MORE / LESSDESCRIPTION
The Center for Court Innovation, a project of the Fund for the City of New York, is a unique public-private partnership that promotes new thinking about how courts and criminal justice agencies can aid victims, change the behavior of offenders, and strengthen communities. The Center creates demonstration projects that test new approaches to problems that have resisted conventional solutions.
The Center’s problem-solving courts include the nation’s first community court (Midtown Community Court), as well as drug courts, domestic violence courts, youth courts, mental health courts, and others. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research on topics of justice reform and provides consulting services to criminal justice innovators.
The Center’s department of Youth Justice Programs seeks a Program Associate for the Greenpoint Youth Court, an innovative program that serves as an early intervention program for youth who have committed low-level offenses such as shoplifting, graffiti and truancy. These youth appear before a jury of their peers; and the jury assigns sanctions to allow the youth to repair harm done to the community and to link them to services. The Program Associate assists with all aspects of youth court operations including recruitment, training, and selection of youth court members, and helps to facilitate, document and manage all youth court referrals and sanction compliance. The Program Associate will also assist the department of Youth Justice Programs on particular projects, such as hosting conferences and events, developing written resources, and conducting policy research.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist in the daily operation of the youth court.
- Assist with the recruitment of participants for youth court training and membership.
- Assist with the training of members and, together with the youth court coordinator, facilitate and organize the 40 hour youth court member training.

- Assist in developing and coordinating community service projects for respondent youth.
- Closely monitor and track compliance of respondent youth and prepare compliance reports for referring agencies.
- Supervise administrative aspects of hearing and training schedules.
- Provide support for youth court members during trainings and hearings.
- Assist in the coordination and planning of special events.
- Assist in conducting outreach to community based organizations to support the function and growth of the program.
- Perform other supportive tasks and functions as assigned by the youth court coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Excellent organizational skills, oral communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and solve problems creatively.
- Experience working with high school age youth.
- Experience with or knowledge of the juvenile justice system preferred.
- Word-processing proficiency required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) highly preferred.
