grantmaking
  • Review proposals from groups to assess alignment of prospective grants with grantmaking strategies and priorities;
  • Support the compilation of grant dockets, including: preparing the analysis of prospective groups and researching specific topics related to regional grantmaking strategies;
  • Communicate with GFW Advisors to gather information and endorsements on potential grant recipients in consultation with PD
  • Contribute to developing grantmaking policies and programmatic collaborations; and to analyzing regional issues, trends, and strategies on women's human rights and philanthropy
  • Contribute to developing annual plans, budgets, and implementing initiatives
  • Keep abreast of developments in the Asia Pacific region through researching relevant materials and attending professional convenings as appropriate, to build expertise on knowledge of the region and of international women's rights, and help develop the programmatic priorities for the region
  • Support the PD and Development Team in providing data and content for grant proposals and reports
  • Participate when required in outreach activities, and thematic grantee convenings
Learning, Evaluation and Impact (LEI)
  • Support implementation of GFW's learning, evaluation and impact activities, with a focus on data gathering and improving documentation systems for the Asia Pacific region
  • Support the LEI team in drafting documentation and summaries on the impact of GFW's grantmaking, partnerships, and initiatives
Capacity Building
  • Support implementation of capacity-building activities with respect to needs identified by grantees and Advisors in the Asia
  • Assist the PD in organizing regional meetings of grantee partners and Advisors
  • Help identify opportunities for training for grantees and Advisors as well as speaking opportunities at key forums
Outreach and Communications
  • Articulate regional trends and grant-making priorities to external audiences, including media, donors and other entities as needed
  • Respond to outreach, communications, and development requests from other GFW teams as well as from grantee partners and Advisors
  • Coordinate linking opportunities between grantees and donors as needed
  • Meet with key collaborators and organizations seeking information about the GFW's program in the Asia Pacific region
  • Assist the Communications team in preparing publicity materials
  • Join and participate in membership organizations relevant to the Asia Pacific region portfolio
  • Represent the organization/regional team in conferences and other forums as able
  • Contribute content to GFW's social media outlets
Internal Operations
  • Contribute to Program Team and organizational meetings, initiatives, and projects

Required
  • Strong knowledge of women's rights issues in the Asia Pacific region
  • Strong knowledge of the economic, political, social and cultural trends in the Asia Pacific region via previous work, study, or living experience
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and appreciation for diverse viewpoints and different communication styles in a politically and culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to problem solve, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Fluency in oral and written English and at least one language of the region is required, including a high level of analytical writing

A minimum of three years substantive professional, academic, and/or activist experience in international women's rights issues. A Master's degree in social sciences or a related discipline is preferred, together with overseas living/working experience in Asia Pacific region.

JOB SUMMARY

As a member of the Program team, the Program Officer for Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) provides direct substantive support to the Program Director (PD) to implement a strategic, innovative, and high-impact grantmaking program that addresses complex challenges in international women's rights. The Program Officer for Sub-Saharan Africa region reports to, and is guided by, the PD in implementing programmatic and grantmaking plans for the region and in helping to manage relationships with collaborators and women's human rights organizations that request support from the Global Fund for Women (GFW). In addition, the Program Officer provides support on cross-team collaborations and initiatives in relation to issues and opportunities in the region.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Officer supports strategic delivery and operational implementation of the Global Fund for Women's program in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

Regional Strategic Analysis and Grantmaking
  • Review proposals from groups to assess alignment of prospective grants with grantmaking strategies and priorities;
  • Support the compilation of grant dockets, including: preparing the analysis of prospective groups and researching specific topics related to regional grantmaking strategies;
  • Communicate with GFW Advisors to gather information and endorsements on potential grant recipients in consultation with PD
  • Contribute to developing grantmaking policies and programmatic collaborations; and to analyzing regional issues, trends, and strategies on women's human rights and philanthropy
  • Contribute to developing annual plans, budgets, and implementing initiatives
  • Keep abreast of developments in the SSA region through researching relevant materials and attending professional convenings as appropriate, to build expertise on knowledge of the region and of international women's rights, and help develop the programmatic priorities for the region
  • Support the PD and Development Team in providing data and content for grant proposals and reports
  • Participate when required in outreach activities, and thematic grantee convenings
Learning, Evaluation and Impact (LEI)
  • Support implementation of GFW's learning, evaluation and impact activities, with a focus on data gathering and improving documentation systems for the Sub-Saharan Africa region
  • Support the LEI team in drafting documentation and summaries on the impact of GFW's grantmaking, partnerships, and initiatives
Capacity Building
  • Support implementation of capacity-building activities with respect to needs identified by grantees and Advisors in the Asia
  • Assist the PD in organizing regional meetings of grantee partners and Advisors
  • Help identify opportunities for training for grantees and Advisors as well as speaking opportunities at key forums
Outreach and Communications
  • Articulate regional trends and grant-making priorities to external audiences, including media, donors and other entities as needed
  • Respond to outreach, communications, and development requests from other GFW teams as well as from grantee partners and Advisors
  • Coordinate linking opportunities between grantees and donors as needed
  • Meet with key collaborators and organizations seeking information about the GFW's program in the Sub-Saharan Africa region
  • Assist the Communications team in preparing publicity materials
  • Join and participate in membership organizations relevant to the Sub-Saharan Africa region portfolio
  • Represent the organization/regional team in conferences and other forums as able
  • Contribute content to GFW's social media outlets
Internal Operations
  • Contribute to Program Team and organizational meetings, initiatives, and projects
  • Adhere to GFW policies and procedures
  • Undertake projects as assigned by the PD or VP of Programs
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Internal Relationships
Daily working relationship with the Program Director, Grants Operations staff, and fellow Program team members, including interns and volunteers. Interactions with Development and Communication staff.

External Relationships
Constant interaction with grantee partners, regional women's movements and networks, and Advisors. Communication as needed with institutional and individual major donors, peer organizations and foundations, international agencies and organizations, media, networks and interested outside parties.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required
  • Strong knowledge of women's rights issues in the Sub-Saharan Africa region
  • Strong knowledge of the economic, political, social and cultural trends in the Sub-Saharan Africa region via previous work, study, or living experience
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and appreciation for diverse viewpoints and different communication styles in a politically and culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to problem solve, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Fluency in oral and written French and English is required, including a high level of analytical writing
  • Demonstrated interest in a career within the field of women's human rights, women's and social justice philanthropy, and commitment to the mission and vision of Global fund for Women
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to perform thorough analysis and research

Preferred
  • Prior experience in grantmaking; organizational learning and monitoring; and project management
  • Experience with monitoring budgets and costing projects
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three years substantive professional, academic, and/or activist experience in international women's rights issues. A Master's degree in social sciences or a related discipline is preferred, together with overseas living/working experience in Sub-Saharan Africa region.

START DATE AND COMPENSATION

The projected start date for this position will be July. This position is located in San Francisco. Candidates must be eligible to work legally in the US and willing to relocate. The Program Officer, Sub-Saharan Africa is a part time, exempt position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. JOB SUMMARY
The Global Fund for Women is committed to a learning and impact-oriented approach in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of its programmatic work. In order to meaningfully contribute to this aim, GFW is investing more deeply in its strategic approach to measuring results, changes in context and behaviors at all levels (individual, community, national, and global) and to determining the impact of its support for grantees as well as its own work.
The Director of Learning, Evaluation, and Impact (LEI) will provide the necessary capacity building, tools, and guidance to support Global Fund for Women partners, grantees, and staff to demonstrate the results of GFW's work and investment in programs to advance women's and girls' universal human rights. Internally, documenting GFW's learning and results is critical to ensuring our accountability to grantee partners and donors and to improving our program quality and strategic decision-making. Externally, doing so contributes to our advocacy, fundraising, policy influence, and communications with key stakeholders and constituencies.
The LEI role sits within the Program team and reports to the Vice President of Programs. This position is situated within a team-based work environment, where team members work collaboratively on the organization's program, monitoring, and learning objectives. The position has important accountabilities to the Development team and to the Global Fund's donors. It also requires close work with Global Fund grantee partners and advisors to guide their efforts to capture evidence and learning.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Design and Implement GFW's Learning, Evaluation, & Impact Framework
  • Oversee the development of a whole-of-agency learning, monitoring, and evaluation framework and its implementation with staff, Board, grantees, advisors, and donors
  • Contribute to the annual and strategic planning processes to ensure that learning, monitoring, and evaluation is a key component of this work
  • Work closely with an LME consultancy in the development and operationalizing of this framework including the development of new tools and processes to capture impact data and oversee the timely and quality usage of tools
  • Create and implement ongoing trainings for staff, grantees, and advisors in relation to all aspects of GFW's learning, monitoring, and evaluation approach
  • Build the capacity of staff on effective approaches to capturing evidence, results, and impact
  • Work closely with grantee partners to capture program impact data in line with program impact goals and priorities, and to capture emerging evidence to support advocacy strategy priorities
  • Deliver a series of high impact development reports on an annual basis to meet donor commitments
  • Work closely with the Development team in meeting with and reporting to donors regarding GFW's learning, monitoring, and impact assessment approaches and results
  • Utilize and implement a range of mixed methodologies to capture outcomes and impact at both breadth (scale) and depth
  • Develop professional contacts with other interested stakeholders (local and international NGOs, research institutions, etc.) who could collaborate on research initiatives and impact assessments
  • Capture information related to the Global Fund's roles in support of social change and the realization of women's and girls' universal human rights
Reflection on GFW's Learning, Evaluation, & Impact
  • Lead and facilitate ongoing reflection, learning, and program quality improvement
  • Develop creative approaches to ensure unanticipated results and findings are captured, and develop and test new approaches
  • Facilitate regular reflective practices with staff, partners, and communities to ensure ongoing learning and improvement
  • Capture and document learning, pilots, and good practices and communicate recommendations for replication, scale-up, and improvement.
  • Proactively seek relevant and potential ideas, best practices, success stories, and lessons learned in order to support grantee partners to pilot and scale-up initiatives and programs, as appropriate
  • Work closely with partner and peer organizations to share data, information, and promote joint learning and reflection
External Operations
  • Lead GFW's approach to project design, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
  • Assist with the development of detailed log frames for existing and new projects in line with program frameworks and donor priorities
  • Support the formulation of indicators sensitive to gender and women's empowerment for all projects and build staff capacity for gender sensitive monitoring processes
  • Support grantee partners with data collection processes when needed and provide oversight on analysis processes
  • Provide input into project donor reports as needed to ensure key results and learning are effectively communicated
  • Support grantee partners to manage internal and external evaluations (including assistance in identifying scope of evaluation and key learning questions) and M&E visits.
  • Work with grantee partners and advisors to identify success stories and case studies to share with donors or post on Global Fund's website and work closely with the Global Fund's Communications team to develop the content
Database and Communication
  • Ensure key data and learning is up to date and supports external communications and fundraising efforts
  • Work closely with the Communications team to ensure that learning and impact is effectively communicated (through case studies, web material, etc.) to support the program and advocacy agenda
  • Ensure maintenance of a database of up to date statistics and core lessons learned from previous projects and feed them into new proposals and reporting processes
  • Help shape the capacity of GFW's database to support evaluation and learning
  • Oversee the collection and submission of all program data to Global Fund databases
Internal Operations
  • Support the overall goals and activities of the Learning, Evaluation, and Impact team
  • Manage a small team in the development, implementation, and continual monitoring and improvement of program and advocacy strategies
  • Actively participate with ideas, problem solving, and innovative thinking at all Program Directors and Program staff meetings and workshops and related events and meetings
  • Participate in related forums, such as partner meetings, research launches, and sector meetings, and maximize follow-up on the emerging research and learning
  • Provide leadership and proactive support in establishing a learning culture throughout the organization.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Internal Relationships
In this newly created role, the Director of Learning and Impact will lead a small team comprising a Senior Manager of Learning and Impact and a Program Officer of Learning and Impact. S/he will work closely with the Operations, Development, and Communication teams as well as with grantee partners and advisors to oversee their efforts in evidence gathering and data collection.
External Relationships
The Director of Learning and Impact will liaise with staff, grantee partners, advisors, donors, and NGO agencies to ensure synergies, collaboration, and networking on impact monitoring, research, and analysis; to strengthen partner and community capacity on participatory approaches to project and program monitoring and evaluation; and to ensure ongoing engagement of Global Fund's key stakeholders throughout.
