CBST Social Justice Coordinator: This full-time position has been created to amplify Congregation Beit Simchat Torah' s unique history, experience, and vision in radically changing the religious and Jewish landscape on the issues of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights and other issues of human rights and social justice. Candidate will work with the senior rabbi, and lay leaders and committees to enhance the congregation's effectiveness as a public force for social change. Candidate will also work with staff and volunteers to maintain and develop CBST's social justice web presence. They will write publicity and communication pieces, act a liaison for Rabbi Kleinbaum and CBST at various coalition meetings, and organize conferences and symposia. Some of the areas of focus might include: marriage equality; LGBTQ homeless youth; Israel/Palestine; LGBTQ eldercare and healthcare; Russian speaking Jewish LGBTQ outreach; issues of economic and racial justice; queer organizing in the Jewish community etc.
The successful candidate will possess:
1. At least 2 years experience in social justice work, community organizing or related fields
2. Advanced understanding of the Jewish and LGBTQ community
3. Outstanding organizational and communication (speaking and writing skills)
4. Excellent computer skills including sophisticated social media skills
5. Detail oriented and capable of working under strict deadlines
6. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
7. High level of motivation and performance standards
8. Ability to facilitate volunteer driven projects
9. Ability to work closely with a diverse group of staff and volunteers who have a variety of backgrounds
10. Passion for the mission of CBST
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
The Social Justice Coordinator will report to the Senior Rabbi.

WORK HOURS: Full Time (including some Jewish holidays, some shabbatot
and some weekends)
