The mission of the Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) Program at UCSF is to conduct rigorous, innovative social science research on complex and controversial issues related to reproduction. We are committed to challenging structures of inequity in order to improve reproductive wellbeing. ANSIRH cutting-edge research about reproductive health and abortion care includes studies on the effects of health care regulations and laws governing the provision of abortion care on women and health care providers and the effect of unwanted pregnancy on women's lives. We are seeking a Communications Associate (Analyst II) to fill a contract position to help develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan.
The Communication Associate will work with the ANSIRH Communications Working Group to develop and implement a strategic communications plan to effectively communicate with researchers, advocates and policy makers, funders, the media. The Communications Associate is a position for a talented, driven communications professional who can work well with both faculty and staff, has excellent writing skills, has experience working in the fields of Reproductive Health/Rights/Justice, and is social media savvy. We are seeking someone who can contribute to strategic conversations about ANSIRH's communications priorities, but also manage the day-to-day tasks necessary to support ANSIRH's public presence.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications Working Group to set strategic communications priorities, identify key audiences and develop appropriate messaging
  • Manage ANSIRH's social media presence, including blog, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Be a liaison for program teams and consultants (PR, design firms, programmers, etc) to manage project-level communications project
  • Lead efforts to upgrade and standardize all ANSIRH's public materials, including website, PowerPoint templates, newsletters, etc
  • Design and implement standard communications practices for internal and external communications to ensure ANSIRH produces only high-quality materials
  • Work with the Communications Working Group to develop mechanisms by which to measure the success of various outreach efforts
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, or similar field
  • At least two years' work experience in communications, marketing or PR for reproductive or sexual health organization
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills in-person, over the phone and via email
  • Experience writing for print, web and social media, as well as a robust understanding of and experience using social networking tools
  • Experience initiating and implementing projects and managing results
  • Highly organized, able to multi-task and manage multiple projects, and demonstrated success working in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and meet multiple deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem solving ability
  • Ability to work with people from diverse communities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience using EndNote or other bibliographic management software
  • Familiarity with public health research and experience translating research findings into lay terms.
  • Experience managing external consultants such as graphic designers and programmers
  • Experience using Qualtrics or similar data collection system
  • Knowledge of UCSF systems including BearBuy, MyExpense and Conexxsus
