JOB SUMMARY
The WR/RR Program Director at Wellspring Advisors oversees all aspects of grantmaking under both the Women’s Rights (WR) and Reproductive Rights (RR) Programs, including developing the program’s strategic framework, maintaining alignment with other programs, and leading and managing team members.  Along with the Partners, Chief Operating Officer, and the Directors of all Programs at Wellspring, the Program Director serves as a member of the senior management team.  The WR program at Wellspring supports work to create a more powerful women’s movement able to advance women’s human rights; the RR Program supports work to expand women’s ability to fully exercise their autonomy over their reproductive lives.  Grantmaking for both programs is predominantly international, with a portion of the RR Program work undertaken in the United States.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy  
• Lead the development of strategic plans and other strategy documents required to both guide programs and comply with governance requirements.  
• Develop and oversee team’s development of grantmaking approaches that respond to established priorities.
• Monitor developments in the field to identify emerging needs, gaps, and opportunities. 
• Ensure programs’ alignment with Wellspring’s mission; ensure alignment between grantmaking and program strategy.
• Work with staff from Wellspring’s other program areas to advance programmatic and institutional goals.
• Work with Wellspring’s Department of Research and Evaluation and consultants to integrate measurement and evaluation as well as capacity-building and technical assistance throughout the program internally and among grantees.
Grantmaking
• Manage overall grants portfolio for the program, including overseeing grantmaking of program staff.
• Potentially manage a portfolio of grants, including screening potential grantees; meeting with current and prospective grantees; conducting site visits; developing and evaluating funding proposals; preparing docket materials; and monitoring active grants.
• Ensure adherence to internal grantmaking/due diligence policies and procedures.
External Relations
• Establish partnerships with other members of the donor community.  Educate and engage other funders to advance Wellspring priorities.  
• Participate in and supervise collaborative grantmaking mechanisms, pooled funds, and matching/challenge grantmaking.
• Provide support to individual grantees and convene grantees and others to promote strategic thinking and collaboration.
Donor-Client Relations
• Prepare and oversee the development of donor-client education materials including strategy documents, annual reports, and other updates.
• Conduct semi-annual grantmaking presentations to donor-clients (two for each program).
• Participate in firm-wide meetings with donor-clients.
• Respond to client requests for information.
Financial Stewardship
• Ensure effective and timely allocation of  two grantmaking budgets.
• Develop and ensure effective management of annual administrative.
Supervision, Management, and Leadership
• Manage, supervise, and work integrally with program staff in accomplishing the abovementioned tasks.
• Provide overall strategic direction to guide program implementation by team.
• Foster healthy working relationships within the team and across Wellspring.
• Set expectations, provide support and guidance to team.
• Evaluate staff on an ongoing basis, including an annual review.  Identify and implement individual professional development and performance improvement plans.
• In accordance with personnel policies, make decisions regarding working conditions of staff.
• Manage the hiring of new staff as needed. 
• Serve as member of the Senior Management Team including
          • Proactively identify and support the development and implementation of  organizational priorities, initiatives, and policies, both
            programmatic and operational, that advance Wellspring’s mission.
          • Identifying and strengthening cross-program collaboration as needed.
          • Serving as a bridge between Wellspring’s partners, the Senior Management Team, the Chief Operating Officer, and the Evaluation,
            Grants Management, Administrative teams and the WR/RR program team.
          • Periodically managing projects outside the scope of programs, as they arise.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
Wellspring is seeking applicants who have experience in one or more of the following areas: social justice grantmaking, international women’s rights advocacy, national-level (US, East Africa, Latin America) advocacy, research and dissemination of research.  Additionally, knowledge of and/or expertise in reproductive rights, violence against women, and land rights is highly preferred.  Specifically, Wellspring is seeking a candidate with the following qualifications:
• Minimum of fifteen years’ experience (at least five of those in a leadership position) with an NGO or foundation advancing women’s rights.
• Ability to think strategically, establish goals and priorities, and ensure effective and timely implementation of programs.
• Ability to maintain adherence to priorities approved by clients and within a larger institutional framework.
• Ability to establish and maintain close, collegial working relationships with colleagues in other programs and departments, and with grantees from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
• Ability to work independently and manage own time.
• Ability to plan and manage multiple priorities on different timelines.
• Ability to learn quickly when confronting new issues and priorities.
• Ability to handle confidential client/donor information with complete discretion, and comfort working in a relatively low profile organization. 
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Good judgment and a good sense of humor.
• In-depth knowledge of and contacts in the philanthropic sector.
• Experience as an effective manager of staff and a budget

What is the STAY Program?
The Supportive Housing for Transition Age Youth (STAY) program provides community-based mental health services to 18 – 25 year olds that are struggling with persistent and severe mental illness as well as homelessness. The primary objective of the STAY program is to support our Participants to become more stable in the community, which includes providing hands on assistance with accessing stable housing; developing effective life management skills and managing their mental health symptoms. Services are provided primarily in the Participants' natural environments, which can include communities such as East Oakland, Hayward, Berkeley, and San Leandro. The population served is diverse and includes African American, Caucasian, Latino, and Asian Pacific Islander young adults.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Director is responsible for the program's daily operations, including program oversight; coordination of training, hiring, termination, and direct or indirect supervision of all program staff, and interfacing with funders, governmental agencies, and community providers.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Program Development: 1) Assumes responsibility for every aspect of the daily operations of the program; 2) encourages staff commitment to program values of a comprehensive team approach, which provides individualized, strength-based, culturally competent, needs-driven planning and services for participants and their families 3) establishes mechanisms to assure the quality of the program including documentation, standards of practice, and compliance with external regulatory agencies; 4) responsible for developing, implementing, and insuring compliance with program standards including but not limited to: outreach, intake, discharge, staff productivity, Medi-Cal, Utilization Review/Chart Review, MHSA, and other clinical best practice standards; 5) responsible for developing and managing budgets.
Community Development: 1) Acts as a liaison with community service providers in assuring that program conducts effective outreach and remains responsive to the community's needs without compromise to program intent; 2) facilitates meetings as needed with other agencies; 3) works closely with other TAY/youth-serving agencies to build and maintain relationships and to ensure quality of care with participants; 4) attends county oversight meetings and works collaboratively with DSS, probation, county behavioral health staff, and/or other relevant governmental agencies.
Supervision: 1) Directly or indirectly supervises clinical and paraprofessional staff in program; 2) provides one hour of formal supervision weekly for each supervisee, in addition to informal supervision and consultation as needed; 3) facilitates weekly group supervision; 4) employs strength-based supervision that integrates a co-occurring, family-focused, and trauma-informed approach; 5) works with supervisees to address financial issues that families present; 6) encourages the use of community resources and natural resources in developing participant/family supports; 7) teaches supervisees how to partner with participants and families.
Documentation: Reviews and signs all treatment plans, progress notes, and reports written by supervisees. Prepares all program reports for submission to the funder(s).
Team Leadership: 1) Provides leadership to program team; 2) works with all program staff to ensure program participants receive quality services and program attains fiscal and contract outcomes.
Training: 1) Recruits, hires, and trains program staff; for contracted positions, works cooperatively with leadership staff of collaborative agency partners to hire program staff; 2) facilitates staff meetings and develops and presents clinical trainings.
Direct Services: 1) Provides direct services to participants as needed (i.e., when a supervisee is out) including assessment, therapy and case management; 2) facilitates Participant Partnership Team meetings as needed.
Other Duties: 1) Provides on-call training and consultation for clinicians; 2) is available as back-up support to the clinician on call; 3) other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. MA/MSW required LCSW or MFT Required; two years post-licensure experience also required if supervising staff who are pursuing licensure with the BBS.
  2. At least one year of supervisory required or program management experience strongly preferred.
  3. At least one year of residential, community-based, or wraparound experience preferred.
  4. At least one year post-graduate school experience with program target population preferred (Example: intellectually disabled, homeless, teens or young adults, SED); at least one year experience with program modality (example: school-based, residential, mobile/community-based, assertive community treatment, wraparound, etc.) Preferred
  5. Preferred: demonstrated ability to assess, triage and organize work.
  6. Preferred: Uses a strength-based, culturally competent approach to supervision, participant and community service.
  7. Preferred: Experience with relevant evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, DBT, trauma-informed approaches).
  8. Preferred: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse families and communities.
  9. Preferred: Has strong behavioral, crisis management and family/individual/group therapy skills.
  10. Preferred: (sometimes Required): Fluency in prevailing language(s) of the community services.
  11. Must have access to dependable transportation available and personal car insurance, unless using agency vehicle

SUMMARY

The Program Director is a motivated, enthusiastic leader at our dynamic and growing organization. The Program Director is one of the top administrators at GirlForward, overseeing the coordination, administration and assessment of all aspects of ongoing and planned GirlForward programs. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Director performs a wide range of duties including some the following:
  • Plan the delivery of programs and their activities in accordance with our mission and goals

  • Assess and report on the strengths of programs and desired outcomes, and identify areas for improvement

  • Ensure that programs operate within the approved budget and that financial records (receipts, invoices, etc.) for programs are up-to-date
  • Lead program evaluations in accordance with established guidelines, reporting evaluation findings to the Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a related field with 3-5 years of relevant experience that includes supervisory and administrative experience
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, Google applications (G-mail, Drive, Google Calendar)
  • Demonstrated success in youth program management
  • Demonstrated familiarity with: refugee resettlement, adolescent girls' programming and researching surrounding empowering girls, issues specific to English Language Learners, issues specific to the Chicago area
  • Proficient in social media tools
The GirlForward Program Director is an effective communicator, multi-tasker, teacher and team player who is passionate about GirlForward's mission. In addition, the Program Director should demonstrate competence in building relationships, communicating effectively, creativity and innovation, leadership, organization, and problem-solving.

The Program Director will most often work in the GirlForward office, but will also complete job responsibilities in participants' homes, school environments, and other similar locations. This position will be required to work some evenings and weekends to manage program activities.

DESCRIPTION
