Are you an enthusiastic leader with experience developing innovative programming and partnerships in Africa to advance women’s rights?
Crossroads International is currently seeking a bilingual Team Leader to lead its women’s rights programming in West and Southern Africa.
Reporting to the Director of Programmes and working closely with other members of the Programme and Management Teams, the Team Leader, Women’s Rights will provide leadership to a small team dedicated to promoting equality and advancing the rights of women and girls. With a proven track record of success and strong leadership skills, you will build upon best practice to implement and scale up programming with partners in West Africa and Southern Africa to reduce violence against women and girls; to increase women’s political representation and participation in decision making; and, to increase women’s economic autonomy. You will ensure that Crossroads’ programmes, including the Volunteer Cooperation Program, remain responsive, innovative and focused on results. You will also collaborate with other members of the management team to implement strategic directions and achieve organizational goals.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years progressive experience in a management position, including supervision of staff;
- University degree or equivalent in a related field;
- Good knowledge of relevant international instruments related to women’s rights and of rights based approaches to development;
- In-depth knowledge and experience in the area of women’s equality and women’s rights programming. Specific programme experience addressing violence against women and girls and promoting women and girls’ leadership and economic development, preferred;
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, initiative and creativity;
- Collaborative working style with experience in leading team-based initiatives;
- Overseas work experience in the implementation of sustainable development programs, and developing international organizational partnerships; preferably in Africa.
- Experience in results-based management and program monitoring and evaluation;
- Strong planning and proposal-writing skills and previous experience securing and managing project grants
- Knowledge of women's movements internationally and of women's organizations in Canada preferred;
- Experience working with international volunteers and knowledge of best practice in international volunteering;
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills;
- Demonstrated competence in the use of computer software and communication tools: word-processing, spread-sheets, databases, internet and e-mail;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including in a cross-cultural context;
- Fluent written and oral communications in English and French essential;
- Ability to travel overseas and in Canada and be away from home for frequent short periods
Position Type: Full Time, one year contract with the possibility of renewal.
