Catholics for Choice is seeking a savvy state policy wonk to join our domestic program. This is an opportunity to be part of a successful and fast-paced nonprofit with a close-knit staff of passionate individuals who share a commitment to reproductive choice, justice and true religious liberty.
If you are committed to advancing abortion rights and access across the United States, thrive on relationship-building and working in coalition toward concrete policy change, are intellectually curious and a creative problem-solver, have an affinity for the minutiae of policy work and are especially fond of the curious charm that is a state capital, you'll be a great fit.
The associate will work closely with the other members of the domestic program staff to:
  • keep the organization and colleagues up to date on state-level policies affecting women's reproductive rights and access to services and threats to individuals' religious liberty
  • provide advice and technical assistance regarding prochoice Catholic perspectives on policymaking concerning these policies
  • educate the public, policymakers and the mediaabout Catholic support for women's autonomy in reproductive health decisions;
  • foster and sustain relationships with advocates, collegial organizations and leaders in states and at the national level; and
  • raise the voices of prochoice Catholics across the country in critical policy debates and policymaking on women's health, reproductive rights and religious liberty concerns.
The position is based in Washington, DC, will include regular travel and require public speaking to a variety of audiences.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of two years of successful professional experience in policy analysis, advocacy and outreach. S/he will possess excellent organizational and time-management skills; be discreet, diplomatic and open-minded; demonstrate impeccable verbal and written communication and have an unwavering support for a woman's right to choose. Knowledge of Catholicism and professional experience working with a state-based, progressive policy organization or in a state legislature are desired.
