DESCRIPTION

API Chaya formed in 2011, when the Asian & Pacific Islander Women & Family Safety Center (1993) and Chaya (1996) merged into one organization to better serve Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes in Washington State. We are a dynamic and growing organization with a strong emphasis on mobilizing communities to find solutions to end violence.

API Chaya has grown tremendously over the last two years and is seeking a Development Manager, a newly created position. This opportunity is perfect for a dynamic, community-oriented fundraiser who is committed to social justice and wants to work within an inspirational organizational culture. This person should be an initiative-taker who can work as part of the leadership team in a fast paced work environment to plan, implement and manage fundraising activities related to growing organizational revenue.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors in planning and implementing a comprehensive fundraising campaign to meet organizational revenue goals
  • Update and implement API Chaya's development plan. Take leadership in executing the plan, with a focus on securing funding from individual donors, corporations, businesses, unions and other sources.
  • Implement strategies to significantly increase and manage API Chaya's portfolio of individual donors. Conduct active prospect research, design and implement tailored individual donor solicitation and cultivation plans. Support Board in their cultivation efforts.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with current donors, sponsors, funders, and business and community leaders. Develop new prospects in each category.
  • Work in partnership with Board and volunteers to successfully implement fundraising events, including the Annual Auction & Dinner and October Birthday Celebration. Oversee implementation of event workplan. Mobilize volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Work in partnership with Board and volunteers to implement workplace giving campaigns. Build strategic relationships with corporations to maximize employee giving.
  • Develop strategies for online and social media fundraising initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent communication with all donors, including donor acknowledgements, statements, annual appeal letters, organizational updates, invitations to special events etc.
  • Manage and ensure the accurate maintenance of records and donor information in the donor database
  • Represent API Chaya by attending events in the community and make presentations, as needed
  • Provide development reports on a regular basis to Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of and a deep demonstrated commitment to working for social justice strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional fundraising experience in a non-profit
  • Experience and proven success in designing, executing, and rolling out a comprehensive fundraising plan, that includes annual giving, multi-year giving, major gifts, corporate, union, and foundation fundraising components.
  • Knowledge of development principles, fundraising strategies and ethics, and familiarity with donor tracking systems (preferably SalesForce) and online communication (preferably Vertical Response, Twitter, Facebook, and Wordpress/Joomla/SquareSpace)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and lead a small team
  • Strategic thinker with ability to manage short term and long term plans and goals, with record of achieving results.
