RESPOSIBILITIES
  • Drafting and updating educational materials or assisting with original research.
  • Responding to calls and emails from people seeking help and information.
  • Working on youth peer leadership initiatives such as our Girl Scouts and Young Women's workshops, Young Men's Mentorship Program, and domestic violence college tour

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • A background in sociology, psychology, gender studies, and other relevant social sciences.
  • Experience presenting and/or educating about intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, sexual harassment, or other social justice topics such as gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, or intergroup dialogues.
  • Experience locating and analyzing social science research online.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, delegate and work independently.
  • Effective verbal, math, and written skills.
  • Experience working with computerized databases and word processing.
  • Strong attention to detail.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To build the community's capacity to respond to and prevent domestic and dating abuse and violence by replacing attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that perpetuate violence with those that promote safety, justice, and equality for all. It works to strengthen community knowledge and skills, educate service providers, foster coalitions and networks, and change practices and policies that condone violence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Develop annual work plan for elementary, middle, high school and community college domestic violence prevention education and training that supports the mission and needs of the organization.
  2. Assist in the development and review of school curricula.
  3. Present organizationally-approved domestic violence and dating violence programs in BucksCounty schools.
  4. Maintain up-to-date statistics and other research for use in presentations.
  5. Collect and report statistics for elementary, middle, high school and community college presentations.
  6. Present trainings at area hospitals and healthcare facilities.
  7. Assist in youth, direct service, or other volunteer trainings.
  8. Participate in public events, speaking engagements, exhibits, workshops, promotions, and conferences to increase awareness of domestic and dating violence, and to promote access to services by expanding the visibility and impact of A Woman's Place in the greater community.
  9. Prepare for and provide follow-up to presentations, including picking up and returning needed materials and/or equipment.
  10. Represent A Woman's Place in the community.
  11. Participate in A Woman's Place events.
  12. Maintain a valid driver's license and current car insurance, as driving county-wide is a position requirement.
  13. Participate in staff development activities as directed and approved by the Education & Training Manager.
  14. Participate in necessary day-to-day activities required for optimal department operations as determined by the Education & Training Manager.

DESCRIPTION

The temporary Training Project Assistant & Relief Advocate is a member of Love is Respect and is supervised by LIR Shift Leads and the Volunteer and Training Manager.

The temporary Training Project Assistant/Relief Advocate will assist the Volunteer & Training Manager with projects as needed such as developing dating and domestic violence curriculum, creating Power Points and presentations, facilitating domestic and dating violence training, and facilitating webinars to a national audience. The temporary Training Project Assistant & Relief Advocate will also provide crisis intervention, referrals, information and solutions to incoming calls and chats through the loveisrespect.org website. This position requires a high level of empathy and sensitivity to all incoming inquiries. This position is a 25 hour per week position.

Minimum of six months of training, public outreach or community education required.

LIR is a 24/7, 365 days of the year operation. Some positions require night, weekend, and holiday scheduling. This position is a temporary part-time position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

TRAINING

•Train new and existing advocates -- must be available some weeknights and Saturdays to help conduct trainings •Help develop new trainings •Must be dynamic and engaging & must be able to train large groups of people •Able to create visually appealing PowerPoints •Must have good writing skills and be able to create facilitator guides and develop new trainings •Needs to be able to learn technical aspects of training, including projector and laptop set-up, and facilitating webinars through iLinc to a national audience

RELIEF

•Accepts calls and chats from victims and/or the general public. Provides referrals to local services; provides information/education about domestic violence. •Accepts calls and chats from service providers; networks with service providers; receives updated service directory information from service providers. •Places out-going conference telephone calls to service providers to advocate for LIR callers' needs; refers unresolved problems between service providers and LIR callers to Helpline Shift Leads; documents contacts and results. •Advocates shall maintain standards of conduct that are empowerment-based and nonjudgmental; Advocates shall respond to all calls and chats in a professional manner with a tone of calmness, sensitivity, empathy and non-judgment; Advocates shall respond to all calls and chats with accurate information; Advocates shall make effective and efficient use of time and information for each LIR call and chat session. •Collects demographic information on all calls (including TTY calls), enters caller's needs and options discussed into computer program; documents referrals given to callers; maintains data entry records for worker activity codes. •Respond to caller's requests for domestic violence materials (i.e. Brochures, flyers, posters, handouts and other promotional materials). •Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

•High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of Word for Windows and Access preferred. •Ability to work shifts which will provide coverage for loveisrespect during operational hours24/7 hours, 365 days per year including holidays. •Ability to attend required meetings (including, but not limited to, Program Team and In-Service trainings), which may be scheduled during hours outside of the Advocate's regular schedule. •Ability to manage time and complete multiple activities within a time frame. •Demonstrated ability to manage high stress situations. •Ability to work as a team member, providing support and constructive feedback in interpersonal interaction. •Commitment to feminist and nonviolent perspective and behavior and willingness to work in such an environment. •Demonstrates initiative and the ability to be flexible and creative. •Ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. •Ability to adjust work hours to requirements of the organization including occasional overtime as needed. •Ability to respond with empathy and support to victims in crisis situations and with sensitivity and awareness to diverse cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds, values, attitudes and languages. •Commitment to concept of local, community, volunteer-based delivery of human services by domestic violence shelters and teen dating abuse agencies. •Commitment to LIR program philosophy.

•Ability to read, write and converse in English, available to travel overnight occasionally and tolerate prolonged sitting or standing. Requires bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds, with or without accommodations and to effectively work long and at times odd hours while maintaining a sense of humor. •Must have emotional and physical stamina to deal with a variety of stressful situations, including responses to complaints and internal and external interactions. Availability for local, state, national and international travel.

DESCRIPTION

The Family Violence Law Center (FVLC) is working to end domestic violence in Alameda County. Our holistic approach integrates violence prevention with comprehensive intervention services. We also work to address and change barriers for survivors within the legal, health, education, and criminal justice systems. As one of California's oldest agencies serving abuse victims, FVLC is recognized as a leader for delivering exceptional services and advocating for long-term social change regarding violence. Since 1996, FVLC's Youth Program has educated middle and high school students on dating violence prevention throughout Alameda County. The Youth Program has also recruited, trained and developed high school students to become peer educators for younger students.

OVERVIEW

The Youth Organizer will be responsible for identifying and training youth leaders to be educators and organizers working to increase understanding and take action against dating violence in the context of community violence. This person will reach out to networks of individuals and organizations to ensure Oakland youth have opportunities to be change agents in their communities in order to end violence. The Youth Organizer should be firmly grounded in social justice theory - specifically, popular education - have strong community organizing experience, and must be excited at the prospect of growing with our organization as we move to increase community engagement. The primary goal of the Youth Organizer will be to support Oakland youth and community members to make the connection between community violence and teen dating/domestic violence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Youth Organizing
 Identify, outreach to, and connect with youth within various Oakland communities.
 Train youth to be peer leaders and support initiatives that both end violence and support positive community-level change.
 Partner with youth leaders to design and implement campaigns to change school policies concerning teen dating violence.
 Coordinate meetings, events, and activities for youth and allies.
 Work with youth to develop and deliver culturally relevant youth education, dialogue and organizing.
 Provide technical assistance around youth leadership development and teen dating violence prevention to external community partners.
Program Management
 Work with the project Curriculum Consultant and the Youth Program Manager to create and implement youth leadership development activities.
 Work with the Youth Program Manager to ensure services provided have the desired impact on participants.
 Work with the project Evaluation Consultant and the Youth Program Manager to determine the best data-tracking methods and then use these methods to track participants and progress towards achieving identified goals/benchmarks.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Experience with youth and/or community organizing and engagement.
 Familiarity with Oakland strengths and challenges, its neighborhoods, and institutions.
 Excellent group and individual communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to apply these skills across a range of relationships and environments, including with youth, colleagues, and external partners.
 Belief in youth capacity for leadership. Knowledge of youth development models and experience supporting the leadership development of youth.
 Desire for and comfort with young people taking the lead. The Youth Organizer must be able to motivate youth and support their self-determination while also creating and enforcing systems of accountability.
 A demonstrated commitment to social justice, peace-building, equity, and the eradication of dating and domestic violence from our communities.
 Experience engaging multiple stakeholders in collaborative processes for collective impact.
 Understanding an analysis of the systemic nature of oppression, particularly the intersection of gender, race, sexual identity, and class.
 Comfort working in low-income communities of color.
 Ability to be flexible and creatively adapt to challenging situations.
 Experience with popular education preferred.
 Bilingual and bicultural preferred (Spanish - English).
 Valid California Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle.

Research & Policy Intern

Research and Policy Interns gain hands-on experience working with Policy and Technical Assistance staff.

  • Contributing to the development of written products to assist schools and community-based organizations improve their response to young survivors of abuse.

Legal Intern

Legal Interns gain hands-on legal and public policy experience with a law-based, domestic violence organization.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Supporting Staff Attorneys in the delivery of free legal services to young victims of dating abuse, including client intake, safety planning, case preparation, court accompaniment and drafting legal documents.
  • Conducting legal, legislative and policy research with the aim to write on various domestic violence, family, criminal and general public interest law issues.
  • Assisting with the creation of advocacy and educational materials.
  • Responding to requests for help and maintaining our nationwide referral system.

Policy Intern

Policy Interns gain hands-on public policy experience working with Policy and Technical Assistance staff.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Managing and expanding Break the Cycle's social media presence.
  • Creating teen friendly web content, blogs and help resources.
  • Crafting digital media content for YouTube and online advertising.
  • Assisting communications staff with various PR projects.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Assisting with Break the Cycle events, including logistics, silent auction coordination and PR.
  • Individual donor research and outreach.
  • Assisting with other fundraising and community relation efforts including our volunteer program, press kits, data entry, social media outlets and other duties as needed.

Development Intern: Grants & Research

Development: Grants and Research Interns learn what it takes to fundraise, write grants and conduct research for a national nonprofit organization.
Responsibilities may include:

OUR WORK
Break the Cycle is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage, educate and empower

JOB SUMMARY
The Web Developer is responsible for updating and maintaining Break the Cycle’s web sites. Job duties include updating and maintaining web sites, creating and editing themes, designing and implementing features and other projects as necessary. The Web Developer reports to the Digital Strategies Manager.

This position is based in Los Angeles. Telecommuting is negotiable.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Updating and maintaining Break the Cycle’s web sites. This includes: updating Drupal core versions
and modules, updating/creating themes and templates and fixing bugs and errors.
• Creating new interactive features for Break the Cycle’s web presence, including liaising with vendors
as appropriate.
• Assisting Break the Cycle staff in updating of Break the Cycle’s various blogs and web pages.
• Building various web sites in Drupal, including migrating existing sites and creating new ones.
• Backing up site databases and files.
• Installing new modules and writing custom code if necessary.
• Coordinating with Break the Cycle staff and outside vendors to ensure projects are completed in a
timely manner.
• Ensuring cross browser compatibility on all projects.

• Coordinating social media frequency and content with Digital Strategies Manager to ensure growth and engagement.
• Developing and updating static content on breakthecycle.org by coordinating with staff tasked with
developing interactive content, updating content, copy-editing and responding to market research.
• Compiling, drafting and copy-editing content for other projects including public awareness campaigns, online and print marketing materials, media outreach tools and others as needed.
• Supervising and mentoring interns, providing edits and feedback.
• Working with vendors including PR, graphic design and web development consultants.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in a relevant college or university program.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, html, css. Drupal proficiency preferred.
• Project management experience and skills preferred.
• Video editing and Adobe Design Suite proficiency preferred.
• Self-starter with strong attention to detail.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work productively with diverse groups of people and independently.

Break the Cycle is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage, educate and empower
youth to build lives and communities free from domestic and dating violence.

JOB SUMMARY
The Graphic Designer is responsible for designing online and print-based materials for organizational use and public outreach. Job duties include creating overall design assets, branding and graphics for our web sites, social media platforms, public awareness campaigns, online and print materials and special events. The Graphic Designer reports to the Digital Strategies Manager.

This position is based in Los Angeles.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Elevating the public face of Break the Cycle through creating, adapting and deploying design assets
for breakthecycle.org, loveisrespect.org, loveisnotabuse.org, teenDVmonth.org and their respective
social media presences.
• Providing graphics and/or images for Break the Cycle’s various channels.
• Updating handouts, flyers, palm cards, brochures, handbooks and other resources available online to
ensure they match current branding guidelines and contain up-to-date content.
• Drafting design mockups in a quick and efficient manner.
• Developing design ideas and concepts into polished, professional looking designs.
• Coordinating with Break the Cycle staff and outside vendors to ensure designs fit guidelines created
in-house and by outside vendors and are completed in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in a relevant college or university program.
• Proficiency in Adobe In-Design, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
• Experience designing for print and web, particularly for non-profits or cause-based campaigns.
• Photography experience preferred.
• Knowledge of commonly used print sizes and ability to successfully design for print with bleed/crop
areas.
• Knowledge of different color spaces and their uses.
• Basic HTML/CSS knowledge preferred.
• Demonstrate strong skills in project management, attention to detail and independent project
implementation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work productively with diverse groups of people and independently.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and stay organized.
