DESCRIPTION

API Legal Outreach is the largest social justice legal organization serving the Asian and Pacific Islander communities of the Greater Bay Area.

Founded in 1975, our mission is to provide culturally competent and linguistically appropriate legal representation to the most marginalized segments of the API community including women, seniors, immigrants, and youth.

With offices in Oakland and San Francisco, our practice is focused in the areas of Domestic Violence/Family Law, Immigration and Immigrant Rights, Senior Law/Elder Abuse, Anti-Human Trafficking, Disability Rights, and other social justice Issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with planning the annual fundraising dinner and other events.
  1. Solicit donations for the auction at the annual dinner.
  2. Solicit companies to place advertisements in the annual report.
  3. Follow up with potential sponsors.
  4. Update donor database and provide general administrative support.
  5. May be called upon to conduct community outreach and draft public education materials.
  6. Work with media including press releases, newsletters, and public service announcements.
  7. Some evening meetings will be required.
  8. Some travel around the city (San Francisco) required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 16-20 hours per week during the summer and through mid-October 2013, preferably spread throughout week.
  1. Demonstrated ability to actively pursue fundraising goals.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and to serving disadvantaged Asian and Pacific Islander communities.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  4. Word processing, Microsoft Excel and Internet skills required.
  5. Ability to meet deadlines.
  6. Ability to work independently.
  7. Ability to work well in a team-oriented, multi-cultural work environment.
  8. Bilingual and/or bicultural skills preferred.
