URGENT VACANCY: Programme Associate-Community Engagement and Counselling

About FAT: Feminist Approach to Technology (FAT) is a pioneering nonprofit organization committed to empowering women through technology. We believe that women can move at par with men in making and using technology and that women can truly feel empowered only when the perceived technological divide has been bridged!

Our Mission The mission of FAT is to empower women by enhancing women’s awareness, interest and participation in technology. We work towards this by breaking societal stereotypes and attitudes, encouraging and enabling women to feel capable and comfortable in working with technology, and collaborating with other women’s organizations to enhance their work by using technology.

About Tech Center:
The Tech Centre is one of FAT’s main initiatives where we work with young girls from urban slums and teach them basic computer skills, Internet, camera and photography skills. Our main Tech Center  is in Lajpat Nagar while there are, and will be Tech Centers in other parts of India run in partnership with local organizations. The classes are interspersed with workshops on women’s rights, feminism, sexuality and various other important and relevant issues. Tech Center has worked with more than 400 girls from urban rural slums of Delhi at various levels: from providing technical trainings to understanding women’s rights to engaging in constant counselling with parents of the girls to working on issues that they experience in their local communities, like lack of clean and safe toilets. Thus, we not only equip them with technical skills but also foster in them a spirit of activism helping them build confidence and become independent individuals.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The Programme Associate is responsible for:
  • Provide psycho-social counseling to the girls, interact with the guardians of the girls as and when necessary.  
  • Regular relationship building within the community, creating support groups within the community and supporting the girls in their community work.
  • Managing, planning and executing all programs to be undertaken within the space of the Tech Center.
  • Conducting classes at the Center on a regular basis. These classes are (but not limited to) on basic computers, photography, film-making and Internet. It is desirable that the candidate has working knowledge on all these. If not, it is his/her responsibility to get in touch with volunteers who would conduct these classes at the Center.
  • Training interns—alumni of the Tech Center—and orienting them to their roles and responsibilities so they can conduct classes after having excelled in them. 
  • Collaborating with other organizations to organize workshops and trainings on gender sensitization, feminism, sexuality and other socially relevant issues for adolescent girls.
  • Constant report writing on all the events, classes and their progress at the Center and communicating it to the rest of the team.
  • Ensuring meetings and networking with the current and previous batch of girls, communicating the events to them and extracting their participation wherever relevant.
  • Supporting the communication and fundraising staff in effective communication about the Tech Center Program and fundraising for the program.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Postgraduate in Psychology or Counselling Psychology and atleast 1 year experience in counseling.
  2. Minimum two years of work experience in working with adolescents girls from disadvantaged society, whether providing them counselling or engaging with them.
  3. Good understanding of gender and women’s issues.
  4. Good technical aptitude, interest in learning about new technologies.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills in Hindi; knowledge of English would be an asset, though not mandatory.
  6. Demonstrated public relations, management skills and experience of having worked with communities.
  7. Ability to multi-task, produce to daily deadlines, manage independent projects, plus work in a team.

Salary: Would be up to Rs. 30000/month, depending upon experience and skills
