VAMOS Unidos, a membership based, non-profit organization in New York City, is pleased to announce an opening for aGrantwriter position.
Position Title: Grantwriter
Hours: 25 hours per week
Term: August-December 2012*
  • Followed by opportunity to become a full-time staff member in January 2013.
The grantwriter is a part-time position until the end of December 2012, with an opportunity of being a permanent and full-time position upon successful completion of this provisional period at VAMOS Unidos. The person will work approximately 25 hours per week as a Grantwriter; followed by the opportunity to work 40 hours per week as a Grantwriter and Administrative Assistant beginning in January 2013.
Salary: $15-20/hour, commensurate with experience
Benefits: Upon successful completion of three-month provisional period

VAMOS Unidos (Street Vendors Mobilizing and Organizing in Solidarity)
 is a social justice organization founded in the Bronx, NY by low-income Latina immigrant street vendors to organize immigrant workers for economic and racial justice, immigrant rights, and police accountability. We organize over 500 members from across four boroughs in New York City. Our mission is to develop an empowered base and leadership of immigrant workers who are politically conscious, economically self-sufficient, and able to win change on local and national policies by understanding the root cause and connection of our struggles with those in other communities. Our programs consist of three areas: Organizing Campaigns, Leadership Development, and Membership Services. These programs are successful in training low-income women and families to organize and advocate for their rights as immigrant workers.
About this Position: VAMOS Unidos seeks a grantwriter who will be responsible for foundation fundraising. The grant writer will co-create and implement a fundraising plan for VAMOS Unidos with the following benchmarks and outcomes in a seven or eight month period:
Key Responsibilities in fundraising over an 8 month period:
  • Research a minimum of 4 prospective foundations and funders per program each month
  • Write a minimum of 72 LOI’s (Letters of Intent) and 24 full grant proposals with a 33 % success rate at the minimum (4 successful grant applications for every 4 months at the minimum)
  • Assist staff in maintaining a Google Grants Calendar and Activities Report Calendar. Coordinate a monthly sit down meeting with Executive Director to monitor and ensure timeliness of applications, reports in relation to prospective and past grants.
  • Provide coaching in the implementation of one annual fundraising event.
  • Track and acknowledge donations from funders and individuals.
  • Conduct a mid point and a project end evaluation, reflection and planning for year 2013 fundraising.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year prior successful grant-writing experience in a similar non-profit setting
  • Demonstrated ability to produce successful fundraising outcomes and meet fast-paced timelines
  • Self-directed, able to juggle multiple tasks and roles at a small yet dynamic and growing non-profit organization
  • Commitment and passion to social justice issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge on immigrant and worker rights issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent and demonstrated oral and written communications skills
