DESCRIPTION


For 40 years, the National Women's Law Center has led the way in expanding the possibilities for women and girls in our country. The Center uses the law in all its forms: getting new laws on the books; litigating ground-breaking lawsuits all the way to the Supreme Court; and educating the public about how to make the law and public policies work for women and their families. The Center's experienced staff takes on the issues that cut to the core of women's and girls' lives in education, employment, health and reproductive rights, and family economic security, with special priority given to the needs of low-income women and their families.
THE POSITION
The National Women's Law Center seeks an Outreach Associate, Health and Reproductive Rights to help engage advocates at the national and state levels to improve policies that affect the lives of women and their families.
DUTIES
The Outreach Associate will work across several program areas to implement outreach strategies that support NWLC's work on health and reproductive rights. S/he will support federal and state advocacy work to implement the health care law, protect access to family planning and abortion, and work on many other issues to improve the lives of women and their families. In addition, the Associate will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience helping execute cutting-edge and exciting campaigns (past campaigns have included Being A Woman Is Not A Pre-existing Conditionand I Will Not Be Denied).
The Outreach Associate will be part of the Outreach Team in NWLC's Communications Department and will report to the Director of Outreach for Health and Reproductive Rights.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assisting in the implementation of effective, creative, and dynamic campaign strategies, messaging, and production of related engagement activities and materials, both through online strategies and traditional offline field organizing.
  • Supporting state and federal advocacy by coordinating regular communications with advocates and coalition members and developing opportunities for recruiting new advocates.
  • Coordinating development of online content, including writing action alerts, blog posts, fact sheets, and other advocacy material.
  • Managing the logistics of advocacy conferences, rallies, meetings, webinars, conference calls, coalition sign-on letters, and related events.
  • Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 2 years of related professional experience.
  • Experience of grassroots organizing (online and offline) and progressive campaigns.
  • Very strong writing skills; experience writing action alerts is desirable.
  • The ability to work well with competing priorities, meet deadlines, and manage approval processes involving multiple people.
  • Demonstrated experience and judgment working both collaboratively and independently.
  • Online savvy; experience with social media and eCRMs (Convio), HTML, Drupal desirable.
  • A commitment to progressive women's issues.
