Position Description
The Manager of the Women in Entertainment Mentoring Program will oversee the planning and execution of all aspects of the program for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBSLA). S/he will oversee and execute: (1) the recruitment and competitive application process for potential mentees, (2) develop and maintain relationships with school partners and liaisons, and liaise with the program partners, namely The Hollywood Reporter, as well as Loyola Marymount University (LMU), (3) screen the potential mentors recruited in partnership with The Hollywood Reporter, (4) provide guidance and match support to each mentor-mentee match throughout the WIE program, (5) collaborate with BBBSLA staff to provide college and career resources to the mentees throughout the year and execute associated scholarship program, and (6) coordinate the logistics of the WIE program execution.
About the Women in Entertainment Program (WIE Program)
Launched in 2009 in partnership with The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the WIE Program offers a select group of young women from some of Los Angeles' most vulnerable communities an unprecedented opportunity to receive one-to-one mentorship from the most successful women in the entertainment industry. The WIE Program launches annually at the Power 100 Women in Entertainment Breakfast hosted by THR. Mentors and mentees meet twice a month for a calendar year at the offices of their mentors. Transportation is coordinated by BBBSLA. Individualized professional support is provided to each mentor, mentee and family throughout the length of each match to support the development of each relationship, and the safe and positive growth of each young woman participating in the program. College preparation programming, including SAT preparatory courses, college and career preparation seminars, and a college day at LMU's campus, are coordinated for the WIE mentees throughout the year. Thanks to the generosity of Lifetime through A&E Networks, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, each young woman is awarded a $10,000 scholarship to support their pursuit of higher education upon completion of the WIE Program.
ESSENTIAL JOB ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of the WIE program in collaboration BBBSLA leadership.
  • Act as liaison with program partner, THR, for all WIE program activities.
  • Responsible to recruit, interview and select mentee participants working in conjunction with high school partners and The Hollywood Reporter annually.
  • Responsible to screen all potential WIE mentors annually.
  • Responsible for maintaining WIE program data systems reflecting goals, completions, and overall progress.
  • Manage WIE scholarship grants in collaboration with BBBSLA staff to ensure all obligations are met.
  • Responsible to help build strong and productive working relationships with entertainment executives represented in our WIE program.
  • Collaborate with BBBSLA staff to bring college and career preparation resources to the WIE mentees throughout the WIE Program to ensure readiness for higher education and access via the WIE Scholarship Program.
  • Through scheduled in-person and telephone contact, ascertain that the elements of child safety, match relationship development, positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction are fulfilled and that potential problems and barriers are identified and addressed as early as possible. Promptly notify supervisor regarding concerns, which may negatively influence the match.
  • Document and monitor all elements of match support and supervision.
  • Ensure high-level proficiency and good judgment in applying child safety and risk management knowledge, policies and procedures throughout all aspects of job function.
  • Develop strategic interventions to identify and strengthen match relationships that require extra support to continue to grow.
  • Establish, monitor and meet goals for match length and customer satisfaction. Utilizing SOR and YOS to assess match impact on youth development.
  • Conduct exit interview with all parties at match closure. Assess reasons for match closure and re-match potential Bigs and Littles that are approved to remain active.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Marketing on all media and entertainment opportunities, and video or other story telling opportunities.
  • Share with development and/or marketing staff any potential partnership relationships as discovered through volunteers' and parents' employers and affiliations.
  • Identify and promote re-engagement of mentors and mentees as Bigs, board members, donors and in other volunteer capacities.
  • Participate in all Agency staff and team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by agency leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred in related fields: Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Education, or related fields along with significant life experience working with at-risk youth and low-income communities.

Working Location: Location is based on a percentage of where work time is spent. Indoors--85%. Travel (local) – 15% - job requires local travel to communities, corporations and educational institutions. Occasional out-of-state travel to applicable approved conferences.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Youth Law Academy (YLA) Program Coordinator reports to the YLA Program Director and provides administrative support for the YLA, primarily in the areas of student data tracking, financial aid education, teaching of curriculum, coordination of activities, and mentorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assisting with the planning and coordination of various events including financial aid education, Mock Trial, Swear-in Ceremony, YLA Retreat, SAT Test Prep course, mentor mixer, law office visits, and professional development series;
  • Working with Program Director to recruit students to the Youth Law Academy by conducting outreach to local high school freshmen and presenting on the A-G course requirements;
  • Working with Program Director to coordinate a team of mentors who include judges, attorneys, and college students;
  • Assisting with Cash for College nights and community financial aid advising workshops;
  • Tracking and managing student information including community service hours, personal profile, financial aid application progress, academic progress, and mentorship activities;
  • Create culturally sensitive Individual Action Plans with students and parents;
  • Coordinating and executing after-school programming for high school students. Programming includes Foundations in Law courses, Mock Trial exercises, life skills seminars, peer support, and leadership development; and
  • Assisting students with problem solving and crisis management.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA degree;
  • Bilingual Spanish-English preferred;
  • Familiarity with Project-Based Learning methodology preferred;
  • Familiarity with legal concepts preferred;
  • Demonstrated minimum 1 year experience working with Financial Aid Advising to high school seniors and undergraduate students;
  • Demonstrated minimum 1 year experience working with low-income urban youth;
  • Experience working with a diverse client and staff population;
  • Ability to bring strong, sustained energy and creativity to working with youth;
  • Passion for YLA's mission;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal to moderate supervision;
  • Ability to work until 6:30pm during the weekday and occasional weekends;
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with great interpersonal and communication skills; and
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Salary and Benefits: Salary starting at $36,000-$40,000, commensurate with experience, plus medical and dental benefits and a generous vacation and holiday package.

We are looking for a Program Specialist who will manage all aspects of one of our women's health programs focused on the quality of care in hospitals.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receive and guide requests through each stage of the program including: coordinating business agreements, effectively communicating data with the appropriate internal and external parties, processing and maintaining evaluations, copyediting, and providing administrative support.
  • Update and maintain program materials and databases including forms, reference manuals, hospital code sheets, worksheets, and training resources.
  • Support the committee by assisting in the development of the agenda, compiling agenda books, preparing reports and minutes, and implementing committee decisions.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new members, nurses, medical writers, and other health care professionals as reviewers and plan/implement training sessions.
  • Serve as the medical writer/team administrator as part of the review team on about two site visits per year as needed. Coordinate all site visit preparation with the hospital coordinator and medical records coordinator. Communicate with review team members in advance of site visit to ensure all site visit logistics have been confirmed. Accompany team on site and record all information that will be included in the final report and assist the team as they interview hospital members and conduct the chart review. Draft the site visit report with input from the review team and continue to coordinate the report editing process.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategy, including creation of all marketing materials and coordination of booth exhibiting at association conferences.
  • Develop working knowledge of the College's resources and guidelines. Become familiar with the College's publications in order to understand the College's guidelines for caring for women. Research health care sources to proactively gather relevant reference information to be included in the report.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor degree is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, and experience with research, statistics, spreadsheets, and tables is essential. Experience with medical databases, such as Medline are also essential.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting management, HTML/website management is required.
  • Previous program management experience required. Medical association experience is desirable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word and Excel.
  • Excellent written communication and editing skills while managing multiple projects;
  • Must be able to work extended hours on planned meeting days (730am-830pm).
  • The position requires travel 5% of the time, including some weekends.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds. Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to prepare boxes for shipping, file documents or store materials.

JOB SUMMARY

Provides customer service to adult volunteers in the subject areas of recruitment, training and appreciation. Supports the work of the department through organizational and administrative tasks.

PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES
  • Receives telephone calls and emails and exercises strong customer service skills and professional judgment in responding to, or transferring, volunteer inquiries.

  • Maintains the inventory of office equipment, supplies and training course materials and places orders, receives orders and verifies charges.
  • Participates in a schedule to relieve the reception desk, to work on council-wide data entry projects, or to assist with other projects as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED plus two years responsible administrative experience or successful completion of business administration program and one year of reasonable administrative experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Strong customer service skills; ability to work in a fast paced environment requiring extensive telephone and public contact.
  • Ability to type 50-60 wpm using a personal computer.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary

Responsible for leading a team that will ensure participating Girl Scouts experience quality program based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). The program and quality should support the organization's strategic plan and program initiatives, and when possible link to National Program Portfolio, such as Journeys.
Responsible for implementing and overseeing the organization's recruitment plans and volunteer support to troops and other girl programs that achieves the annual goals in the region.
Direct the on-going development and delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) regional programming to members; by utilizing community input and volunteer participation that strengthens girl centric programming that provides flexible options for participation.
Supervise assigned staff. Recruit, interview, hire, provide training, and development as appropriate, evaluate, counsel, provide conflict management and discipline as needed, and terminate if necessary. Provide regular one-on-one meetings with staff to ensure goal achievement and timely support to volunteers, conduct staff team meetings. Support staff retention and professional growth.
Actively collaborate with other departments. Engage in open-dialogue, continuous learning, and timely follow-up action.
Provide and ensure superior customer service is delivered through interactive and timely communication with internal and external customers, Girl Scout members and families, co-workers, and community members and contacts. One of the key measurements of successful Girl Scout customer service includes the timely placement of girls and volunteers into troops or other programs.
Create and manage the regional budget that supports the region's goals and work plans.
Direct, advise and coach staff in the managing of volunteer conflicts. Interceding to mediation, when required. Consult and update Vice President of Membership or others, as necessary.

Secondary

Assist Fund Development staff in the identification and cultivation of key volunteers, donors and corporations that strengthens community partnerships that are mission-aligned.
Place a high priority on building relationships within targeted communities, by becoming actively involved and knowledgeable of our diverse racial and ethnic communities. Support the development of cultural competency in staff.
In addition to the above, perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Minimum three years' experience successfully managing or supporting volunteers in direct or indirect program delivery.
  • Minimum four years' experience supervising employees.
  • Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of youth development strongly preferred.
  • Experience in development and administration of budgets and work plans.
  • Excellent customer experience/service skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to be able to work with individuals at all levels and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully working with a variety of racial and ethnic groups strongly preferred.
  • Previous work experience utilizing conflict resolution skills.
  • Availability to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, as necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to work remotely or from a home office, on occasion.
  • Skilled in Outlook, Word and Excel, and familiarity with Access or other database system.

Girl Scouts of Western Washington (www.girlscoutsww.org) is currently seeking a Regional Director to direct and oversee the implementation of an integrated strategy of regional programming, recruitment, volunteer support and retention in King County. They oversee a cross-functional team that ensures that Girl Scouts is marketed and accessible to girls and adult volunteers. The Regional Director ensures that Girl Scouts offers fulfilling, fun, and flexible experiences for the diverse communities of girls and volunteers in King County.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary

Responsible for leading a team that will ensure participating Girl Scouts experience quality program based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). The program and quality should support the organization's strategic plan and program initiatives, and when possible link to National Program Portfolio, such as Journeys.
Responsible for implementing and overseeing the organization's recruitment plans and volunteer support to troops and other girl programs that achieves the annual goals in the region.
Direct the on-going development and delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) regional programming to members; by utilizing community input and volunteer participation that strengthens girl centric programming that provides flexible options for participation.
Supervise assigned staff. Recruit, interview, hire, provide training, and development as appropriate, evaluate, counsel, provide conflict management and discipline as needed, and terminate if necessary. Provide regular one-on-one meetings with staff to ensure goal achievement and timely support to volunteers, conduct staff team meetings. Support staff retention and professional growth.
Actively collaborate with other departments. Engage in open-dialogue, continuous learning, and timely follow-up action.
Provide and ensure superior customer service is delivered through interactive and timely communication with internal and external customers, Girl Scout members and families, co-workers, and community members and contacts. One of the key measurements of successful Girl Scout customer service includes the timely placement of girls and volunteers into troops or other programs.
Create and manage the regional budget that supports the region's goals and work plans.
Direct, advise and coach staff in the managing of volunteer conflicts. Interceding to mediation, when required. Consult and update Vice President of Membership or others, as necessary.

Secondary

Assist Fund Development staff in the identification and cultivation of key volunteers, donors and corporations that strengthens community partnerships that are mission-aligned.
Place a high priority on building relationships within targeted communities, by becoming actively involved and knowledgeable of our diverse racial and ethnic communities. Support the development of cultural competency in staff.
In addition to the above, perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Minimum three years' experience successfully managing or supporting volunteers in direct or indirect program delivery.
  • Minimum four years' experience supervising employees.
  • Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of youth development strongly preferred.
  • Experience in development and administration of budgets and work plans.
  • Excellent customer experience/service skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to be able to work with individuals at all levels and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully working with a variety of racial and ethnic groups strongly preferred.
  • Previous work experience utilizing conflict resolution skills.
  • Availability to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, as necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to work remotely or from a home office, on occasion.
  • Skilled in Outlook, Word and Excel, and familiarity with Access or other database system.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritizes deadlines, work independently, take initiative, highly organized, and maintain confidentiality in a fast paced and challenging work environment.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license, vehicle in working condition, proof of insurance, or the ability to fulfill timely and extensive travel requirements across widespread regional geography.
  • Satisfactory results from criminal background search.
  • Willingness to maintain membership in Girl Scouts.

DESCRIPTION

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the largest socialist organization in the US, and an affiliate of the global Socialist International, seeks an organizer for its youth division, the Young Democratic Socialists (YDS). The position includes work for both DSA and for our affiliated 501(c)3, the Democratic Socialists of America Fund.
YDS is an organization of campus-based chapters and regionally-based groupings of younger (under 30) socialists who wish to develop a political and cultural space of their own, yet one that is an integral part of DSA. The organizer works out of DSA's national office in New York City and travels throughout the United States to speak to both new and experienced YDS campus chapters, as well as to independent progressive students interested in learning about democratic socialism.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Organize an annual winter outreach conference and an annual summer conference for current members and chapters, in collaboration with the elected and volunteer leadership of Young Democratic socialists (YDS):
  • Recruit new members and assist in the formation of new chapters of YDS
  • Facilitate the ongoing political work of the members and chapters of YDS
  • Provide staff support, especially leadership development, for YDS
  • Represent YDS at conferences and meetings of other radical activists
  • Participate in meetings of the DSA National Political Committee and serve as a liaison between YDS and DSA's locals and commissions
  • Report to and assist DSA's National Director as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Be grounded in democratic socialist politics and history; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of YDS and DSA
  • Experience organizing campus, labor, political, or community-based groups and events
  • Excellent public speaking, communication, writing, and computer skills
  • Strong time management skills and ability to use limited resources effectively
  • Thorough understanding of academic settings, politics, and calendars at secondary and post-secondary levels
  • Ability to work effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to feminist, anti-racist, and anti-heterosexist principles and action
  • Willing and able to travel extensively around the United States on a moderate budget
  • Available to start work in New York City by mid-June of 2013 (or earlier in June if possible).

OVERVIEW

NCRW is a network of leading university and community based research, policy, and advocacy centers with a growing global reach dedicated to advancing rights and opportunities for women and girls. NCRW harnesses the collective power of its network to provide knowledge, analysis, and thought leadership on issues ranging from reducing women's poverty to building a critical mass of women's leadership across sectors.
A key member of the NCRW senior management team (reporting to the President), the VP for Member Relations & Programs leads the Council's member relations initiatives and manages relationships with key constituents (Member Centers, Corporate Circle, and Presidents Circle members) to enhance the mission of NCRW and its programs. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who can independently translate organizational vision into an effective member engagement strategy and conceptualize, develop, implement, and evaluate all NCRW programmatic events and projects in order to ensure that strategic goals are met.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish and maintain relationships with NCRW Member Centers, Corporate Circle, and Presidents Circle members to support the advancement of the organization's mission and strategic objectives and build networks across sectors and develop access to a broad range of relevant voices in order to effect change on a larger scale (this will require travel, in-person meetings, phone calls and attendance at off-site events and convenings).
  • Create policies and procedures for the Member Relations & Programs department, including feedback mechanisms to maintain excellence in service delivery to NCRW members, and processes to ensure that member issues are quickly identified, rectified and utilized for improved policies for the future.
  • Lead and direct all recruitment plans and strategies related to new members ensuring a comprehensive orientation strategy, sound justification and allocation of resources and the development of new services and activities that add value for members.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate all aspects of a large national annual conference (content, outreach, recruitment, and logistics) and smaller regional and monthly events and webinars.
  • Collaborate with the development team to secure foundation and government grants, including the development of program narratives and budgets.
  • Serve as a principal representative of and spokesperson for NCRW with diverse stakeholders, including members, government officials, corporate partners, community organizations, media and the public.
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of relevant trends, developments and issues relating to the advancement of women and girls, including the work and publications of NCRW's constituents, to ensure that all written work is authoritative and contemporary.
  • Direct the development of content for print materials and electronic communications, translating the work of NCRW's members for public education purposes, and ensure all written work is timely, accurate, relevant and tailored to target audiences. Create and monitor production schedules to ensure timely production of print and digital publications. Work with External Relations to ensure effective and timely dissemination plan.
  • Collaborate with External Relations to create a Speaker's Bureau.
  • Oversee and manage the annual Member Center Awards process (outreach, application management, correspondence).
  • Supervise staff and interns, oversee their professional development.
  • Manage outside consultants and contractors.
  • Provide support for relevant committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as an active part of NCRW's senior management team, and work to ensure the effective flow of communication within the NCRW's broad network.
QUALIFICATIONS
The VP for Member Relations & Programs will be a self-directed, proactive individual with superlative written and verbal communication skills. An effective listener with strong personal integrity, the incumbent will have superior strategic and tactical planning and organizational skills.
  • A Masters degree in a relevant field (e.g. public policy, gender studies, sociology, nonprofit management)
  • 8-12 years program management experience in roles of increasing responsibility and proven ability to develop and manage work plans and budgets.
  • Large conference and event management experience and expertise in project management and development and implementation of production schedules.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and coalition building skills with an ability to balance, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; high level of knowledge and understanding, especially as it relates to program replication, connecting programs to funding, creatively generating other resources, and building strategic partnerships.
  • A determination to solve complex problems with an eye on the details of those solutions.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a diverse environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and ability to network comfortably and effectively in both public and private sectors.
  • Flexibility, patience, a willingness to take on multiple tasks, efficiency, a friendly disposition, sense of humor, and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest and commitment to women's rights and feminist issues .
  • Experience in a member organization preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in (or ability/willingness to learn) software as needed e.g. Constant Contact, Donorperfect and various survey software tools.
  • This position requires willingness to travel locally and nationally (33%); available for late evening and weekend work as necessary
