The Housing and Economic Justice Advocate is responsible for providing direct assistance to individuals impacted by intimate partner violence (IPV) in the areas of affordable housing and consumer education. The Housing and Economic Justice Advocate will work closely with the program coordinator to provide support, information and advocacy services designed to enhance the safety and economic security to our clients. 
Such services include: 
  • Assist clients with housing, employment and education applications
  • Coordinating and advocating with housing authorities, property owners, and other service providers to secure safe and affordable housing
  • Assisting clients with budgeting and financial planning
  • Conducting financial education workshops
The position requires demonstrated case management skills and a strong commitment to advancing opportunities for DVCC clients. Competitive candidates will possess excellent oral and written communications skills and the desire to work at an organization that is fast paced, desires critical thinking abilities, is data responsive and recognizes the value of coordinated care across services and systems. Ability to collect data, maintain service records, complete reports accurately and submit in a timely manner and an ability to facilitate groups and conduct presentations a must. Candidate must have drivers license and reliable transportation, and also be able to lift 30 pounds. Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
This is a part-time position for 20 H/W to be paid at an hourly rate of $18.00 to $21.00.

South Asian Case Manager/ Advocate 
(Full Time Position, 35 hours/week)
Position is within our Community Based Services Program located in Boston and primarily serves local clients; thought services extend throughout Massachusetts to provide needed services to victims, survivors and their children. Hours are typically weekdays, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with possible after hours and weekend work. This position reports to the Community Based Services Manager.
ATASK's mission is to prevent domestic violence in Asian families and communities and to provide hope to survivors. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for victims, survivors and their children and will work as a team member of ATASK to provide comprehensive services to the Asian and general community.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide culturally competent, trauma informed services to victims or domestic violence
  • Provide direct services to clients: including safety planning, crisis intervention, case management, and advocacy
  • Assist and accompany clients (and their children) to court, legal appointments, health care, public benefits, social/community agencies relative to client short, and long-term stabilization goals
  • Provide service and supportive counseling in client's native language as needed
  • Accurately and effectively, provide translation and interpretation on clients (and children's) behalf as needed
  • Make referrals, network, and directly advocate with other agencies to assist clients in achieving safety and stabilization goals
  • Conduct intake, assessment, and goal planning with clients
  • Maintain current and accurate records of services update database and prepare periodic reports
  • Attend staff meetings, supervision, case meetings, and trainings
  • Answer hot line calls: ascertain caller's needs; provide supportive listening, crisis intervention, safety planning, information about domestic violence, resources and inter-agency and external referrals
  • Participate in the Silk Road Gala and other fundraising events as needed
  • Represent agency at meetings with community collaborators and other community events as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Fluency (speaking, reading and writing) in English and Nepali .
  • Be understanding, sensitive to, and have empathy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • At least two years of prior case management experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with domestic violence, sexual assault, or trauma preferred
  • Knowledge of health care, legal, education, work force development, mental health, and child systems preferred
  • Ability to work with survivors and/or their children in crisis situations
  • Committed to ending a culture of domestic violence
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Working knowledge or MS office suite
  • Valid driver's license preferred, and access to a vehicle, not required

JOB SUMMARY

The Employment Counselor is responsible for guiding clients in transitional employment with the social enterprise from preparation for permanent placement through retention of their future job. Through one on one counseling, referrals, and workshops, the Employment Counselor will help employees prepare a professional job kit and secure permanent employment. Post placement, the Employment Counselor is also the primary administrator of the retention program – Solutions to Success – and future alumni outreach and activities. Reporting, documentation and administrative tasks related to their clients is also part of the job. The position reports to the Manager, Workforce Services and is non-exempt and part of SEIU 1021.
The Workforce Development and Social Enterprise department of the non-profit Community Housing Partnership (CHP) identifies, prepares, trains and employs formerly homeless individuals interested in returning to work as front desk clerks in residential hotels in San Francisco. Our program provides comprehensive services to enable individuals disconnected from the workforce to return to productive work with a career path. Program Participants receive training, an opportunity for 18 months of transitional employment, and permanent placement assistance through the CHP Employment Pathway.
AGENCY DESCRIPTION
Community Housing Partnership helps homeless people secure housing and become self sufficient. To achieve this mission, Community Housing Partnership develops and operates high quality permanent affordable housing with comprehensive property management and on-site support services. Community Housing Partnership currently owns and/or operates twelve housing sites that serve formerly homeless adults and families and has three new projects in the pipeline. Community Housing Partnership also engages in community and economic development through its certified job training programs, a community organizing project and a social enterprise that employs formerly homeless adults. Community Housing Partnership is financially stable with an annual operating budget of approximately $22 million. The organization has an outstanding staff of over 270 people, over half of whom were once homeless.
During the past four years, Community Housing Partnership experienced a reorganization of its internal operations to better manage its growth and to refocus its services on long-term impacts and outcomes. CHP is currently undertaking a repositioning of its programs and services to align with a newly developed "theory of change" model that will be implemented over the next four to six years, with the support of a committed foundation. PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Employment Counseling
    • Work with individuals in one on one counseling sessions, through referrals, and workshops to create and execute well developed and evolving career plans

    • Guide all social enterprise employees through creation and completion of a Job Kit (resume, cover letter, interviewing, references)
    • Assist clients in applying for and obtaining permanent employment
    • Enroll and encourage client participation in all aspects of retention program including support modules and milestone rewards
    • Assist in the development, maintenance and improvement of retention program based on client feedback
    • Participation in support of future alumni programming
    • Assess and make recommendations about applicants readiness for external employment with SE/WS team
    • Supply barrier removal funds to clients as needed within budget parameters
    • Adapt personal style to meet needs of students and the needs of clients
    • Stay current on new resources, information, job development techniques that might benefit clients
    • Model professional work behaviors at all times for clients
      • Collaboration
    • Provide feedback to Trainers, Case Managers and Enterprise Supervisors on clients' progress toward permanent employment
    • Make recommendations about forward progress or additional training/coaching needed on an individual basis
    • Participate in case conferencing and interview panels as requested

    • Responsible for enrollment and tracking of clients in the retention program

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Minimum 2 years prior case management experience
    • Experience in employment services, social services or equivalent experience
    • Experience with vocational counseling among formerly homeless and high barriers to employment required
    • Ability to organize the job search process in a series of practical, achievable steps
    • Strong written and verbal skills
    • Experience in motivational interviewing techniques strongly preferred

    WPA is currently recruting for a Mentee Advisor in the WomenCare program. WPA's WomenCare program is changing from working with women incarcerated on Rikers Island to women in state prison. This position is responsible for recruiting, screening, and enrolling eligible women incarcerated at Bedford Hills or Taconic State Correctional Facilities shortly before their release to community-based volunteer mentors, for facilitating pre- release group-level interventions for enrolled clients, and for helping clients develop transitional plans to support their community reentry through connection to post-release resources and services.
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Facilitate outreach sessions for potential clients at Bedford Hills and Taconic Correctional Facilities to market WomenCare to eligible potential clients.
    • Conduct initial screenings and intakes for clients, identified to potentially benefit from mentoring services
    • Administer validated gender-responsive Risks/Needs Assessment to participants to identify each woman's individual risks and strengths for enrollment prioritization and for service plan development.
    • Deliver group-level independent living skills workshops to women currently incarcerated to further engage potential clients and prepare them for successful reentry.
    • Deliver group-level curriculum-based cognitive behavioral intervention, Seeking Safety, to currently incarcerated women in support of improved coping skills for past trauma and substance abuse.
    • Coordinate, in partnership with other community-based staff, mentor/mentee outings and structured socialization outings/special events
    • Provide one on one advising and referral to needed services for pre and post release clients participating in the mentoring program
    • Serve as primary liaison for clients throughout the mentor/mentee commitment
    • Collaborate with WomenCare Coordinator to match potential mentors with clients based on mentor matching tool to facilitate effective mentoring relationships
    • Assist pre-release clients in the development of transitional plans to promote successful reentry either directly or in collaboration with Corrections Department or other discharge planners.
    • Maintain small caseload of transitional planning clients being released from State Correctional Facilities to New York City communities.
    • Connect clients to critical services post-release such as public assistance, housing, and health and mental health services
    • Conduct regular follow-up with clients under community supervision or receiving case management services at WPA or elsewhere to track client progress towards goals and obtain outcome information for reporting purposes.
    • Conduct scheduled interviews with program participants to collect federally-mandated GPRA data
    • Maintain written records of all program activities and client interactions for monthly statistical reporting

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • High School Diploma/GED required, Bachelor's or Associate's degree strongly preferred
    • minimum two years of relevant service provision experience
    • Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills, with experience facilitating manual driven curriculum based interventions strongly preferred

    • Experience in clinical settings or with substance abuse/mental health populations
    • Familiarity with issues related to women involved in the criminal justice system required; past work or volunteer experience with population preferred.

    FUNCTION

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    2. Participate in, as needed, initial, ongoing and system-wide training for all staff whose duties are related (direct & indirect) to crisis services.
    3. Assist with administrative functions for Sexual Assault Treatment Services; facility, clerical support.
    4. Provide Family Violence Shelter crisis phone coverage as required.
    5. Obtain educational and promotional material for distribution via the media and brochures for clients.
    6. Ensure that SANE waiting room is fully equipped with up to date materials for Relief Crisis Counselors and food/drink/clothes/toys for clients.
    7. Work with program evaluation tools collecting and processing data for all reports as required.
    8. Assist with establishing and maintaining liaison with community groups and agencies in order to promote SART and encourage utilization of SATP services.
    9. Perform other functions as needed or assigned.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. Valid driver's license, vehicle and proof of insurance.
    2. Current First Aid and CPR certification.
    3. Willing and able to travel around the island for meetings.
    4. Willing and able to travel off-island for training and meetings.

    The Second Step (TSS) seeks to break the cycle of domestic violence, one family at a time, by providing services to individuals & families that enable them to remain free from abusive relationships & live successful lives. Those individuals & families who enter our program have successfully taken the first step away from domestic violence. TSS provides support & advocacy services to connect them with a broad range of services, referrals, including education & employment training, permanent housing search, mental health & addiction services, legal services, parenting support & community advocacy support.
    Mission statement: The Second Step, in partnership with survivors of domestic violence, creates safe, supportive community, identifies choices and builds foundations to transcend abuse.
    Primary Objectives: Implementing case management & advocacy services within the philosophical framework of the agency including trauma-informed; strength based, relational & empowering practice.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Case Management/Advocacy
    • Provide case management & advocacy services for 4 families (unless otherwise determined by supervisor) including child assessment & child goal plan development. 
    • Develop service plans with residents that address a variety of needs such as medical, legal, educational, employment benefits, & behavioral health; work closely with other residential staff to assist families in obtaining their goals; actively engage in networking with community service providers to locate programs & resources that support resident goals. 
    • Liaison & advocacy with community service providers to secure resources & provide services for children/families including: day care, summer camp, school after school, parent education, counseling, legal & health care. 
    • Each resident coordinator shares in the responsibility of the scheduling interviews of prospective program participants; review of transitional housing application, checking references & orientating new participants to the program once admitted. 
    • In collaboration with other Resident Service Coordinators, plan and schedule TSS Family Programming to include psycho-educational workshops, seminars with outside providers.

    2. Housing Advocacy
    • Provide housing advocacy & case management services to assigned families including budgeting counseling. 
    • Assist families in obtaining financial resources for housing expenses related to acquiring permanent housing. 
    • Develop & maintain positive working relationships with Housing Authorities. 
    • Coordinate program participant's moves to permanent housing. 
    • Ensure 'bridge meeting" is scheduled with Community Advocate prior to participant scheduled move out date.

    3. Community Building
    In collaboration with other residential staff, create a nurturing, supportive environment that facilitates families to build resilience & develop beyond the trauma they have experienced. This involves setting expectations & implementing policies, practices & systems that sustain safety & growth. A piece of this work is monitoring the environment for breaches to psychological &/or physical safety & intervening appropriately. Co-facilitate community meeting for residents once a week in the evening.
    Other Responsibilities
    · Attend & actively participate in weekly team meetings & agency wide staff meetings.
    · Attend individual supervision
    · Represent TSS at community events & forums as needed.
    · Provide child-care as needed.
    · Coordinate special events including holiday celebration for TSS program participants & other special events for residential clients as needed. Coordinate annual summer reunion & backpack drive with community program staff. Provide support for holiday gift drive.
    · Participation in on-call rotation. (compensation provided)
    · All other duties as assigned by Senior of Residential Programs or Executive Director

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Applicants must be bilingual (English/Spanish). In addition, the ideal candidate will have: 
    • 2-3 years experience working with survivors of domestic violence and/or homeless families & individuals in residential and/or community based programs. 
    • Knowledge of issues related to domestic violence, trauma, mental health & addiction with a particular emphasis on how these issues impact families is essential. 
    • Knowledge of issues related to child development & parenting is valuable. 
    • Life & employment experience are considered as valuable assets.

    THE POSITION
    Reporting to the Domestic Violence Department's Shelter Manager, the Shelter Advocate provides peer counseling, crisis and case management, community referrals and domestic violence education to individuals and families residing in the YWCA Silicon Valley's confidential emergency domestic violence shelter. The Shelter Advocate conveys empathy, respect, and compassion when delivering services. You are a member of a high-performing team who supports all activities related to the coordination of daily operations, including but not limited to room readiness, distribution of food and supplies, basic site maintenance, conflict resolution, crisis management, client accompaniment and direct advocacy. The Shelter Advocate must not fail in effectively communicating survivor needs to the team and/or any non-compliance of shelter guidelines. To ensure safety, you must not fail to respond effectively to safety threats, conflicts and crisis situations.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and reliable individual with a high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Essential to this role is a demonstrated ability working with culturally and economically diverse individuals and families; a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment and to respond appropriately to unexpected situations.

    SUMMARY

    Provides basic case management, advocacy and emotional support to adolescents and adults engaging in or at risk of engaging in prostitution, intravenous drug use and other behaviors which put them at risk for HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. Determines clients eligibility for case management and non case management. Responsible for filling out, discussing and reviewing the initial intake packet with all office and outreach clients. Establishes informal/formal linkages with service providers delivering necessary services to our target population. Provides individual counseling and pre and post HIV test counseling. Arranges for the provision of health and concrete emergency services. Maintains current case files and performs follow-up on all individuals serviced by the Program. Organizes and facilitates weekly case conferences with Outreach Staff and establishes and facilitates client discussion/support groups.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Requires BA in Social Work or equivalent. Requires at least 3 years experience in providing case management services to multi-problem youth and disenfranchised population. Must be sensitive to cross cultural differences and issues related to sexual identity. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.

    Salary details: 33,000 - 35,000

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Identifies African American pregnant women through outreach in the community and referrals from agencies and enrolls them in the appropriate services of the program.
    • Publicizes the program to the community through one-on-one contact, health fairs and other special events.
    • Maintains ongoing contact with pregnant women by telephone and home visits to provide emotional support, health information and referrals to health care and social services.
    • Serves as the pregnant woman's advocate and accompanies her to health and social service agencies, in accordance with program protocols.
    • Provides support to women experiencing challenges such as depression and domestic violence.
    • Conducts screenings and assessments of program participants to aid in identifying their needs.
    • Assists families in applying for and maintaining health insurance coverage.
    • Encourages women to attend pre-natal and parenting classes, support groups, and other special events.
    • Maintains complete and accurate records related to the delivery of program services, using a variety of manual and electronic data gathering tools.
    • Assists Manager with coordinating and/or facilitating prenatal, parenting and other education programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's Degree in social work or other relevant field; Associates' degree in relevant field and two years of relevant work experience; or a total of four years relevant work experience may be substituted.
    • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance with liability coverage.
    • Proven ability to build, and/or history of, strong involvement in local community organizations.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Intermediate computer skills (e.g. Keyboarding, Windows, Internet Explorer) including ability to enter and track participant data.
    • Must be detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills.
    • No criminal or child abuse history as determined by a criminal background check and child abuse screening.

    MRNY is hiring for 2 positions: 1 Full time (40 hours/week) enrollment specialist in Brooklyn and 1 full time (40 hours/week) enrollment specialist in Staten Island.

    Legal and support services at Make the Road NEW YORK:
    The Department of Legal and Support Services at Make the Road New York works to strengthen Make the Road's organizing work by (1) helping to envision and implement leverage strategies (including strategic litigation) that help win our organizing campaigns; (2) providing technical legal support for policy work; and (3) providing legal and support services to draw in new members and help meet the immediate needs of MRNY's active members.
    CURRENT OPENING
    • Advise consumers on eligibility for premium subsidies and public health insurance programs, like Medicaid and Child Health Plus
    • Enroll consumers into public and/or private health coverage in the New York Health Benefit Exchange
    • Help consumers choose an appropriate qualified health plan
    • Educate consumers on their benefits and responsibilities under the Affordable Care Act
    • Make sure all applications are accurately completed and submitted on time, adhering to submission deadlines
    • Maintain thorough case records of services provided, advice and/or referrals
    • Schedule and maintain appointments with potentially eligible consumers
    • Meet productivity and quality performance targets
    • Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings
    • Conduct community outreach to potential enrollees

    REQUIREMENTS
    • Experience: A minimum of one year experience providing assistance to consumers and/or advocates on health insurance and health care access issues
    • Experience conducting outreach to recruit eligible participants in large numbers
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in public health, public administration or a related field
    • Fully Bilingual (Spanish/English)
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
    • High level of accountability and initiative; needs to be a self-starter and eager to do team work to support the organization as a whole

    DEPARTMENT
    CYPD Technical Unit The Child and Youth Protection and Development (CYPD) 
    Technical Unit works towards the protection and development of children and youth and consists of three sectors; Child Protection, Education and Youth & Livelihoods. Together these sectors promote the wellbeing of children and youth through working across a child's or youth's environment with families, communities, civil society, markets and government and through safe and developmentally appropriate programs across age groups. The Child Protection sector works towards preventing and responding to abuse, exploitation and neglect of children. The IRC believes that strong child protection systems are essential to ensuring that children are safe, cared for and have access to services and support. As part of its 5 year strategic, the Child Protection sector is investing in "social workforce development and support" as a priority with a specific focus on timely, quality and coordinated case management practices.
    PURPOSE 
    The Child Protection Technical Adviser will be responsible for advancing the work on case management for children. This includes tool development, country support, interagency coordination and fundraising. This position will reports to the Senior Technical Adviser for Child Protection. This is a maternity cover starting on 1st October 2013 for a period of 9 months, with a possible extension to 12 months.
    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Lead and grow child protection technical priority of 'Case Management':
      • Manage TU-level grants and work towards securing further funding for this area of work
      • Identify and develop relevant partnerships for this area of work
      • Develop tools and products for this area of work, thereby integrating the IA CP IMS, BID and CCS
      • Participate in the work of the IA CP IMS Steering Committee
      • Coordinate inter-agency work on case management as part of CPWG work plan
        • Manage the consultants supporting IRC in this work
        • Finalize the training materials for case management
        • Finalize the guidelines for case management
        • Identify potential funding opportunities for the CM taskforce work into 2014-15
    • Support country programs starting or already implementing case management
      • Provide remote and/or in-country technical support and guidance to country programs, with a specific focus on case management and case management related work.
      • Provide technical review and support to country programs in proposal development, donor reporting and donor relationships as appropriate
    • Contribute to other tasks advancing the global CP team:
      • Represent CYPD/CP in external meetings
      • Liaise with other technical units as appropriate
    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
    • Minimum of Master's Degree or equivalent in social work, social sciences, law, psychology, education or other related field
    • At least five years experience in managing or implementing international relief programs in the child protection sector
    • Strong background in case management practice and direct experience on the IA CP IMS
    • Experience in developing guidelines, procedures and writing reports and technical materials
    • Excellent communication, leadership, facilitation and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work effectively at multiple levels and with multiple stakeholders
    • Budget management skills
    • Ability to work independently and balance multiple tasks
    • Willingness to travel up to 30% of time, potentially to insecure areas
