DESCRIPTION

The Downtown Eastside Women's Centre is seeking a Housing Support and Outreach Worker that will work with women who live in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver to support them in establishing and maintaining appropriate safe housing. She will provide service referrals, advocacy, and accompaniment to women to connect them to appropriate housing as well as other agencies and support services within and outside of the DTES. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach: Increase the continuum of and access to housing, care and support services by connecting chronically homeless women to services through assisted referrals, accompaniment, and transportation where necessary.
Referral: Assist women through the referral process to internal and external services such as counseling, housing, legal aid, education, etc. to ensure a successful transfer of service. 
Resources: Develop and maintain positive relationships with housing providers, including SRO's to assist women in accessing and maintaining housing.
Advocacy: Provide information, referral, and advocacy to women in such areas as income assistance, housing, health services, drug and alcohol treatment and recovery, victim's assistance, counseling, and education. 
Education and Programming: Develop and facilitate educational workshops and programming related to housing issues. Develop and maintain links with other community agencies that work in the areas of housing/homelessness by attending meetings and community events.

QUALIFICATIONS
 Minimum five years related experience, at least 2 years in the Downtown Eastside
 Familiarity with support services, agencies and community resources in the Downtown Eastside
 Experience providing outreach, referral, and advocacy, 
 Knowledge of affects of mental health and addiction issues.
 Must work from a Feminist, Anti-Oppression perspective
 Ability to work within a chaotic environment and with a diverse community of women
 Ability to work independently and as a member of a staff collective

STATUS: Permanent, part-time
Sunday to Wednesday 26 hrs/week 
START: ASAP
