Background:
Plan aims to actively promote gender equality in every sphere of our programmes, partnerships and organisational culture. Plan recognizes that targeted and strategic investments in the promotion of gender equality can improve the quality of programmes, and significantly contributes to poverty reduction and the realisation of human rights. This view is central to Plan’s flagship Because I am a Girl Campaign (BIAAG).
This post supports Plan’s strategy and mission by developing the skills, tools and capacities of Plan offices and staff to integrate gender equality effectively within our programme work and by supporting the monitoring of Plan’s progress towards gender equality. In 2011 Plan approved a global Policy on Gender Equality which articulates our commitments to gender equality. In 2012 Plan approved a Strategy on Gender Equality which outlines the priority actions and indicators for achieving the policy’s commitments. This post is critical to the achievement of the gender standards outlined in Plan’s Policy on Gender Equality, and supports the programmatic aspects of Plan’s Because I am a Girl campaign.

Dealing with Problems:
Problems to be handled may involve working across functions and departments in Plan to ensure uptake and accountability is achieved across Plan’s core gender standards in programmes. This will require skills in negotiation, listening, analysis and creative thinking to solve such challenges.
Communications and Working Relationships:
The Gender Technical Officer will report directly to the Global Gender Advisor who oversees the Programme Pillar of the BIAAG Campaign. The position will sit within Plan’s Programme Quality Team. Other key working relationships include Director of Programme Quality, the Progamme Effectiveness Team, the BIAAG Core Team, Regional Gender Specialists (all four Regional Offices); alongside other experts on gender equality in COs and NOs.

Salary: £40, 476 - £45,000 per annum.
