MORE / LESSDESCRIPTION
We get girls off the street and into school in one of the poorest slums in the world in Liberia, West Africa. We work with community leaders to identify the girls who are at the highest risk of being sexually exploited to ensure that education and opportunity, not exploitation and poverty, shape their lives. We work with the school and community to make it impossible for them to fail.
Having just won the Chase American Giving Awards, More Than Me is at an exciting tipping point in its organizational and programmatic evolution – and YOU can be a part of it!
As we grow and expand our services in Liberia, the Country Director will be responsible for all aspects of in-country programs. The Country Director must be able to lead and oversee in-country staff in the design and delivery of quality programs. The duties of this position include staff management; organizational development; community building; developing and maintaining relationships with key partners and governmental officials; compiling various program, financial, and donor reports; and managing in-country funds in accordance with More Than Me's procedures. The position reports directly to the founder of More Than Me.
The Country Director will have the ability to interact with staff and third parties (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, while remaining organized, flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. A high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong and creative decision-making ability and attention to detail are equally important.
More than anything, this person has to genuinely care about More Than Me's mission and understand the startup non-profit environment. A little laughter in a tough time can go MILES!
A last note from More Than Me's Founder:
We can't stress enough that whoever you are, you must be driven (entrepreneurship-type personality). Times get tough in Liberia and if you're not self-motivated and resilient, you'll be crushed. On the other hand, a self- motivated, strong candidate can move mountains! We regularly work with the Liberian government, other NGO partners - both Liberian and non-Liberian, community members (including pimps), as well as major donors. We work with really difficult issues (such as child prostitution). The candidate has to be mentally strong and able to show compassion, and someone who can speak to the girls so they understand you AND speak in NGO terms to other audiences.
It's a fun challenge for the right person!
