POSITION SUMMARY
The Early Head Start Doula Home Visitor develops and maintains supportive strength based, culturally sensitive relationships with pregnant women and their families by providing education, physical and emotional support during all trimesters, labor and postpartum. The EHS Doula Home Visitor is responsible for ensuring that pregnant women and their families receive comprehensive home visiting and doula services to ensure the optimal development of pregnant women and their newborn babies helping them to establish healthy parent-child relationships. The EHS Doula Home Visitor ensures compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards and EHS Services to Pregnant Women requirements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS
Program Implementation:
  • Recruit and enroll families into the Doula Home Visiting Program
  • Maintain a caseload of 12 pregnant women providing regular doula home visiting and 24/7 availability for attending births
  • Ensure the EHS Services for Pregnant Women standards along with appropriate Head Start Program Performance Standards are in compliance
  • Established trusting, nurturing relationships with pregnant women and their families
  • Assist pregnant women in establishing goals and a birth plan for the Family Partnership Agreement and creating a plan for the accomplishment of the goals
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance regarding the mental health and developmental needs of pregnant women
  • Assists pregnant women and their families in accessing and documenting all needed health services including pre-natal visits, well child check ups, and mother post partum well being care
  • Aid in the preparation of the pregnant woman and her family for the labor and delivery utilizing appropriate doula techniques both during home visits and in group based services
  • Develop and facilitate prenatal education, advocacy and support parent groups
  • Participate in Doula Trainings, conferences, workshops, IBTI training and other trainings as required by the program
  • Obtain the needed community resources services and linkages for pregnant women
  • Acts as an advocate for the pregnant woman; interprets and explains medical procedures
  • Provide regular "first months of life" doula post partum home visits to all doula program mothers and newborns until they are enrolled in a cluster site or other infant child care programs
  • Assist program mothers in transitioning into EHS child care programs or other infant child care programs
  • Assist with community outreach efforts targeting local hospitals, clinics and community service organizations
  • Participate in regular reflective supervision and staff meetings as required by the program
  • Maintain and document all services in the family files and ensures up to date program files for each pregnant woman in the caseload
  • Enter participant information and other required program information into the MIS system in a timely manner

  • Participate in Research planning and evaluation efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job description
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Associates Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field required. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field preferred.
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • At least 3 years experience working in early childhood/family support, or home visiting programs required
  • At least 2 years direct experience with Head Start preferred
  • Ability to establish supportive, meaningful relationships with pregnant women, families and their infants
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of infant and child development and family practice
  • Ability to use reflective supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Knowledge of community resources and the capacity to develop community cooperation to ensure that pregnant women receive comprehensive services
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Family Care International (FCI) is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to building a world where no woman suffers preventable pregnancy-related injury or death, where childbirth is safe for mothers and their babies, and where all people are able to enjoy their sexual and reproductive health and rights. FCI advocates for sexual and reproductive health and rights at the global, regional, and country levels; builds the capacity of local partners in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean; and develops information, advocacy, and training materials. FCI is headquartered in New York, with locally-staffed and managed field offices in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.

FCI's primary revenue source is project grants from institutional donors, including governments, UN agencies, major foundations, and corporations. Unrestricted support, needed to cover core institutional expenses, fund strategic initiatives, and fill funding gaps, comes primarily from a small and loyal corps of individual and family donors. FCI intends, over the next three years, to build and expand upon this base of support in order to substantially increase annual unrestricted funding, ensure institutional sustainability, and foster strategic growth.

The Senior Development Officer will develop and execute fundraising strategies and deliver results, with a focus on identifying and cultivating new prospective donors, increasing giving by current individual donors and private/family foundations, and broadening FCI's base of support throughout the U.S., in order to achieve fundraising objectives and meet institutional needs for unrestricted funds.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The specific duties and responsibilities of the Senior Development Officer, carried out in collaboration with and supervised by the Director of Communications and Development (DCD), include the following:
  • In consultation with the DCD, develop realistic and challenging short-term and long-range goals for fundraising from individuals and family foundations
  • Identify existing donors with potential for increased and/or more consistent giving, and develop and implement strategies for strengthening relationships with them and realizing their full giving potential
  • Strategically use information, intelligence, and research to design and implement strategies for broadening the identification, cultivation, and acquisition of major donors
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and provide stewardship for a growing portfolio of major individual/family donors, managing the prospect pipeline and successfully converting prospects into long-term supporters
  • Coordinate with FCI's president, members of senior management, and HQ and field-based program staff to meet with, provide information to, and strengthen relationships with top-tier donors
  • Staff the development committee of FCI board, and mobilize board members to leverage their influence and relationships to benefit FCI's fundraising efforts
  • Collaborate with Communications team and program staff to develop compelling fundraising campaigns, materials, webpages, emails, etc.
  • Manage and execute annual appeals, including but not limited to the spring (Mother's Day) appeal and end-of-year appeal, in collaboration with Communications staff
  • Collaborate with DCD and senior management to explore and evaluate potential fundraising approaches, including direct mail, events, planned giving strategies, etc., and to implement selected approaches
  • Conduct regular analysis and reporting of individual/family fundraising results against short and long-term targets
  • Manage donor database and management system
  • Maintain relationships with charity rating agencies
  • Supervise interns to assist with prospect research, mailings, and administrative functions
CORE REQUIREMENTS
  • B.A. or graduate degree
  • 6+ years of relevant experience, with proven results in developing strong, positive relationships with individual donors and family foundations
  • Knowledge and comfort with all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, one-on-one solicitation, cultivation and stewardship, and event-based fundraising
  • Experience building strong, respectful, effective working relationships with high-level donors, board members, etc.
  • Ability to speak and write articulately about FCI issues and programs, and to conceptualize and describe funding needs in a way that is compelling to potential donors
  • Strong commitment to FCI's vision, mission, and values; knowledge of global health and/or reproductive health issues preferred
  • Self-starter and team player, capable of working independently and collaborating effectively with colleagues
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of DonorPerfect or similar donor management packages
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%)

Every Mother Counts (EMC) is a campaign to end preventable deaths caused by pregnancy and childbirth around the world. Every Mother Counts informs, engages, and mobilizes new audiences to take action to improve the health and well being of girls and women worldwide. Every Mother Counts is still a very small organization but has offices in both New York and Washington, DC and is currently establishing an office in Boston, MA. This position will work out of our Boston location, under the supervision of the Executive Director.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EMC is looking for a Director of Communications and Engagement with proven experience in communications strategy, as well as the ability to build and nurture a community dedicated to supporting EMC's mission and goals.

The Director of Communications and Engagement will drive engagement across stakeholder groups (e.g. partners, community, influencers, consumers, activists) using a holistic strategy that encompasses digital, communications, and special project/events. This person will create and implement the strategy and marketing plans around key campaign moments, ensuring scalability and metrics for success measurement. This person will also lead research and analysis for EMC that measures the health and impact of the organization and depth of engagement and awareness and develop tools and case studies demonstrating EMC's value to partners. This person will focus on each of these areas, with the goal of increasing awareness of the Every Mother Counts campaign amongst the general public, increasing web and social media traffic, driving activity around key campaigns, outreach efforts and managing the strategy for maintaining the Every Mother Counts website. The position will work in close collaboration with EMC leadership, social media, and partnerships staff.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Developing a holistic "engagement strategy" (encompassing creative, communications and marketing strategies and campaigns) to generate and increase awareness about EMC and its mission/messaging and assess the most effective ways to reach EMC's target audience.
  • Mobilizing EMC's constituents to take action through meaningful engagements across a variety of media.
  • Utilizing EMC's digital presence to attract new supporters, grow EMC's audience and implement EMC's campaigns online.
  • Managing the relationships with EMC's communications and digital personnel and agencies.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day communications activities (including digital).
  • Setting the strategy for and leading the maintenance of the EMC website both in terms of design and content.
  • Setting the strategy for the editorial calendar as per the organization's goals.
  • Overseeing the PR agency, all EMC media materials, press materials (releases, kits, etc.) and approving all external press releases and speaking points.
  • Working in concert with the PR agency for traditional media and digital placements, increasing and retaining media relationships and proactively pitching EMC.
  • Developing new ideas for feature stories, placement and new media relationships.
  • Managing EMC's presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs, seeding content into social applications as needed and encouraging dialogue amongst the community.
  • In collaboration with the Partnerships Manager, working closely with corporate partners and their functions to engage employees in supporting EMC's efforts and achieve media coverage of cause-marketing campaigns.
  • Arranging public appearances, lectures, contests, or exhibits to increase awareness of maternal health issues.
  • Responding to deadline driven press inquiries, setting up interviews, and responding to information requests.
  • Pitching media at EMC branded events including securing celebrities or other notable figures to enhance EMC press opportunities.
  • Monitoring all EMC coverage and providing regular reports of all EMC coverage, impressions and contacts.
  • Developing monitoring and evaluation metrics to measure success in outreach efforts.
  • Planning and directing the development and communication of EMC's accomplishments to supporters.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE
  • Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media or a related field required
  • At least 7-10 years experience working on internet-based campaigns, particularly for corporate or issue advocacy
  • Strong project management and ability to self motivate and direct
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants and how they can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Strong knowledge of blogging ecosystem relevant to maternal and child health and enthusiasm to engage and build relationships within the community
  • Superior writing and editing skills

At the Family Planning summit in London in July 2012, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Gates), the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the US Agency for International Development (USAID), national governments, donors, civil society, the private sector, the research and development community, and others from across the world came together to support the right of women and girls to decide, freely and for themselves, whether, when and how many children they would have. The Summit called for unprecedented global political commitments and resources from implementing governments and pledges of US$2.6 billion from donors that will enable 120 million more women and girls to use contraceptives by 2020. Reaching this goal could result in over 200,000 fewer women and girls dying in pregnancy and childbirth and nearly 3 million fewer infants dying in their first year of life.
A key outcome of the Summit was the development of Family Planning 2020 (FP2020). FP2020 was created to support the achievement of the overall Summit goal and the individual commitments made by enhancing the work already being done. Led by an 18-member Reference Group, guided technically by Working Groups, and operated daily by a Task Team, hosted by the UN Foundation, FP2020 strives to advance access to family planning information, services and contraceptives under the guiding principles based on rights, choice, equity and voluntarism .
THE POSITION
FP2020 is seeking a temporary employee to serve as a Communications Associate to support the FP2020 Task Team and implement the objectives of FP2020. The Communications Associate will provide communications and public relations support on activities related to FP2020.
Reporting Relationships
  • The Communications Associate will report to the Senior Communications Director, Campaigns and Initiatives and work closely with the Executive Director, Women, Girls, and Population and the FP2020 team.
All activities undertaken by FP2020 will engage and coordinate with existing architecture (ex. Every Woman Every Child and the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health) and are expected to build upon and reinforce the work of key partners such as UNFPA.
The Communications Associate will be based out of the UN Foundation's offices in Washington, DC. This is a staff person who will represent the UN Foundation externally and must work diplomatically with partners, be strategic, and have the ability to multi-task and work efficiently. The Communications Associate will work full-time (40 hours per week) for approximately six months.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists the FP2020 team to implement and further strategic communications plans
  • Draft documents such as media advisories, press releases, talking points, articles, and web and email communications;
  • Assist with the creation of presentations, preparing communications materials and providing onsite support for events;
  • Work with FP2020 Stakeholders to develop on-line content for the FP2020 website;
  • Work with the Public Affairs team and FP2020 staff to keep branding and messaging consistent on and offline;
  • Attend relevant events as needed and report back to the team;
  • Provide general support including maintaining press lists, editorial calendars, and media clip reports;
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ACTIVITIES
In addition to having a proven ability to carry out the above responsibilities, the successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • A minimum of 2 years in communications and/or public relations and media relations;
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Communications, Writing, International Relations, or Politics;
  • An interest in and passion for global campaigns related to international development issues;
  • A basic knowledge of new media including blogs, social networking and online news outlets;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication a must;
  • Ability to learn quickly, juggle projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines;
  • Sound judgment and attention to detail a must;
  • Familiarity with UN, international, and nonprofit issues a plus;
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress;
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with experience. Actual salary will depend on qualifications and anticipated contribution to the Foundation.
UNF pays 100% of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance premiums for its employees and 75% of medical and vision for employees' dependents.
