The New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is seeking a Lead Organizer. AVP envisions a world in which all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), and HIV-affected people are safe, respected, and live free from violence. AVP's mission is to empower LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities and allies to end all forms of violence through organizing and education, and support survivors through counseling and advocacy.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The New York City Anti-Violence Project is looking for an energetic and experienced individual to support the coordination of AVP's community organizing and public advocacy department. This person will supervise front line staff, develop community organizing campaigns, co-coordinate the Community Leadership Institute at AVP, oversee all outreach, and support in rapid incident response efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to campaign development, supervision, training, facilitation, coalition coordination and outreach. Work may include night and weekend hours.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory:
  • Supervise, support and evaluate Community Organizing and Public Advocacy (COPA) organizer and program associate.
  • Attend department meetings and other departmental staff engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with Co-Director of COPA to create, implement, and monitor departmental procedures and staff development plans.
Program Development and Coordination:
  • Work collaboratively with the Co-Director of COPA to:
    • follow and analyze policies and trends that impact AVP's public advocacy, community organizing, and client services programming.
    • create and maintain internal systems to increase the efficiency and impact of COPA's programs.
    • develop organizing strategies to respond to incidents of violence.
    • co-coordinate the Community Leadership Institute with COPA staff.
  • Work collaboratively with COPA and Client Services to co-coordinate the Speaker's Bureau
  • Create and supervise AVP's base building plans and goals.
  • Create volunteer leadership structures to further the work of AVP's campaigns.
  • Conduct campaign development research.
  • Develop and evaluate COPA organizing and advocacy campaigns with COPA staff.
  • Participate in movement building activities related to AVP's mission.
  • Attend community meetings, staff meetings, AVP events.
  • Develop and facilitate trainings including rapid incidence response, base building, leadership development, and campaign development.
  • Support staff to develop brochures, toolkits, and flyers on LGBTQ hate violence, sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and police violence.
Administrative:
  • Track grant deliverables and report on government and foundation activities as needed.
  • Attend professional development in-service trainings and external trainings/seminars as appropriate/indicated.
  • Attend regular staff and department meetings.
  • Attend AVP events.
Organizational Relationships
  • Reports to the Co-Director of Community Organizing and Public Advocacy
  • Works closely with staff in the Community Organizing and Public Advocacy Department, the Client Services Department, Legal Services Department and the Communications and Development Department.
Other Duties as Directed by Supervisors
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2 years of Community Organizing and Public Advocacy supervisory experience including: conducting performance evaluation, and promoting professional development for staff.
  • 4 years Community Organizing experience including campaign development, base building, leadership development, facilitation, training development, coalition coordination, and campaign based research.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team of professionals with diverse experience and skill sets.
  • 2 years of project management or project coordination experience including reporting on government and foundation activities, program design and implementation, and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anti-oppression and social justice frameworks.
  • Excellent computer skills, database experience, and knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain clear professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrated professional experience with LGBTQ and HIV affected communities and LGBTQ and HIV-affected violence prevention.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working to end violence within and against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-affected communities.
Preferred Qualities and Skills:
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Quantitative and qualitative research experience.
  • Coalition coordination experience.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal legislative processes.
  • Experience with varied organizing and advocacy models.
  • Experience with rapid incident response organizing.

Program Interns work closely with the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice's Program Team to learn about and contribute to our support of over 130 grassroots LGBTQI groups around the world. Program Interns receive training and guidance on our progressive grantmaking model and learn about LGBTQI, feminist and social justice movements globally. Interns can expect to be involved in a variety of aspects of Astraea's grantmaking, capacity building and leadership development, and philanthropic advocacy programs, including:
  • Researching conditions experienced by LGBTQI communities in the U.S. and internationally;
  • Drafting grant summaries for review in grantmaking decisions;
  • Responding to inquiries from potential applicants;
  • Producing written and visual content about Astraea's programs and grantee partners;
  • Monitoring social media and identifying opportunities to amplify grantee partners' work;
  • Coordinating community briefings by visiting activists;
  • Assisting with grants processing and awards;
  • Translating key documents to facilitate outreach and communication with grantee partners; and,
  • Special projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal candidates for the Program Intern position have a deep commitment to Astraea's work and social justice values, strong writing and communications skills, and experience with LGBTQI, social justice or human rights work. Astraea particularly seeks interns with Spanish or other language proficiency, in addition to English.
TIME COMMITMENT/COMPENSATION
Interns are sought for the fall semester and, if possible, to continue through the spring. Arrangements can be made to work between 10 and 20 hours per week.
Internships, while unpaid, are structured as meaningful learning experiences. Limited transit stipend via metro cards is available and is awarded on a first come first serve basis. School credits are accepted.

Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice (New York, NY) seeks a seasoned grant writer to support our fundraising efforts to fuel a global campaign for LGBTQI inclusion and respect. This grant writer will lead the efforts to secure over $5.5 million in this fiscal year (starting July 1, 2014) in funding from foundations, donor-advised funds, and governments as part of a multi-year, $20-million dollar growth investment campaign, Fueling the Frontlines (www.fuelingthefrontlines.org). The structure for this position is currently flexible: we are looking for between 20 hours/week to full time, and will consider a contract or staff position. This position reports to the Director of Development
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and write grant proposals to foundation and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating Astraea's mission and programs to potential funders.
  • Work in partnership with the Development Associate to assemble and submit grant requests including letters, proposals, budgets, interim and final reports.
  • Manage all foundation applications and reports ensuring compliance with foundation reporting requirements and Astraea guidelines and deadlines.
  • Conduct prospect research to support institutional funding for the campaign.
  • Manage a grants workplan and calendar
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience is required.
  • Ability to seek and synthesize information; and craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner.

The New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is seeking a Part-Time Communications Associate. AVP envisions a world in which all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) and HIV-affected people are safe, respected, and live free from violence. AVP's mission is to empower LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities and allies to end all forms of violence through organizing and education, and support survivors through counseling and advocacy.

The Communications Associate is responsible for assisting AVP's Communications Manager in the key functions of a nonprofit communications department. The Communications Manager will work with you to prioritize project focus, which will include: social media management, website management, graphic design, proofreading and fact-checking, metrics reporting and analysis, data management, press relations and/or other programmatic duties. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Online communications
  • Assist Communications Manager in growing AVP's website, existing social media accounts (incl. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube), and developing new accounts (incl. Instagram, Tumblr)
  • Proofreading and fact-checking Rapid Response Communications including Community Alerts, Press Releases, and event-related communications
Design and layout
  • Creating digital assets for the agency, including photo, video, infographics and related images for use on social media and in print
Traditional and new media
  • Researching traditional and new media sources for pitching, spokesperson preparation, and media outreach
  • Archiving AVP's media coverage
Administrative
  • Assist in preparing departmental reporting information and dashboards
Other
  • Participate in AVP's Board of Directors driven Communications Committee
  • Attendance at agency-wide meetings as necessary 

Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated commitment to AVP's mission
  • The ability to adjust to new situations, remain flexible in a fast-paced work environment, and willingness to take the initiative to attempt unfamiliar tasks are all necessary
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Power Point

DESCRIPTION

The Project Coordinator of Coalition Training & Technical Assistance will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and providing information, training, and technical assistance to domestic violence professionals and coordinating statewide efforts to eliminate domestic violence and improve service provision and collaboration under the supervision of the Director of Training & Services.

  • Coordinate, develop, and provide local, regional, and/or statewide trainings for domestic violence professionals, including domestic violence service providers, health care professionals, child welfare workers, and other professionals.
  • Coordinate and provide information, training, and technical assistance to domestic violence service providers on issues including but not limited to:
  • Underserved populations, such as LGBTQ victims, immigrant victims (including Hispanic and Latino victims; Asian/Pacific Islander victims; and other immigrants), and victims with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
  • Legal service provision issues, such as accessibility of services for LGBTQ victims, victims who have disabilities, and confidentiality issues.
  • Best practices for service provision, including evidence-based programs and trauma-informed services.
  • Conduct outreach to domestic violence service providers, health care professionals, and other types of professionals regarding the availability of training and technical assistance.
  • Provide assistance and support at monthly meetings, periodic seminars, and any forums of the Maryland Health Care Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
  • Develop web content and maintain webpages in Wordpress.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations, fliers, handouts, and other documents and materials.
  • Coordinate, support, and participate in activities related to MNADV committees, which may include Domestic Violence Services and/or Community Partners committees.
  • Provide technical assistance to domestic violence professionals.
  • Coordinate with local and national training and technical assistance providers.
  • Assist in the collection of data for communication and evaluation.
  • Provide support for agency-wide events, such as MNADV's annual Memorial Service, Annual Meeting, and statewide conferences.
  • Coordinate with staff, board members, and partners on project-related and agency-wide activities.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings, weekly training team meetings, and ad hoc meetings.

  • Is an intelligent, quick learner who has a positive, willing attitude and is passionate about domestic violence and who foresees what needs to be done and takes initiative.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree required. Master's preferred.
  • At leastone year of experience at a domestic violence program. Direct service provision preferred.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence and familiarity with domestic violence programs and related laws.
  • Expertise in the field of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and/or women's issues.
  • Effective presentation skills required. Experience as a trainer or educator preferred.
  • Strong computer skills required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Wordpress and Publisher preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Must have a professional demeanor.

The Theater Offensive seeks experienced theater teaching artist to coordinate, manage and teach community workshops, including the Advanced Training Program, for the True Colors Training Studio.
ABOUT TRUE COLORS
True Colors: Out Youth Theater programs use a proven community-based theater approach to train and activate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied youth leaders ages 14-29. True Colors youth present the diversity of LGBT lives in art so bold it breaks through personal isolation, challenges the status quo, and builds thriving communities. Since 1994, True Colors youth have been creating shows about their lives and performing them throughout Massachusetts. The Theater Offensive works with youth leaders to develop comprehensive True Colors programming that engages each participant deeply in our mission. Program components include:
*True Colors Troupe engages youth of all skill levels year-round in theater skills training, devising, touring and production through the Summer Intensive and Touring Troupes.
*True Colors Training Studio offers a full-range of community workshops, including the Advanced Training Program.
*True Colors Creative Action Crew is a troupe of experienced youth that bring True Colors workshops and performances further into the community.
*True Colors Leadership and Inclusion Council equips youth to make decisions about all of TTO's youth-related programming and join the governing bodies of TTO and our community allies.
TRAINING STUDIO
The Training Studio is intended to provide LGBT and allied youth additional opportunities to gain specific theater skills through two tracks of programming, including community workshops and advanced training. The Advanced Training Program provides opportunities for experienced True Colors members, up to age 29, to engage in a higher level of theatrical training. This curriculum will include, but is not limited to an exploration of theater history, technical theater, acting, directing and exploration of more specific theater methodology. The Training Studio will also host workshops with various lengths and subject matter for LGBT youth and allies from the community, as well as youth already enrolled in True Colors programs.
LEAD TEACHER
Start Date: September 1, 2013
End Date: May 31, 2014
Advanced Training Program Duties:
  • Create timeline and plan all activities for the True Colors Training Studio for the 2013 -2014 season
  • Identify, recruit and enroll a diverse group of LGBT and allied students into the program
  • Create and implement lesson plans for weekly classes
  • Contract and set expectations with participant youth; check-in routinely with youth to assess their progress
  • Organize final sharing of work at the end of each training period
  • Organize field trips to local professional productions
  • Manage program budget
  • Administer evaluations to all participant youth and guests artists
  • The Advanced Training Program runs every Tuesday evenings from October 15 – December 17, 2013 and February 18 – May 6, 2014.
Community Workshops Duties:
  • Research, interview, hire and contract appropriate visiting artists for workshops in consultation with TTO staff
  • Manage relationships with visiting artists including contracting, payment and attendance and oversight of their work with True Colors Training Studio youth
  • Assist visiting artists during workshops
  • Community workshops will be held on Mondays in the afternoon and evening from November 4, 2013 – May 30, 2014. This will include up at minimum 7 one-time workshops and 4 workshop series.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 3 years minimum theater teaching experience required, preferably in out-of-school time
  • Experience with program management and oversight, including staff hires, contracting and payments
  • Experience with program planning & curriculum development
  • Experience working with LGBT youth and allies
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Must be available for workshop facilitation sample August 27 or 29, 6-9PM
The candidate should have an understanding of and experience working with youth and young adults ages 14 – 29. Members of the LGBT community, and people of color are highly encouraged to apply.

The Executive Director is responsible for providing organizational leadership to achieve the mission and vision of Out Boulder, to include ensuring the long-term sustainability of Out Boulder. The Executive Director must work closely with the Out Boulder staff and the Board of Directors to achieve the goals of the organization. In addition to responsibilities for the operational, financial and programmatic health of Out Boulder, the Executive Director will play a primary and critical role in pursuing an ambitious fundraising agenda to strengthen and increase the organization's programs and capacity-building efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES
40 - 50% Development (primary role)
• Raise sufficient revenue to meet annual expenses with an eye toward increasing revenues for the organization.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that encompasses Special Events, major donor cultivation, corporate sponsorship, and grant writing.
• Create detailed, realistic annual budgets and monitor revenue and expenses throughout the year in partnership with the Treasurer, reporting to board on a quarterly basis.
20 - 25% Community Relations (primary role)
• Create and maintain strong community connections through strategic alliances and outreach within the community, including to other non-profits and local businesses.
• Serve as primary media contact for the organization and provide direction on messaging.
• Oversee organization's response to significant happenings of importance to the LGBTQ community.
15 - 20% Programs (oversight role)
• Ensure that all programs, including Community Events, maintain consistency with the vision and mission of Out Boulder
• Create and implement a 5-year strategic plan, in partnership with the board, monitoring the organization's short- and long-term goals and objectives.
• Support OB's programs by working closely with staff members and contractors to help develop and achieve program goals.
• Support the development of yearly planning with staff and board.
5 – 10% Communications / Marketing (oversight role)
• Work with staff to develop a cohesive marketing plan that includes consistent strategic messaging.
• Oversee Marketing Manager in the development and execution of external communications.
5 - 10% Human Resources (board and staff support and oversight) (primary role)
• Supervise staff—includes hiring, managing performance, conducting annual performance evaluations and salary reviews.
• Meet with staff on a regular basis to provide clear direction, review performance, and benchmark successes and opportunities.
• Support the operations and administration of the Board of Directors, to include: assisting in Board development; advising and informing Board members; attending board meetings; interfacing between Board and staff; and supporting Board's evaluation of the Executive Director.
• Oversee key volunteers, meeting with them regularly and providing direction, training, and evaluation.

Be a proactive member of the operations team at Center on Halsted (COH), the largest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Community Center in the Midwest. Ensure that the daily activities, events and meetings of the Center run smoothly. Identify, resolve and effectively communicate foreseeable operational problems, particularly infrastructural issues. Assist with the setup of events, including assisting with arranging furniture, checking out equipment and setting up AV systems. Respond to hostile clients and emergencies. Demonstrate cultural competency when interacting with members of the LGBTQ community. When needed, effectively converse with other staff in order to ensure that programs and services are successful. Monitor the performance of and coach the contracted cleaning company, reception, and contracted security. Promptly complete assigned daily activities and directives. Prioritize projects. As needed, complete required paperwork.
JOB DUTIES
Building Maintenance and Routine Duties:
  • Inspect and maintain the overall appearance of the building and grounds; ensure that the building is clean and safe at all times; provide direction as needed to reception
  • Regularly visit the public spaces in the building; address security, cleaning and maintenance issues as they arise; report any such issues in the required daily report
  • Complete morning and closing checklists and other assigned projects; return completed checklist forms to the Director of Operations
  • Monitor the performance of the contracted cleaning company and coach as needed
  • When necessary, conduct minor fixes and repairs to damaged areas throughout building and grounds, including some relevant equipment at COH
  • As needed, setup and conduct post-cleanup for scheduled venues at COH, such duties can include the following: deliver refreshments and food; setup and take-down of bars; move, arrange, and/or remove furniture; setup and take down of AV equipment; general cleaning duties; review of inventory of items used for event; inspect the space of the event for damaged areas; organize and clean areas, etc.
  • Learn and then, demonstrate how to setup and use AV equipment, theatre equipment, gym equipment, and technology including ability to setup laptops, transfer computer files as well as building tasks, e.g. maintaining the gray water system; ability to work without supervision is essential; when necessary, train other staff on these tasks
Communication Duties:
  • Maintain positive communications with other COH personnel and individuals and/or their respective organizations; ensure successful communication with other invested stakeholders, such as individuals/organizations that are interested in renting space at COH
  • As needed, evaluate, prioritize, respond to, and follow-up with the requests of relevant stakeholders so as to (1) ensure successful customer satisfaction, and (2) ensure that all relevant policies at COH are adhered to
  • Communicate relevant problems, particularly infrastructural problems, to other operational staff (such communication will include sending effective emails and by noting them on a "punch list"); as appropriate, take corrective actions to address such problems
  • When necessary, communicate with the contracted cleaning company's administrative designee(s) and/or staff members, along with the operations staff at COH, in order to address and resolve any problems as they relate to the provision of successful cleaning services
  • Communicate to staff and the patrons at COH relevant policies
Duties Related to Responding to Critical Incidents:
  • As they occur, respond to hostile clients and/or other emergencies; at times, participate in mediation meetings with suspended individuals; coach new security staff and ensure expectations are met
  • Be knowledgeable about general building systems and precautions (plumbing, fire, mechanical and electric); when necessary, execute and lead building evacuation procedures
  • Ensure Center clients and patrons adhere to the Center's Code of Conduct policy
WORK WEEK
This part time position offers between 22.5 and 30 hours a week. Normally shifts are 7 ½ hours in length, either opening from 8a-3p or closing from 3p-10p but may vary depending on our needs. Flexibility is critical as we have needs for daytime, nighttime, and weekend shifts. This position is generally scheduled for 3 or 4 days weekly, contingent on needs.

  • Maintain confidential client and referral tracking systems and strict adherence to Centers for Disease Control standards for implementation of CRCS

MAP for Health is a community-based, nonprofit organization that works to improve healthcare access, disease prevention and service delivery for the API community in Massachusetts. Asian Pride (AP) is a youth development program that provides services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. The program serves as an open, safe space for youth ages 16-24 to explore their cultural identities and sexual orientation while building community and leadership skills.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Manager plays a central role in the management, development and coordination of the Asian Pride Youth Program. S/he has an abundance of energy and is fearless in outreach efforts. The Program Manager is not afraid of failure and is constantly searching for areas of improvement. S/he also must enjoy working with youth and acting as a mentor and role model to our young peer leaders and clients.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Grant/Contract Management
  • Manage program budget, resource allocation and reporting requirements
  • Develop and utilize program timelines/workplans to ensure timely completion of deliverables
  • Frequently review program activities to ensure quality, consistency and accuracy of work outcomes
  • Conduct basic risk assessments and screenings
  • Create and facilitate workshops, attend group meetings and trainings
Managerial
  • Provide supervision, training, leadership development and guidance to peer leaders
  • Lead by example, delegate work appropriately, hold peer leaders accountable and provide constructive feedback
  • Foster learning opportunities for peer leaders as it relates to the organization and community
Organization-Wide
  • Identify and develop new outreach opportunities while continuing to market/advocate MAP's programs and services
  • Build and maintain relationships with funders, collaborators, and other community based organizations
  • Participate in MAP strategic planning activities
  • Event planning
  • Represent MAP at various venues throughout the year

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Outstanding communication skills, ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks, organized, efficient, and has effective time management skills
  • Screening, counseling and assessment experience preferred, previous experience working with youth
  • Discreet, uses good judgment and has excellent follow up skills
  • Leadership capabilities with at least one year experience in a supervisory role
  • Understanding of API and/or LGBT community as it relates to health disparities and "at risk" groups, particularly with youth
  • Takes initiative and is able to work independently, but just as well in a team setting
  • Must be flexible, some evening hours are required to facilitate programs/events
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling or related field. Will accept 2 to 3 years experience in lieu of degree.
