Established in 1972 to address the under representation and misrepresentation of women in the media industry, Women Make Movies is a multicultural, multiracial, non-profit media arts organization which facilitates the production, promotion, distribution and exhibition of independent films and videotapes by and about women. The organization provides services to both users and makers of film and video programs, with a special emphasis on supporting work by women of color. Women Make Movies facilitates the development of feminist media through an internationally recognized Distribution Service and a Production Assistance Program.
Internships are available for Spring 2015 term in:
Marketing/Publicity
• Production Assistance/Fiscal Sponsorship
• Distribution
• Administration
BENEFITS & COMPENSATION
All WMM internship positions are unpaid. However, interns qualify for and have access to a number of services and benefits:
• Local travel reimbursement
• Free workshop attendance
• Free access to screen titles from the Women Make Movies collection
• College or University course credit
The ideal candidate will be studying film production or cinema studies and have an interest in human rights/social justice. We are looking for interns to start in early February and continue through May.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills; strong organizational skills; the ability to multi-task, work independently and work well under pressure; and will take initiative. Familiarity with Internet research, Windows XP and the Microsoft Office Suite necessary. Knowledge of and interest in feminist media a plus.

Founded in 1972, Women Make Movies (WMM) is a non-profit feminist, media arts organization dedicated to the distribution and exhibition of films by and about women. Additionally, Women Make Movies' Production Assistance (PA) Program provides assistance to emerging and experienced women directors in the production of new documentaries, fiction and experimental films.
We are looking for a smart, savvy, hardworking individual who can work independently in a busy, fast paced office. We want a superstar who is socially aware, feet firmly planted on the ground, and knows how to get the job done efficiently and effectively! Please have a strong sense of work ethic, especially with regard to showing up to work on time, every day. The right candidate will have at least two years experience in an office administration position, with an understanding of office management and maintenance, and excellent methods of communication. We are looking for someone to grow with the organization, who is able to understand the big picture, and who can successfully juggle multiple tasks in a productive and polite manner. The ideal candidate must also have a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, be able to effectively prioritize, and must be willing and able to wear multiple hats.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the Front Desk.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations and functions of a 10-person office.
  • Responsible for the Intern / Work Study Program
  • Primary liaison with Building Superintendent and Subtenant.
  • Assist Administrative Director with Human Resources (recruitment, hiring, training, insurance)
  • Works closely with the Acquisitions Director on logging and tracking new film acquisitions

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Mandatory 2 - 3 years experience working in an administrative position (preferably with some supervisory experience)
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft platform.
  • Proficiency using organizational contact database and mailing lists.
  • Detail oriented and strong organization skills.
  • Excellent writing/communication/customer service skills.
  • Must be comfortable on phones!!
  • Sense of humor appreciated.
  • Experience with a non-profit or media arts organization helpful.
  • Commitment to multi-cultural feminist media.
  • Friendly, professional, and pleasant demeanor.

DESCRIPTION

Women Make Movies is seeking an energetic, dedicated and highly motivated full-time Marketing and Outreach Coordinator. This person will be responsible for coordinating and implementing all areas of marketing, specifically, outreaching and marketing the WMM collection of films to educational, community and cultural organizations. In addition, this person will update and maintain the WMM website, WMM's presence on social networking sites, and develop new Web and organizational partnerships to publicize WMM campaigns.

This is a great opportunity for someone with web, outreach and marketing skills to work collaboratively with the sales and marketing department. Ideal candidate will have a passion for feminist, political and cultural activism and be enthusiastic and creative about using the internet and emerging digital strategies to market the WMM collection of films.

Founded in 1972, Women Make Movies (WMM) is a non-profit feminist, media arts organization dedicated to the distribution and exhibition of films by and about women. With a collection of more than 500 titles, WMM is the largest distributor of films by and about women in the world. WMM also facilitates the production of feminist media through a Production Assistance (PA) Program, which includes a workshop series and a fiscal sponsorship program.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2+ years professional experience in coordinating and executing outreach and marketing campaigns in a film and/or media environment using varied online tools including email programs. Grassroots outreach experience a plus.
  • Excellent writing skills. Experience with publications and direct mail a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with web-based marketing activities (emails, blogs, tagging, social networking, viral marketing, SEO, Google adwords and analytics) and online videos. Some experience with HTML and web design preferred.
  • Excellent research, analytic, administrative and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and as a team.
  • Team player, flexibility, professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written format.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for WMM. Sense of humor a plus.

JOB SUMMARY

This half time (20 hr/wk) position is responsible for the technology and
talent needed for marketing, branding, and communications that include video-filming and photography including necessary editing a of videos and photographs. The ability to research innovative marketing techniques is desired. Also requires maintaining email lists, managing registration of courses and events, creating designs necessary for the advertisement and implementation of MSATCW courses, events and branding.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Marketing: research, focus groups, branding, targeting specific audiences
  • Live streaming of all courses
  • Filming, and editing of courses and lectures
  • Video of course professors for advertising purposes.
  • Photography for social media and websites.
  • Manage all registrations for courses and events
  • Maintain all office computers as requested
  • Maintain updated email and mail lists, sources for electronic advertising
  • Assist in the preparation of class, course and conference documentation prepared by the Director or other lecturers for MSATCW classes.
  • Execute mailings as needed.
  • Work in cooperation with all MSATCW staff, teachers and Directors.
  • Answer phones as necessary.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Skilled in video filming, uploading to Vimeo, photography, and editing
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Professional Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word and SharePoint
  • Skilled in the use Windows operational systems and software including Access, Paintshop and Quark.
  • Creative ability in design and advertising.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and responsibly.
  • Ability to handle and resolve problems within the job responsibilities.
  • Flexible with work schedule when requested by Director. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Associate degree in business, marketing, or communications preferred.
  • Two years of related office experience or a combination of education and experience.
