There is no single cause of family homelessness, and no single service that can help families overcome their barriers to independence. Family trauma impacts nearly every aspect of family functioning, so our services target to multiple life areas for adults and children. Doorways provides services that are comprehensive, family-centered and strength-based.
Position Summary:
The Children's Services Counselor (ChSC) is responsible for the implementation of the Children's Services Program within Doorways programs, specifically working with all families at the Family Home Shelter and in our HomeStart Supportive Housing Program. The ChSC directly provides or accesses services that address the physical, emotional, social, and educational needs of children in our programs. This position partners with Doorways staff to deliver coordinated and family-centered services to Doorways clients, and serves as a resource for child related concerns. This position is full-time and requires flexible working hours including evenings and weekends. The ChSC reports to the Family Home Program Director and is also part of the Doorways Children's Team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant social service/counseling field
- Minimum of 4 years relevant practice experience
- Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience in direct, clinical work with children of various age groups
- Experience in working with families affected by domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues required
- Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred
- Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being willing to "roll up the sleeves" and get tasks done
- Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
- Must possess basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and the internet (Microsoft Suite)
- Must provide own transportation to conduct home visits and attend collaborative meetings in the community.
Compensation:
Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits – health/dental/vision, life, LTD, 403 (b), etc. prorated based upon percentage of time worked.
