Huntingdon House a program for survivors of domestic violence is hiring for the full-time position of Legal Advocate. Located in rural Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, Huntingdon House provides advocacy services for individuals and families who are living with domestic violence. Services include, 24 hour hotline, legal advocacy, individual and group counseling, emergency shelter, transitional housing, civil legal representation and prevention education services. All services are provided within a client centered trauma informed framework.
The legal advocate provides individual advocacy and counseling to victims of domestic violence within the context of a client centered trauma informed workplace. Duties include assisting clients with the preparation and filing of protection from abuse petitions, accompanying survivors to court hearings, legal appointments and other procedures in connection with civil legal proceedings, support counseling and safety planning. The legal advocate also services as the liaison to the Michael Ayers Law Project (providing civil legal representation to survivors) to provide a system of holistic representation to survivors. The advocate also acts as the liaison with law enforcement agencies, social service agencies, community legal services and the court system through facilitation of the Huntingdon County Domestic Violence Task force and referrals to the Michael Ayers Law Project.
Qualifications
Experience working with individuals experiencing crisis, working across community systems and office administrative duties. Knowledge of unique issues facing rural victims of domestic violence is preferred. Excellent writing, communication skills, professional telephone skills and a willingness to develop and learn new skills. Proficiency with Microsoft office and database management experience preferred. College degree preferred.

DESCRIPTION

For the past 32 years, Women Aware has been saving the lives of battered women and their children. Supported by a budget of $1.75 million from a variety of sources, we offer services in three locations including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, community education, support groups, counseling, and permanent supportive housing. All services are free and confidential. We are a state and national leader in the field - selected by the NJ Department of Children and Families to expand its Domestic Violence Liaison Program and launching the federal Jessica Gonzalez Special Victim Assistance Program for the State of New Jersey. These, as well as all of our programs and services demonstrate that we are moving ever closer to ending domestic violence in the lives of women, children and men; changing societal attitudes and institutions that promote and condone violence, and empowering survivors to live free of violence.

We are seeking a PT Case Manager (24 hours per week) for our PALS program, working with adult victims of domestic violence, needed for non-residential counseling program. Excellent verbal, written, and crisis-intervention skills. Bilingual Spanish and Bachelor degree required; DV experience and Master's degree preferred.

COMPENSATION: $15.63/hour or $32,510 annual (includes bilingual differential)

TRAINING RATE: A training rate of $2,500 to $5,000 less per annum may be offered for up to six months for applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements.

DESCRIPTION
CENTER FOR DOMESTIC PEACE is a non-profit organization, in existence now for 35 years, working at the county, state, and national level to end domestic violence. Center for Domestic Peace (C4DP) serves women, men, and youth who have been, and/or who are at risk of being, abused and or battered, or who have perpetrated, and/or who are at risk of perpetrating, abuse, bullying, and or battering. C4DP's programs helping children, teens, women, and men to live violence-free lives include: 24-hour hotlines; emergency shelters; transitional housing; support groups; legal advocacy; school programs; community prevention and education projects; professional continuing education programs; corporate, state, and nation-wide trainings; leadership development programs; and resource identification. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Be the primary point of contact and greet all participants, donors, tenants, public, and staff professionally; Provide support in-person, over the phone, and by email; 
• Provide office administrative support including copying, faxing, phone calls, message taking, processing mail, scheduling, ordering and maintaining inventory of office supplies;
• Assist with the planning, scheduling, logistics, catering, and materials preparation and designing for meetings, trainings, workshops, and any other events as requested;
• Coordinate conference room scheduling and assist with commercial tenants requests and follow-up, as directed by Operations and Facilities Manager;
• Document production assistance including but not limited to word processing, assembly, and placing orders with approved printers;
• Efficient coordination of administrative work to meet project schedules and deadlines;
• Update various employee schedules, as directed by Operations and Facilities Manager;
• Assist with projects as requested;
• General Admin support for C4DP programs as needed;
• Assist with receipt of donations.

REQUIREMENTS

• Fluent bilingual in English and Spanish; complete fluency in reading, writing, and speaking;
• Minimum of two years knowledge/experience in professional office administrative procedures;
• Excellent administrative and communications skills: with excellent communication skills in all these areas;
• Excellent computer/word processing skills, strong knowledge of MS Office Suite; 
• Knowledge of database use and management, including Microsoft Access and Excel; 
• Knowledge of phones, filing systems, office equipment, supply ordering and ability to perform tasks in a timely and consistent manner;
• Ability and desire to work as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment;
• Ability to organize, prioritize and work with diverse staff and service users;
• Resourceful, self-starting, self-motivated, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to be flexible;
• Sensitivity and understanding of the issues of domestic violence & feminist principles;
• Valid driver's license and auto insurance; 
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
