MomsRising seeks a talented and experienced individual to be our first full-time, in-house Technology Director. He or she understands the technical challenges of engaging users with mobile and web technology -- and also knows how to implement smart solutions to these challenges. We are looking for a team player that thrives in a collaborative atmosphere. Excellent communication skills, the ability to change direction and execute quickly, and a sense of humor are important in this position. The ideal candidate has experience with web application development and modern web frameworks, as well as real-world experience with relational databases. 

MomsRising, www.momsrising.org, is a rapidly growing online and on-the-ground multicultural organization mobilizing the grassroots to advocate for family economic security, including paid parental leave, paid sick days, health insurance for all children, healthy school food, a healthy environment for our children, fair wages, and early childhood learning. We help citizens voice their support for policies and culture change that support mothers and families.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Day-to-day lead developer for MomsRising.org including the continued maintenance of technology that supports our web and social media presence, developing small scope projects and leading contractors to accomplish larger scope projects
• Evaluate the organization's current technology environment, assess the need for new technology tools, and make recommendations for improvement and acquisition of technology tools
• Monitor tech trends to see what's coming in technology -- we need you to spot new tools that have potential value for our work 
• Support and expand the use of technology for online fundraising
• Manage and analyze online data to enhance campaign performance and focus future online actions
• Provide technology expertise to each of our campaigns
• Train and support campaign staff members in the use of all technology tools
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, often on a tight timeline, sometimes requiring quick turn-around
• Coordinate with and oversee the work of multiple technology vendors
• Design and create reports to support digital engagement and online organizing projects

QUALIFICATIONS

• Proven experience developing production web applications on a Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) platform
• Expert knowledge of web design technologies: HTML, CSS, PHP and Javascript, including AJAX/JSONP APIs and libraries such as jQuery 
• Experience with a PHP MVC framework like Codeigniter or Laravel
• Ability to work productively in a virtual office; you should be a self-starter who is comfortable working with colleagues by IM, email and phone. 
• Excellent communication skills are essential
• Experience with an advocacy organization or political campaign is highly desirable
• Interest in MomsRising's mission to build a family-friendly America

Location: Flexible. MomsRising is a virtual team - you can work from anywhere.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands: Work requires the use of personal computers and standard office equipment to prepare, send and retrieve files and other documents. Must have the capacity to communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner that can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking. Willingness and ability to travel infrequently to meetings and events, including locations requiring air travel. May be required to sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time. Ability to perform complex mental functions and concurrently manage multiple deadlines and projects. OUR WORK
Break the Cycle is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage, educate and empower
youth to build lives and communities free from domestic and dating violence.

JOB SUMMARY
The Web Developer is responsible for updating and maintaining Break the Cycle’s web sites. Job duties include updating and maintaining web sites, creating and editing themes, designing and implementing features and other projects as necessary. The Web Developer reports to the Digital Strategies Manager.

This position is based in Los Angeles. Telecommuting is negotiable.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Updating and maintaining Break the Cycle’s web sites. This includes: updating Drupal core versions
and modules, updating/creating themes and templates and fixing bugs and errors.
• Creating new interactive features for Break the Cycle’s web presence, including liaising with vendors
as appropriate.
• Assisting Break the Cycle staff in updating of Break the Cycle’s various blogs and web pages.
• Building various web sites in Drupal, including migrating existing sites and creating new ones.
• Backing up site databases and files.
• Installing new modules and writing custom code if necessary.
• Coordinating with Break the Cycle staff and outside vendors to ensure projects are completed in a
timely manner.
• Ensuring cross browser compatibility on all projects.
• Assisting on other projects as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Some higher education, bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience working with and building sites in Drupal.
• Proficient in HTML,XHTML, HTML5, CSS.

• Working knowledge of PHP/Javascript required. Proficiency preferred.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Fireworks.
• Some web design experience preferred.
• Knowledge of major browsers and their differences.
• Project management experience and skills preferred.
• Self-starter with strong attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work productively with diverse groups of people and independently.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and stay organized.
• Professionalism, resourcefulness and a positive attitude.

Employment Type: Part time
Salary Details: $20-$30/hour DOE, up to 20 hours/week, flexible schedule. Paid sick days and holidays.
