DESCRIPTION

Creative Time, New York City's veteran and vanguard public arts presenter, seeks a part-time, temporary Project Coordinator to work on an upcoming participatory art project that will galvanize hundreds of New York-based feminists and activists around the most compelling issues of contemporary gender politics. Representing Creative Time, the Project Coordinator will liaise primarily with the project participants, as well as occasionally with the artist, and our project partner, the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum. This large-scale, public project will be presented in October 2013. Primary responsibilities will include managing outreach to a broad base of participants and facilitating their engagement with this project. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of feminist and activist timelines from the 1970s through today, contemporary issues in gender politics and social inequity, and socially-engaged art. The Project Coordinator must be able to interact well with wide-range of individuals from a variety of backgrounds, and is very organized and detail-oriented.

The Project Coordinator reports to Creative Time's Director of Exhibitions and Project Manager and will be working most closely with the CT programming team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as the primary point of contact for participants, as well as a liaison within organization, providing updates to internal departments on a regular basis.
  • Manage outreach, correspondence and engagement for new contacts and existing participants to build network of over 500 individuals.
  • Research potential partnership opportunities and tap into existing networks to build project participant base.
  • Organize social networking activities and attend similar events relevant to project.
  • Draft and edit text related to project.
  • Manage project timelines to ensure project is executed on time.
  • Be responsible for day of production and coordination of all participants and any post and pre events.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary gender politics and feminism
  • Contacts to or knowledge of New York City-based, key feminists
  • Experience working with artists and familiarity with contemporary art
  • Experience in community organizing, event production, and/or volunteer coordination
  • Highly organized and motivated creative problem solver
  • Strong database management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong writing skills
  • A good listener, and can instill a calming presence in a fast-paced environment
  • A personal investment in the history of Creative Time and the evolving role of public art is a big plus
  • BA or BFA preferred
Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience.
This is a temporary, part-time position, and will run from May, 2013 to November, 2013.
