NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland (NPCM) and its sister organization, NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland Fund (Fund) is currently seeking a Development Coordinator. This person will oversee NPCM and the Fund's fundraising and development activities.

THE POSITION

NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland seeks a Development Coordinator. The Development Coordinator will assist the Executive Director and Outreach and Communications Coordinator in all matters regarding NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland and NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland Fund's fundraising and programmatic work.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan various fundraising events including house parties, yoga-thons, Phone-a-thons
• Oversees and implements all aspects in planning the annual Evening of Chocolate Gala
• Manage direct mail program, write fundraising letters, generate mailing lists, and organize volunteer events related to mailings;
• Monitor donations and keep database up to date;
• Manage work-place giving program;
• Assist with Major Donor cultivation and outreach;
• Handle administrative tasks such as ordering office supplies, letterhead and envelopes;
• Assist with programmatic work such as editing publications, writing web site content, and performing research
• Work with executive director to create and implement a yearly development plan

QUALIFICATIONS

Strong commitment to a woman's right to choose;

• College degree;
• 1-3 year previous fundraising experience required
• Excellent organizational and communication skills;
• Ability to multitask;
• Capacity to work occasional nights and weekends;
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment as a team player;
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel; prior experience with DonorPerfect and NGP a plus

• Experience with reproductive rights and/or justice work;
• Passion for development and fundraising;
• Working knowledge of various development modalities; and
• Sense of humor

SUMMARY

Uses team approach to assist consumers who are HIV positive or at high risk for HIV infection, to change risk behaviors and reduce the transmission of HIV and AIDS. During both daytime and evening shifts (includes combination of 9am-5pm, 2pm-10pm, 4pm-12pm or 12 midnight -8am), reaches out to target populations including commercial sex workers, intravenous drug users, other substance users, and people with multiple HIV risk factors. Performs outreach activities in communities of color and where consumers congregate including methadone clinics, shooting galleries, strolls, community parks and street corners. Establishes trusting relationships and provides street based services including emergency food, transportation, HIV counseling and rapid testing, Hepatitis C risk assessments and referrals to Project Street Beat mobile medical unit for services.

Enrolls consumers into the program by completing intake forms and documenting progress notes appropriately. Refers appropriate consumers to the case management component of Project Street Beat or other community-based organization for service plan development and intensive services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires Associates degree or equivalent appropriate life/professional experience. Must have minimum 2 years of experience working with target populations that have a wide range of social problems, including but not limited to prostitution, involvement with the criminal justice system, intravenous substance use and extended periods of homelessness due to child abuse and neglect and other family-related issues. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required. A valid New York State driver's license devoid of any violations is required. Must have HIV medical overview and HIV pre- and post-test counseling certificates of attendance.

Salary range: 29,000 - 33,000

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the Associate Director of Education in developing webinars and in-person trainings for affiliate Education Departments aimed at strengthening education programs;deliver trainings online, at affiliates, and at select conferences.
• Work with Public Policy and Communications staff to monitor state and local-level attacks on sex education; provide strategy and messaging support to affiliates for proactive and defensive work related to sex education policy; draft public policy analysis memos as requested by Government Relations; analyze news articles and reports as needed.
• Work with other PPFA staff to complete off-site reviews of affiliate Education Departments by participating virtually (via Skype or videoconference) in education interviews and providing input on affiliate compliance with accreditation requirements.
• Maintain updated resource materials for affiliate Education Departments by ensuring content is current and adding additional information and resources as they become available; assist in the development of new resources, as necessary.
• Respond to requests for support from affiliate Education Departments or other affiliate requests related to education via e-mail and phone.
• Develop messages for health center staff and communications work on dual use based on focus groups; work with Medical Affairs on strengthening standards and guidelines re: dual use; act as education coordinator for dual use work with communications.
• Assist with chat/text monitoring as volume expands.
• Develop plan for improving and updating "For Educators" section of PPFA website and assist with additional educational publications/video on breast health, for Let's Talk (e.g. parent and teen resources), GYT, and teen pregnancy prevention month.

DESCRIPTION

The Sex Education Campaign Manager leads the campaign strategy and implementation of the Sex Ed the City Campaign. This includes setting the direction of the campaign work; building relationships with allied organizations, school administrators, teachers and students; engaging Forward Together youth in campaign strategy and activities; and connecting our sex education work with state and national campaigns and initiatives. To meet with partners and attend meetings and conferences, this position will be required to travel. This position will also coordinate the online communication and social media strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops and implements strategic campaign plan that advances the goal of integrating comprehensive sexuality education in the Oakland Unified School District
• Works closely with the Youth Organizer (who runs the youth programming workshops) to involve the youth participants in the organizing, visioning, planning and implementation of the campaign
• Builds relationships with key partners and decision makers including allied youth organizations, Oakland school administrators, teachers, health centers and students
• Attends and presents at state and national meetings and conferences on sex education policy and youth organizing
• Leverages relationships with state and national partners to support the local organizing effort
• Co-facilitates selected youth programming workshops and provides support to youth programming events
• Updates and maintains coordinated communication with our youth database
• Supports the coordination of the youth program communications and social media strategies on
  Facebook
• Actively participates in all staff meetings, strategy sessions and Forward Stance practice (our mind-body approach to social change; learn more here)

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years’ experience leading and winning policy campaigns
• Strong analysis of issues related to gender, sexuality and sex education
• Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with youth from diverse communities in a social
  justice context
• Demonstrated track record building relationships and leading collaborative movement building
  strategies with multiple organizations and or groups
• Excellent written and oral skills, including group facilitation and presentations with youth and
  adults
• Flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
• Excellent skills in working with teams
• Excellent phone and email communication skills
• Highly organized and systematic project management skills and the ability to juggle competing
  priorities and deadlines
• Strong skills in social media and related technology
• Good people skills and an infectious, positive attitude when communicating about Forward
  Together’s work
• Available to travel nationally 1–2 times every 3 months
