POSITION SUMMARY
The Housing Specialist, SSVF works a member of the social service team to provide Rapid Rehousing and Homelessness Prevention services to veterans/veteran families; functions as a bridge between veterans and housing providers to empower program participants to overcome barriers and meet the goals identified on their individualized housing stability plans; identifies safe, affordable permanent housing options for clients; fosters relationships with landlords and to link each program participant with appropriate community supports to ensure their housing stability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engage program participants by maintaining regular contact to monitor and track progress and response to services, including home visits and field work.
  • Establish linkages and maintain solid working relationships with permanent housing providers, real estate brokers, managing agents, and landlords as a resource for participants.
  • Develop a housing bank of available units and housing opportunities for qualified veteran families.
  • Assess veteran families' barriers to obtaining affordable permanent housing.
  • Provide supportive social services including individual and group counseling, workshops, education, referrals, and escorting in an effort to prepare veterans for successfully securing and maintaining permanent housing.
  • Assist veteran families with identifying and securing permanent affordable housing.
  • Prepare and assist participants with the housing application/interview process.
  • Provide accurate, complete, and timely documentation of the provision of supportive services and participant progression/regression toward the goals of securing permanent affordable housing.
  • Track, monitor, and report housing placement rates for all participant families.
  • Assist the social service staff in developing and implementing individualized housing stability plans with veterans/veteran families to address identified housing barriers for Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing services.
  • Complete all necessary documentation to ensure compliance with funding requirements, and agency quality assurance standards.
  • Advocate for veterans/veteran families at service providers and agencies in the community.
  • Coordinate the provision of Temporary Financial Assistance with third-parties and agency personnel.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with relevant funding and monitoring entities, faith based organizations, social service providers, and other community partners.
  • Participate in appropriate community collaborations and activities.
  • Participate in SSVF and Veterans Services team meetings.
  • Respond to client needs promptly, accurately and with courtesy and respect. Model appropriate behavior. Represent the organization in a positive and appropriate manner to outside resources.
  • Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality for clients and staff, restricting information to those who need to know only.

REQUIREMENTS
  1. BA in Human Services or related field and one year experience in housing services or a combination of education and experience.
  2. Experience with homeless families and/or veteran services highly desirable.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.

  5. Strong ability to network and negotiate with housing providers a must.
  6. Solid organizational skills/strong communication and writing skills required.

DESCRIPTION


Calvary Women's Services provides homeless women in Washington, DC with safe housing and comprehensive support services programs. Though the women who come to Calvary face many challenges, we believe that every woman has strengths and gifts she can build on to achieve her goals for stable housing, good health and financial independence.
Calvary has two open Development Associate positions. The Development Associates work with the Development Director, Grant Writer and Executive Director on fundraising, communications and related projects. This team ensures that Calvary can achieve its mission and meet the goals of the annual operating budget and Calvary's expansion plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and organize events, including the annual Hope Awards Dinner and cultivation and stewardship events; work closely with donors and members of the Board of Directors who host events on behalf of Calvary
  • Coordinate the organization's donor stewardship process, including acknowledgments, thank you calls and other personal outreach
  • Manage the organization's donor database and provide financial and fundraising reports
  • Complete donor research
  • Manage an in-kind donation program that reaches out to individuals and businesses
  • Manage a mailing program of four annual appeals and acquisition mailings
  • Establish a strong online presence through Calvary's website, blog, social media, e-newsletter, and email appeals
  • Generate traditional media exposure, through producing effective press releases, op-eds and more
  • Coordinate online giving campaigns, including managing volunteer involvement
  • Produce engaging fundraising and communications materials, including an annual report, brochures, background sheets and more
  • Work closely with the Events & Donor Relations Associate to promote events and ensure sponsor visibility
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least three years of fundraising, communications or related work experience
  • Creativity, initiative and passion for Calvary's mission
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with donors and colleagues
  • Superb writing and proofreading skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, responsibilities and deadlines
  • Enthusiastic team player, able to pitch in on a variety of projects
  • Experience with donor databases, especially DonorPerfect ; constituent management software; and social media

For the past 32 years, Women Aware has been saving the lives of battered women and their children. Supported by a budget of $1.75 million from a variety of sources, we offer services in three locations including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, community education, support groups, counseling, and permanent supportive housing. We are a state and national leader in the field - selected by the NJ Department of Children and Families to expand its Domestic Violence Liaison Program and launching the federal Jessica Gonzalez Special Victim Assistance Program for the State of New Jersey. ORGANIZATION

Founded in 1988, Asian Women's Shelter (AWS) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence and human trafficking and promoting the social, economic and political self-determination of women. AWS provides comprehensive programs and services in over forty languages through its Direct Service (DS) programs, including a 24-hour shelter program and crisis line, Multilingual Access Model, and Queer Asian Women and Transgender Support Program. AWS's Community Building (CB) programs change values, practices, systems, and policies through grassroots mobilization, systems reform, and inter-organizational community and capacity building. Support of Communities and Services (SOCS) programs empower community members and engage them in AWS as trained volunteers and multi-lingual, multi-cultural advocates and agents for change.

THE POSITION

The AWS Transitional Housing Economic Empowerment (THEE) Advocate provides AWS clients participating in the Transitional Housing Program with financial literacy, economic planning, and achieving self-sufficiency during residency in the AWS shelter and the transition (post-shelter) period for the duration of clients' participation in the AWS Transitional Housing Program. The THEE Advocate builds a network of appropriate housing and employment opportunities to assist clients in transitioning out of shelter to safe, sustainable independence. This is a temporary position for an initial period of two years.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Support for Case Management
  • Establish rapport with all residents and maintain working relationship during shelter residency and participation in Transitional Housing Program
  • Work in conjunction with Woman's Advocate (Case Manager) to coordinate a continuum of services before and after transition out of the shelter
  • With resident, develop transitional action plan, including housing, vocational training or job placement, and other appropriate services
  • Provide or arrange essential language access through multilingual language advocates for transitional services
  • Provide emotional support and advocacy following transition out of the shelter
  • Maintain regular contact and follow-up with clients throughout their participation in the AWS Transitional Housing Program
  • Participate in weekly case meetings of the Direct Services Team
Financial Literacy and Transition Readiness
  • With input from other Direct Services staff, develop and maintain curriculum of basic financial literacy for residents
  • Plan and implement financial literacy and economic empowerment workshops within the shelter
  • Coordinate and support participation of AWS clients in job readiness program provided by AWS partner agency.
Transitional Services (Housing)
  • Build network of housing opportunities, both in transitional housing programs and private housing
  • Assist residents in finding, applying for, and negotiating appropriate permanent or transitional housing
  • Coordinate site visits for residents to view housing and meet landowners; facilitate all necessary communication and documentation with landowners
  • Help residents during move to new housing
Transitional Services (Employment)
  • Build network of employment opportunities
  • Assist residents and former residents in finding and applying for appropriate training or employment
  • Support residents and former residents throughout their participation in the Transitional Housing Program
General Responsibilities Shared by Full Time Staff
  • Participate in committees for AWS annual benefit and annual holiday party for residents
  • Following completion of AWS training, share responsibility for crisis line, answering office phones, shelter emergency coverage, and mail pick-up
  • Contribute to general upkeep of office and shelter space and house maintenance
  • Actively participate in quarterly staff retreat and weekly staff meetings
  • Contribute to expanding public awareness and organizational visibility
  • Contribute to development and implementation of team and agency work plans and strategic planning
  • Respond if needed to shelter emergencies
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working across diverse communities (e.g. across ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, age, gender identity, race, class, education, and immigration status)
  • Experience in direct service or case management
  • Experience providing training to non-English speakers
  • Excellence in verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel, Word); Mac preferred
  • Ability to set timelines, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and participate in a team
  • Experience working with non-profits or CBO's, particularly in Asian, immigrant, and/or refugee communities
  • Commitment to the practice of non-violence, feminism, anti-homo/bi/transphobia, and anti-oppression
  • Commitment to direct communication, consensus-building, constructive and self-reflective conflict resolution, and practice of AWS values
  • Positive attitude towards problem solving and learning

Salary: $38-42,000, depending on experience

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The District Alliance for Safe Housing, Inc. (DASH) is a newly formed nonprofit agency that works to ensure access to safe and sustainable refuge for victims of domestic violence through the development and management of safe housing and related services, while increasing the capacity of other community-based organizations to expand housing for victims throughout the District of Columbia.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide intensive housing advocacy services and support to domestic violence survivors and their children in the temporary emergency housing program. This is a entry level management position. Duties include the following:


Advocacy:
  • Generating resources in the specialty area of housing, including: researching available supportive housing options, developing relationships with landlords, and housing programs, acting as a liaison to other agencies, attending related meetings regarding housing issues for homeless populations;
  • Conducting intakes and assessments with potential residents;
  • Providing concrete resources, information and referrals to residents;
  • Conducting needs assessments with each woman and her children to determine priority of needs;
  • Conducting weekly meetings, or as often as needed, with each family to ensure that they are receiving the appropriate levels of support;
  • Conducting outreach to housing/homeless programs to improve access for survivors;
  • Building referral relationships with employment service programs and other social service programs;
  • Assisting residents with creating budgets and financial plans;
  • Advocating on behalf of victims with city agencies, private landlords and other service providers;
  • Performing on-call duties;
  • Maintaining clear and timely documentation;
  • Participating in staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as needed;
  • Building partnerships with related community-based organizations; and
  • Meeting with the Clinical Supervisor, Children's Program Director, weekly and the Addiction Specialist as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree and two years work experience are required (education and or work experience may be substituted for these requirements). Excellent organizational, writing and analytical skills required, as well as high energy level, strong interpersonal skills, and initiative. Knowledge of domestic violence and social justice issues required. Knowledge of public benefits, social service programs and housing system. Ability to comfortably navigate neighborhoods throughout the District. A demonstrated ability to work independently and comfort working in a newly formed nonprofit. Fluency in another language a plus.

Preferences: Ability to speak, write and understand the Spanish and Amharic languages.

DESCRIPTION

The Downtown Eastside Women's Centre is seeking a Housing Support and Outreach Worker that will work with women who live in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver to support them in establishing and maintaining appropriate safe housing. She will provide service referrals, advocacy, and accompaniment to women to connect them to appropriate housing as well as other agencies and support services within and outside of the DTES. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach: Increase the continuum of and access to housing, care and support services by connecting chronically homeless women to services through assisted referrals, accompaniment, and transportation where necessary.
Referral: Assist women through the referral process to internal and external services such as counseling, housing, legal aid, education, etc. to ensure a successful transfer of service. 
Resources: Develop and maintain positive relationships with housing providers, including SRO's to assist women in accessing and maintaining housing.
Advocacy: Provide information, referral, and advocacy to women in such areas as income assistance, housing, health services, drug and alcohol treatment and recovery, victim's assistance, counseling, and education. 
Education and Programming: Develop and facilitate educational workshops and programming related to housing issues. Develop and maintain links with other community agencies that work in the areas of housing/homelessness by attending meetings and community events.

QUALIFICATIONS
 Minimum five years related experience, at least 2 years in the Downtown Eastside
 Familiarity with support services, agencies and community resources in the Downtown Eastside
 Experience providing outreach, referral, and advocacy, 
 Knowledge of affects of mental health and addiction issues.
 Must work from a Feminist, Anti-Oppression perspective
 Ability to work within a chaotic environment and with a diverse community of women
 Ability to work independently and as a member of a staff collective
