Get on board with an exciting campaign to redefine the direction of school reform in New York City. After 12 years of a reform agenda focused on testing, school closings and privatization, the results are disappointing. Only one in four students graduate college ready and the achievement gap remains a chasm. The key to successful reform is investing in proven classroom education strategies, supporting students and teachers, and engaging parents and communities as partners in reform. The Alliance for Quality Education working in conjunction with key partner organizations in New York City to run this year-long campaign. We are hiring an experienced Campaign Manager to work with a highly skilled team that includes advocates, organizers, communications professionals, and policy experts. Campaign involves a wide ranging coalition of organizations. This is an issue advocacy campaign that will focus on the 2013 New York City Mayoral election to redefine the direction of school reform.
Activities
Provide senior campaign leadership to ensure wide campaign successfully executes wide range of activities.
  • Execute series of advocacy campaign activities designed to frame the public debate including
    • Town Halls
    • Rallies
    • Press Conferences
    • Policy Reports
    • Candidate Debates or Candidate Forums
    • Work effectively with a wide range of 30 coalition partner organizations to maximize their engagement, leveraging staff resources and membership participation. This includes both community and labor partners.
    • Interface with campaigns of all major mayoral candidates on a regular basis.
    • Engage members of Congress, state legislators, city council members, and other elected officials as partners in campaign activities and media events in order to bolster public profile of the campaign.
    • Maintain an aggressive and ambitious calendar of campaign activities that secures extensive media coverage, engages key stakeholders, candidates and elected officials.
    • Work with communications, organizing and policy staff as well as Executive Director of AQE and leadership of core partner organizations to ensure a well planned, multi-faceted campaign that effectively shapes the debate.
    • Function as an effective team member able to provide campaign leadership and partnering effectively with multiple organizations.
    • This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Job Qualifications
4+ years campaign management, organizing or related experience
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and management to fast pace, multi-faceted campaign.
Strong political skills necessary to relations with numerous elected officials and candidates
Experience working in coalitions or demonstrated ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders
Experience working in racially, economically and linguistically diverse communities
Proficiency with policy and advocacy issues
Strong writing skills, strong verbal and interpersonal communications skills
Ability to thrive in high paced, stimulating campaign environment, work as a team player and get the job done
Capacity to coordinate multiple tasks, activities and projects successfully. Must be highly motivated self starter who is committed to making a difference and to the success of the project.
