Asylum Access, an innovative, international human rights nonprofit, is looking to hire a temporary, full-time Program Associate for a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal. The Program Associate will provide special project, program support, and administrative to both the Legal Services and Policy Advocacy departments and global programs teams.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy Advocacy Support
  • Support the advocacy tool development including advocacy power mapping exercises, 1 pagers, talking points, sign-on letters and position papers for internal use and publishing in Refugee Rights Toolkit
  • Assist with research, writing, and general development of trainings for use of advocacy tools
  • Research Asylum Access's approach to special topics (i.e. child advocacy)
  • Identify and respond to gaps in organization knowledge of policy and strategic litigation issues; assist with growing knowledge and developing Toolkit content
  • Support logistics for refugee work rights (RWR) coalition could include blog writing, soliciting authorship for the blog, organizing coalition meetings (globally through Skype), potentially facilitate coalition meetings, maintain social media page for RWR
  • Provide administrative support for major international conference in Geneva UNHCR
  • Coordinate external policy-related meetings with key actors such as the US State Department and speaking engagements including putting together talking points for Executive Director
Legal Services Support
  • Serve as program liaison with overseas Legal Services and Community Legal Empowerment teams to identify areas of support and update HQ Leadership Team on Legal Services program progress
  • Coordinate identification of and connection to resources, information and support for overseas in-country program implementation
  • Develop legal services and community legal empowerment tools for internal use and for publishing in the Refugee Rights Toolkit, such as the development of legal services management, monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Develop an organizational Child Protection Policy through research, writing, and ongoing communication with overseas teams and external experts
  • Develop best practice proposal papers for legal services programs including but not limited to programming on livelihoods, child protection, and community leadership and participatory action
  • Facilitate conference calls with external experts and organizational staff and volunteers for training and advising purposes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Law degree with focus and/or background in international human rights law and refugee issues
  • Administrative experience
  • Strong research and writing skills; careful attention to detail
  • Strong cross-cultural understanding and communication skills
  • Experience in developing legal services and policy advocacy tools
  • Understanding of community education programs and best practices
  • Willingness to "roll up sleeves" and help where needed
  • International living/working experience in the global south an asset
  • Spanish language skills an asset

SPARK Movement (SPARK) is seeking a motivated, flexible Program Associate to join our team. Responsibilities include training, mentoring and supporting a diverse group of young feminists, online and on the ground, as activists, organizers, and leaders in the fight against the sexualization of girls.
SPARK is an intergenerational, "girl-fueled" activist movement working to end sexualization, a root cause of violence against women and girls. We are creating a cultural tipping point where sexualization is unacceptable, intolerable and unprofitable, while simultaneously building support for girls' healthy sexuality and overall well-being.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The main responsibility for this position is managing the SPARK Action Squad, an age, race, and gender-diverse group of girls and their allies who are passionate about supporting SPARK's campaigns while also growing and honing their own feminist and activist knowledge and experience. Managing the Action Squad includes, but isn't limited to:
  • Moderating and engaging with the Action Squad's online community;
  • Working closely with SPARKteam girl activists to develop and deliver trainings, book clubs, film screenings & discussions, and other activities with members of the Action Squad;
  • Drafting and sending twice-monthly emails to Action Squad members detailing ways they can take action;
  • Cultivating relationships with Action Squad members, including supporting and sharing Squadders' individual projects on SPARK's networks when they're aligned with our mission;
  • Developing & implementing strategies for growing the Action Squad and expanding its reach and impact.
For your other tasks, we will expect you to:
  • Help manage SPARK's social media outreach including Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram;
  • Edit blogs;
  • Coordinate and help manage SPARK events, especially our annual, "in-person" 5-day training retreat;
  • Advocate for SPARK in the media;
  • Execute administrative work when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience, patience and passion for working with a diverse groups of girls;
  • In-depth knowledge of issues surrounding feminism and sexualization, especially how sexualization intersects with race, gender, age, and sexuality;
  • Experience and comfort using Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram;
  • Motivated self-starter: though we're seeking a New York City-based candidate, SPARK staff work mostly remotely, and our work with the SPARKteam and Action Squad are entirely remote—that means lots of flexibility, but also some serious self-motiviation;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong writing and editing skills ;
  • Comfort communicating with different audiences, including teenagers, funders, activist partners and other diverse stakeholders.

A commitment to WLL's values and philosophy of principled pragmatism in defense of women's' advancement and work-life balance for both men and women is essential, as is intermediate skill in MS Office (Word, Excel), familiarity with Wordpress, Twitter, LinkedIn and ability to pick up other software and applications quickly. A social science background and 1 year of work experience are preferred.

DESCRIPTION

Sadie Nash Leadership Project is seeking a dynamic, energetic and qualified Program Associate for our Newark, NJ team. The Program Associate will work closely with the Program Coordinator to plan and implement social justice based programs for young women (ages 14-22). The Program Associate will also directly support afterschool and summer programs while building meaningful and healthy relationships with participants and the larger Newark community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop curriculum and facilitate leadership and social justice programming for young women in SNLP programs
• Manage SNLP internship program including training youth, establishing strong partnerships with local organizations, and evaluating program and conducting site visits
• Support outreach and selection initiatives for all programs
• Recruit, train, and support summer staff
• Assist with field trips, college visits, and special events
• Provide informal mentoring and support to participants and alums
• Co-develop new programming and initiatives to best meet the needs of participants
• Assist with site visits and data gathering for grants and reports
• Evening and Saturday availability required

The National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD) is a nonprofit social justice research organization that promotes just and equitable social systems for individuals, families, and communities through research, public policy, and practice. We envision a just society in which people are safe and supported in their communities and treated with dignity by the systems that serve them. Our mission is to promote just and equitable social systems for individuals, families, and communities through research, public policy, and practice. For more than 100 years, our research has informed better system responses at all points of contact. We work to help protect children from abuse and neglect and to create safe and rehabilitative justice systems for youth and adults. Within these systems we also study the unique concerns of girls, LGBT individuals, and overrepresented racial and ethnic groups.
NCCD has two offices, in Madison, Wisconsin, and Oakland, California; and operates two centers:
  • NCCD's Children's Research Center (CRC) collaborates with jurisdictions around the world to use research to improve service delivery to children and families. CRC is located in Madison.
  • NCCD's Center for Girls and Young Women addresses the needs of justice-involved girls by providing research-based, gender-specific training, technical assistance, and curricula to providers in the juvenile justice system. The Center for Girls and Young Women is located in Oakland.

POSITION
Summary Description
This position provides support to two projects related to LGBT youth in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems: 75% time will be spent on a policy project aimed at reducing the number of LGBT youth in out-of-home placement, and 25% time will be spent collecting and analyzing survey and interview data on LGBT youth in the juvenile justice system.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
This individual will be responsible for the following tasks.
  • Co-facilitating collaborative meetings.
  • Developing relationships and collaborating with other organizations completing similar work.
  • Developing anti-discrimination policies, data collection protocols, and data sharing agreements.
  • Managing the collection and coding of interview and quantitative data.
  • Collecting interview data from LGBT youth in the juvenile justice system.
  • Participating in discussions about quantitative data analysis.
  • Summarizing library and Internet research and writing literature reviews.
  • Drafting blog entries and leveraging social media to improve NCCD's visibility.
  • Completing proposals, reports, conference papers, and journal articles.
  • Attending meetings with staff, our partner organizations, and policy makers.
  • Organizing staff outreach events and making educational presentations.
  • Representing NCCD at local events and forums.
Problem Solving/Critical Thinking
High level of critical/analytical/interpretive thinking and problem solving required.
Demonstrates the ability to work/think independently and execute assignments that reflect understanding of project task objectives.
Budgets time efficiently to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Requests direction from supervisor as needed and reports back in a timely manner on problems encountered and assistance needed.
Checks in regularly with supervisor to ensure project tasks are completed within timeframes and meet conceptual objectives.
Level of Authority
Requires a higher level of decision making, autonomy, and accountability than the Associate I position but still requires general supervision/oversight for major project-related decisions. Formulates recommendations on project-related assignments and development strategies, and presents recommendations to supervisor/project manager for review.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
The ideal candidate will have an avid interest in research and policy and will have post-graduate coursework or a graduate degree in human development, education, sociology, law, legal studies, psychology, social work, ethnic studies, feminist studies, public health, public policy, or another related field. Minimum one to two years' experience. Must be detail-oriented, organized, and enthusiastic.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in the involvement of LGBT youth in multiple social service agencies. The majority of LGBT youth are also youth of color. Therefore, the ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural competency within the LGBT, Latino, Native American, First Nations, and/or African American communities.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Use of web-meeting technologies not required, but a plus.
Work schedule: Full-time position at 35 hours per week
