The Vancouver Pride Society (VPS) brings together members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-Spirited and Queer community, their friends, allies and supporters in celebration! We represent the unique culture and spirit of our community by producing quality, inclusive events such as the Pride Parade and Festival.


DESCRIPTION
The successful applicant(s) will engage seniors, community members and local queer and queer-friendly businesses to gather personal stories. The goal is to highlight the historic struggles and growing pains of a historically marginalized group, now in its 35th year of peaceful celebrations in Vancouver. This successful applicant(s) will also be responsible for developing an educational campaign to share these stories once they are collected and promoting them online and at events throughout the summer. This includes coordination with our corporate media partners to leverage free radio, television and print advertising to be developed in conjunction with our communications team. 

Remuneration is dependent on experience. This position is a seasonal full-time and the successful applicant(s) will be expected to have extremely flexible work schedules with the ability to work early mornings or late nights during events.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinate with the VPS Communications team and Partnerships to gather personal stories from the community
• Develop an educational and promotional campaign to feature the stories online and at events
• Collaborate or lead the design of collateral
• Coordinate with VPS Community Partners to build "community highlights" in the Official Pride Guide (60,000 circ)
• Coordinate with VPS media partners to promote and feature the stories in local media
• Manage all affairs in a manner consistent with the VPS Core Values, policies, and procedures

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE• Enrollment in a relevant post-secondary program with at least two years of related study or equivalent experience in the not-for-profit sector
• Applicants must have a mix of both paid and volunteer experience
• Two years experience working or volunteering for a related social-enterprise or not-for-profit organization in the LGBTQ community will be an asset
• Strong organizational and project-management experience will be an asset
• Priority will be given to under-represented or individuals with barriers to employment
