Reports to: Executive Director
Broad Responsibilities
  • Oversee LeGaL's online presence, including management of website and creation of content, social media platforms and related information & technology initiatives (both public facing and for internal office productivity)
  • Assist in development and execution of LeGaL's marketing and communications strategy including primary responsibility for creative and design elements in online and print materials & other assets
  • Design & manage production of Lesbian/Gay Law Notes, organization's monthly publication, and related subscription database
  • Oversee development of LeGaL's media and membership communications strategy
  • Create, organize and execute various events and programming, including but not limited to networking, continuing legal education programs and fundraising events
  • Manage office administration
Key Tasks
  • Execute organization's social media strategy including maintenance and creation of content across a variety of social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and similar sites
  • Design & layout of organization's monthly legal publication in Adobe InDesign to enable production under deadline pressure and expansion of online and print circulation
  • Design of digital & print marketing/promotion assets, including but not limited to: event/program specific images for use across platforms, postcards, organizational brochures, poster boards and similar assets such as business cards, notecards and logos as needed
  • Perform regular updates and enhancements to organization's website (WordPress-based) and further develop organization's content strategy; maintain and update member log-in accounts and interface with membership for questions relating to same; maintain and update site's Job Blog
  • Assist with all aspects of organization's event planning and execution including managing outreach/promotion, registration, and venue logistics and communications
  • Advise and assist Executive Director in all aspects of technology vital to operation of organization and office (e.g., Dropbox, Google Apps for Nonprofits etc.) and troubleshoot issues as they arise
  • Assist with drafting, editing and strategic dissemination of press releases, membership communications, donor messages etc. in connection with organization's media/membership objectives
  • Perform key office administrative tasks including but not limited to: maintenance and updating of membership/subscriber databases; recordkeeping related to organizational activities (e.g., billing, contributions etc.); answering and responding to phone calls, letters, emails and generally managing communications with membership and general public including attorney referral service; data entry, correspondence, filing, labeling, mass-mailings and archiving as needed
Qualifications/Skills Required
  • Demonstrated track record of design and creative development across varied media/platforms
  • Strong proficiency with the following:
    • Adobe In Design (including for creation of publications/newsletters)
    • Microsoft Office, especially Excel & Word
    • WordPress
    • Macs
    • Social media sites
    • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Detail oriented, ability to perform well under deadlines and able to work independently and effectively in a small office environment
    • Willingness to work some evenings as needed to complete projects and support organizational programs and campaigns
    • Self-motivated, effective problem-solver and a team player willing to be flexible to achieve the aims of the organization's mission
    • Commitment to the promotion and advancement of issues affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender community
Qualifications/Skills Desired
  • Familiarity with the legal profession/concepts and the legal challenges facing members of the LGBTQ community
  • Familiarity with the following:
    • Bento (database for Macs)
    • Constant Contact (e-mail/event marketing service)
